Trump’s Lame Insult

Republicans stand on the precipice of an election that reverts Congress back to their control. Yet, Donald Trump used his perch this weekend to attack another Republican. Does “Ron DeSanctimonious” even make sense? “Low Energy” worked for Jeb Bush because the guy came across as in need of a line of cocaine or at least a Red Bull. “DeSanctimonious” sounds like “DeSantis.” But sanctimonious does not describe Ron DeSantis. It also looks worn to use the same gimmick that worked seven years ago. Leaving aside whether it makes sense in a descriptive way, the nickname makes no sense in a political way. Who attacks a Republican right before an election? Until this weekend, “a Democrat” stood as the only correct answer.
