Where’s the Collusion?

by

A few notes on Mr. Mueller and his indictment of Messrs. Manafort and Gates.

  1. There is not one mention of collusion by Mr. Trump with Russia. Not a syllable.
  2. There are many detailed descriptions of alleged tax fraud and money laundering by Manafort and Gates. These — if true — are extremely serious fraud. But they would normally be investigated by the FBI and the IRS. Since there is no collusion with the Russians, why is the Mueller entity deeply involved with Manafort at all?
  3. Why the frequent mention of Manafort’s  “lavish living”? What is the relevance of Manafort buying Oriental rugs and renovating houses except to whip up class hatred?
  4. Make no mistake. This indictment is powerful stuff. But it’s also mystifying. Why did Mr. Mueller even rate it?
