Hillary Clinton has been out of the spotlight for a few weeks, hoping to avoid making any false moves lest Bernie Sanders finally overtake her in a primary state and, probably, to avoid taking press questions ahead of Michael Bay’s Benghazi movie’s premiere. But that doesn’t mean everything’s wine and roses in the Clinton camp.
As the FBI reaches further into Clinton’s time as Secretary of State, and whether she knowingly violated restrictions placed on sending classified information, sources are now saying the agency is concerned that Clinton may have forged some improper ties between the State Department and her namesake foundation.
Fox News reports, exclusively.
According to reporting from Fox News, the FBI probe of Hillary Clinton‘s email use has expanded and is now investigating whether the “intersection” of Clinton Foundation donations and State Department decisions during Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State violated corruption laws.
Three sources from the intelligence community confirmed the probe’s expansion to Fox’s Catherine Herridge. “The agents are investigating the possible intersection of Clinton Foundation donations, the dispensation of State Department contracts and whether regular processes were followed,” one source told Fox.
The report isn’t clear as to what “intersections” they’re investigating, but Clinton’s emails have turned up more than a few concerning ones. There have been “concidences” across Clinton’s email stream and in a number of State Department actions. Countries received preferential treatment if they paid millions to Clinton’s global foundation to eradicate poverty. Sidney Blumenthal, a Clinton acquaintance, received unprecedented access to State Department information while working on behalf of foreign interests. And the State Department’s resources were often diverted to the Clinton Foundation, which was given preferential treatment wherever possible.
These are fairly standard Clinton practices (after all, Hillary and her husband have been playing government to their advantage for decades), but the FBI, according to Fox News, has been encouraged not to ignore it any longer. Perhaps, the FBI is full of Bernie Sanders donors. Or maybe the “mistakes” are so egregious they just can’t be ignored.
It’s unlikely much will come of any probe into Clinton. But one can always hope, I suppose.
