Throughout the government shutdown, the White House website has been a shining beacon of leadership, with its administrators doing their best to promote unity, cohesion, and cooperation during difficult times.

Observe the front-page, emblazoned with a new masthead declaring, in a paraphrase of the president’s official position on the subject, that Congress has failed to do its job:

In case visitors did not get the point, a warning will pop up on the screen, seemingly at random, reminding us that Congress failed to pass legislation and that information on the Whitehouse.gov page may not be up to date, among other things:

Also, the First Lady’s Twitter account, which is presumably free to update and maintain, has been the victim of Congress’s failure to pass legislation funding the government. Who could have guessed that such essential and free services as the FLOTUS Twitter hinged on the prudent and wise use of the power of the congressional purse strings?

So what are some of the essential remaining functions that the webmaster of Whitehouse.gov, who one imagines must be running on fumes now that his funding is presumably gone, sees fit to maintain?

Pictures! Essential pictures! Updated constantly over the course of the shutdown:

What an unforgettable artistic render of Denis McDonough’s backside, with the president framed between the sensuous crook of his arm in an obvious homage to that famous scene in The Graduate

Most delightful, though this shot of the president triumphantly crossing the street is doubtlessly causing some economic harm due to the inevitable road closures that ensued. What would we do without photos of our dear leader performing the same mundane tasks that so many must endure? Truly he is one of us!

Thankfully the staff at the White House are prioritizing the critical functions that they can perform in these lean times.
