Yesterday White House press secretary Jay Carney said the president regrets his 2006 vote against raising the national debt ceiling: “He realizes now that raising the debt ceiling is so important to the health of this economy and the global economy that it is not a vote that, even when you are protesting an administration’s policies, you can play around with.” Much like he presumably regrets his 2007 statement that presidents cannot unilaterally initiate war on foreign countries without going to Congress.
