James, you are right on in how you perceive Obama’s appeal. In the past, a legislator might have sought to make a name for himself with a signature piece of legislation or development of an expertise in foreign policy. Obama’s appeal will be based on the idea of Obama as a religion-friendly icon of tolerance and goodwill. To get any more specific by being identified with any particular plan would be an error. The plan is, well, Obama-ismo.
I don’t have the sheer geeky power that John Tabin and David Hogberg do to dig into districts and call midterm races, but you don’t need that to see Obama breaking the tape alone in ’08.
