Environmentalists Get Coal Roll Trolled
by

Truck owners are artificially increasing their diesel exhaust and adding coal stacks to their pickups to smoke out environmentalists. Victims of these black smoke barrages include cars with Obama-Biden stickers and low-emission vehicles like the Honda Fit and the Toyota Prius. Their drive-by debauchery drives home the political message: “Smoke on that, Obama administration.”

Truck owners call their dirty product “Prius Repellent.” A Facebook page dedicated to “Rollin’ Coal” has over 15,000 followers. The page features dozens of diesel-dedicated memes, as well as the following statement:

Im bout sick to death of you people who have nothing better to do than to fill up my inbox & make yer pathetic comments on this page, now Im gonna tell ya nicely, aint nobody holdin a gun to yer heads to like my posts, so take yer tree huggin non smoke lovin [selves] somewhere else, put that in yer stack & smoke it.

The EPA has announced that the practice is a violation of the Clean Air Act. EPA spokeswoman Liz Purchia is exhausted with this game:

It is a violation of the [Clean Air Act] to manufacture, sell, or install a part for a motor vehicle that bypasses, defeats, or renders inoperative any emission control device.

Dave Weigel argues that coal rolling fits into the “use-it-before-liberals-ban-it” category, along with stocking up on guns and ammo. EPA regulations, the “War on Coal,” failed clean energy subsidies, and political stalling on the Keystone pipeline are forcing up energy prices in a way that is paralyzing to progress.

We tend to take for granted the fact that we have power available to us at all hours. If energy prices continue to rise relative to per capita income, low-income families will be forced to choose between air conditioning and other necessities. In many developing countries, the power grid is unreliable and blackouts are frequent. For example, Ghana was rationing electricity to make sure its citizens could watch the World Cup. This is not the future we want for America.

The Coal Rollers do have a compelling point regarding the shortcomings of Obama’s environmental policy, but spontaneous human pollution is certainly not a sensible way of winning over the American people.
