Hillary Clinton Tanks in Key Swing States
by

Hillary Clinton has been busily targeting Iowa voters with her “Chillary” campaign, looking desperately to the people of middle America to recognize her right to the Iron Throne.

But as she’s been handing out beer koozies to Des Moines residents and inviting Cedar Rapids soccer moms to private dinners where she can pick their brains, her numbers have been tanking across the board – not in early states, but in the swing states she needs to top Republicans in the eventual 2016 contest. According to a new poll from Quinnipiac, Clinton is being creamed by the three top Republican candidates everywhere it counts.

Bernie Sanders also gets creamed, but I don’t think anyone expected more. What’s really interesting is that Hillary’s getting beaten by Rubio quite soundly, even though no one’s seen hide nor hair of Marco Rubio for weeks. Scott Walker is always in the news, and if you don’t recognize the Bush name by now, you’ve tuned out of the universe completely, but Marco Rubio is special only to the hearts of dedicated politicos and Media Matters opposition researchers with long-term Miami hotel room stays on their calendars.

It might be that, based on what voters have seen of Rubio, they’re not completely turned off. If you scroll down through the questions, there are a lot of side orders and split samples on trustworthiness, likeability and the same – interesting stuff since, as we’re pre-debates, that’s pretty much all voters are going on. And when it comes to trustworthiness and likeability, Hillary Clinton is losing by a mile.

The only Republican candidate who even comes close to these numbers is Trump, probably because, like Hillary, he’s a household name and either you love him or you hate him, or you have mixed feelings that fluctuate entirely on what you had for breakfast and whether he’s giving out cell phone numbers on national television. A Hillary/Trump matchup would be one for the record books – a contest based almost entirely on who Americans can stomach longer.

Oddly enough, the same could probably be be said for a Clinton/Bush matchup, but like Rubio, he’s been pretty quiet of late.
