War of Words

Rudy, as Phil has pointed out, is turning up the heat. It is interesting that Romney spokesman uses the “nasty” dig at Rudy. Interesting for several reasons– it reminds us how different and calmer Rudy has seemed so far to many who recall his days as Mayor. And interesting because that was a liberal dig at Rudy — he was “nasty” for going after the NY Times, he was “nasty” for being so dismissive of Al Sharpton and liberal civil rights leaders, and he was “nasty” for going after the squeegee guys. But that’s I think why a lot of conservatives liked him so the charge may get a “huh?” reaction from the conservatives both are courting. Finally, it was interesting because the battles yesterday were on policy and records ( health care, taxes and crime). Rudy didn’t (yet) do what McCain has done– call Romney a phony. When that happens, where does the rhetoric go?
