A quick note about the NSA leak story as the big red machine that is AmSpec’s Washington Bureau (also its only bureau — Ed.) fires up for a busy news week. Yesterday morning The Guardian’s scooping savant Glenn Greenwald tweeted:
Clapper: leaks “literally gut-wrenching” – “huge, grave damage” – save some melodrama and rhetoric for coming stories. You’ll need it.
This was three hours before his paper revealed the source of the recent NSA leaks, Booz Allen Hamilton contractor Edward Snowden. Greenwald, like his source, is certainly capable of melodrama. However, there is much reason to think he has the capacity to make good on this threat.
Snowden gave The Guardian and the Washington Post access to reams of documents, some of which have been ruled out for publication, others partially redacted. The coming days may bring a number of other revelations. Watch Snowden’s interview with Greenwald:
