Beau Biden announced today that he would not seek the Delaware Senate seat once held by his father, Vice President Joe Biden. And Sen. Ted Kaufman, who was appointed to keep the seat warm for Beau, also said he would not run. Republicans recruited a strong candidate in Rep. Mike Castle, who has already won statewide given that Delaware only has one Congressional district, and as it is, the race for the seat in a heavily Democratic state was considered competitive. But after today’s news, Cook Political Report has declared it “solid Republican.” Though there’s a long time between now and November, it’s entirely possible that by this time next year, Republicans will control Senate seats once held by Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
