Syed Farook Received $28,500 In Days Before San Bernardino Massacre

Since the President’s address Sunday night, where he stressed that Syed Farook and his wife were ultimately self-radicalized and unconnected from the larger ISIS realm, the pair’s separation from international terrorism has been one of the few comforting aspects of the case.

But last night, Fox News unearthed evidence that Farook and his wife may not have been as far removed from a larger scheme as previously thought. According to financial reports, Farook received a sudden, $28,500 payout just days before the San Bernardino massacre occurred, leaving 14 dead in the largest terrorist attack on American soil in a decade. Investigators are now looking into where that money came from, and whether Farook took out a loan to pay himself, or whether he got the thousands from a more nefarious source.

A $28,500 deposit was made to Syed Farook’s bank account from WebBank.com on or about Nov.18, some two weeks before he and his wife Tashfeen Malik carried out the San Bernardino massacre, a source close to the investigation told Fox News Monday.

Investigators are exploring whether the transaction was a loan taken out by Farook, who with his wife killed 14 and wounded 21 when they opened fire at a holiday lunch.  He earned $53,000 a year with the county as an environmental health inspector. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that a subsequent cash withdrawal was used to reimburse Enrique Marquez, the man who bought the two AR-15 semiautomatic rifles used in the San Bernardino shootings. Marquez, who could be charged, especially if it is determined that he illegally modified the weapons, is now reportedly answering investigators’ questions.

Once Farook got the money, he was quick to disperse it, paying about ten thousand to Marquez, ostensibly for his semi-automatic weapons, and then making a series of $5,000 withdrawls. He deposited three $5,000 checks into his mother’s account in the days before the shooting.

There’s not enough evidence, right now, to determine whether Farook got the money from overseas as part of some sort of Jihadi welfare program or whatnot — he could, it seems, have gotten the money directly from a quick service loan provider or a payday lender — but it does show that Farook and his wife’s shooting spree was premeditated. They didn’t just grab up a bunch of guns and shoot up a party because someone insulted Islam. They thought about it, prepared for it, and made sure family members were taken care of, all in the days before they went on their rampage.

That means, if anyone was still hanging on to the “workplace violence” explanation, they’re wrong.
