The Spectacle Blog

At the Washington Times today, we have this jaw-drop-inducing story:

“The politically charged gang led by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is more interested in helping felons vote than in helping the military to vote…. The Justice Department is so unenthusiastic about military voting that its website still lists the old requirement for a shorter 30-day military voting window, rather than the current law mandating 45 days. On the other hand, the Justice Department has no legislative mandate whatsoever to involve itself with helping felons to vote, but its website devotes a large section - 2,314 words - to advising felons how to regain voting privileges.”

What the editorial doesn’t describe is the content of those 2,314 words. It’s amazing. The time and effort required to compile all the information, and the obvious priority the Obamites made it, really show the highly politicized cast of mind of this administration. The section includes a state-by-state list of where felons can call or write in order to try to get their voting privileges back. Yet, I repeat, this should be NO business of the Justice Department. It has no statutory or constitutional role to play in helping felons regain voting privileges. But it DOES have a statutory requirement to help DoD ensure voting rights for the military, yet it can’t even be bothered, with an entire year to do it, to post even a simple link to the new law requiring that ballots be mailed to military personnel 45 days before an election.

Along with former DoJ official Eric Eversole, who first broke this story at the Washington Times, J. Christian Adams has been way out front on this military voting issue, with all sorts of interesting information that is damning of the Civil Rights Division at Justice and especially its new Obamite overseers. (His Election Law Center blog is a treasure trove of information about all sorts of voting-related legal issues.) And Adams also is the one who blew the whistle on DoJ for its weird compulsion to help armed robbers and drug pushers and other felons gain voting privileges. The good news is that U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas is fighting back on behalf of military voters.

Felons tend to vote for Democrats, like Barack Obama. The military tends to vote for Republicans. And Eric Holder’s Justice Department isn’t interested in justice, but in serving as a political arm of the White House and the Democratic Party. Hence the greater interest in helping felons vote than in ensuring that soldiers and sailors risking their lives for our country get a chance to exercise their rights of citizenship.

Why do felons vote Democrat?

Why do soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines vote Republican?

Eric Cartman| 7.29.10 @ 9:37AM

Ah, Grasshopper . . . within your wise question, you have found the answer.

SoCon| 7.30.10 @ 12:55AM

Why would Obama like the U.S. military? After all, they stand between him and his throne.

Anonymous| 7.30.10 @ 1:08AM

Speaking as a military person: Because of stuff like this.

Lamar Havard| 8.10.10 @ 11:12PM

Because soldiers have honor, sense of duty, common sense, honesty and pride in America in abundance.
Felons, always looking for something for nothing and out only for themselves, and more often than not, wanting a feeling of power over others, have none of the qualities that make soldiers who they are. Like seeks like.

Bob Miller| 7.29.10 @ 9:49AM

Holder sees ahead to the day when his anti-constitutional activities land him in jail.

John W.| 7.29.10 @ 9:54AM

I have a question for the lawyers among us. Say a soldier doesn't revieve his absentee ballot in time for his vote to count. Would he have standing to sue, in civil court, elected officials for misfeasence or a civil rights violation?

Teflon93| 7.29.10 @ 11:38AM

This happened in Florida in 2000, where the only known disenfranchised voter was a Navy lieutenant whose absentee ballot was thrown out by Gore.

I'm not aware of any subsequent legal proceeding.

Ken (Old Texican)| 7.29.10 @ 10:30AM

Quin,
You keep the home fires burning. Thanks again.

Ironically, I like this development. I'm dead certain that this story has been passed to every military service person by now.

Hmmmmm...now we know why Obama wants a "civilian force" equal to our military. In a show-down between the communists, (pardon the shorthand), and we OTHER citizens including serving men and women, I cannot help but wonder.....

Robert Pinkerton| 7.29.10 @ 12:38PM

In National-Socialist Germany, the SS was a Party organization rather than a State instrumentality up until close to the end of World War Two. As Party membership was forbidden to members of the State's armed forces, SS personnel were legally civilian.

Wayne| 7.29.10 @ 10:33AM

Felons are Democrats while soldiers are Republicans. Holder ONLY Represents the Progressive Democrats and OBAMA ONLY represents the Blue states. Its really simple.

Fast Johnny| 7.29.10 @ 10:37AM

Does anyone know if it can be done or if there are any precedents for bringing criminal charges against Holder for derelection of the duties he is charged with or for gross misuse of his offices powers? Do we have to wait for him to be removed from office? Is it possible for a new DOJ, say if the republicans win in 2012, to bring chartges against him and his conduct unbecoming of the head of the 'just this' dept? I mean heck, if I were him I would be very concerned about being charged with criminal charges in the future. If I were him, I would do whatever it takes to rectify things or maybe he figures that since he might ultimately end up in jail the DOJ should just do as much damage as possible to what they consider enemies of the state before they are brought down.

Ken (Old Texican)| 7.29.10 @ 11:07AM

Sorry Johnny,
nothing will come of that.

We have a forever tradition to simply let these scums slide off into disgrace....only

Teflon93| 7.29.10 @ 11:39AM

Ask John Mitchell, the AG for Nixon who went to jail over Watergate.

Oldefarte| 7.29.10 @ 11:35AM

Great article, Quin! IMO, this AG is simply corrupt and should be removed from office, but, with Democrats controlling congress, there's presently not A SNOBALLS CHANCE IN HADES of that occurring. I think the possible solution involves bringing impeachment proceedings against his boss. If the November elections produce an overturning of congress in Republicans' favor, I would love to know if anyone here can explain to me why an article of impeachment cannot be brought based upon this D of J issue, along with this administration's lawsuit of a state for legally passing a favorable law for its citizenry, and the NEVER LET A POLITICAL CRISIS GO TO WASTE moratorium on oil production in the Gulf recently enacted!!!!!

Why should the U.S. Military get any better treatment than the majority of U.S. Citizens? The Comrade Obama (PBUH) Regime caters to our country's enemies and his own special interest groups.

Evidently a correction has been made by the webmaster, because the 45-day requirement is now up there. If you go over there to see for yourself, be prepared for a massive wookie assault. What a disgrace. There's a picture of holder & the wookie, as he is said to be "noting her brilliant legal mind", and making her a job offer. This was evidently an important page to post immediately after the wookie visit last month, but they couldn't get UOCAVA information correct in a year. It leaves me speechless with disgust. The arrogance of these Chicago dirtbags is appalling.

Bob Miller| 7.29.10 @ 1:04PM

The current voter math does not favor Democrats, so, from their perspective, there has to be addition (felons, illegals, voters casting multiple ballots, forged ballots...) and subtraction (armed service people, people who can be frightened away from the polls by thugs...) to keep their dominance alive.

Nate| 7.29.10 @ 3:32PM

Yes, yes.

The DOJ is all in favor of black intimidation of white voters; it's all in favor of felons and felonies; it aspires to destroy America; Obama and Holder are racists and communists; they're motivated by an intense hatred for white people; Obama is an illegal alien; we know, we know, we know.

Ken (Old Texican)| 7.29.10 @ 5:17PM

Nate,
THANKS!
You finally have seen the light. Whatsamatter...your foodstamps are late?

Lamar Havard| 8.10.10 @ 11:22PM

Yo Nate, true Americans never tire of the TRUTH. Are YOU?

Oldefarte| 7.29.10 @ 4:21PM

This part [Obama is an illegal alien; we know, we know, we know] of what Nate just said is INCORRECT!!!!!!!

Schwepp Mimeo| 7.29.10 @ 9:53PM

I know....... facts are so confusing to you, but I won't try and convince you. Check the following web page and come to your own conclusion:
http://www.thepostemail.com/20.....-in-kenya/

I will, however, ask you this: Why has Slick Daddy Smooth spent upwards of $1.5 Million to keep his birth certificate and collegiate records from the public eye? As an aside, you still believe he's Black? His family tree (I have it here somewhere) indicates he's on'y 8% Black and the rest Arab. In America one has to be at least 15% Black to be "Black."

Lamar Havard| 8.10.10 @ 11:36PM

Oldefarte, if so, whip out the Birth 'Certificate', not the 'Certification of Live Birth'. Anybody can get those whether they were living there at the time or not.

Nate| 7.29.10 @ 5:38PM

I'm a proud Democrat and I can assure you that I favor felons over soldiers. Indeed, all my Democratic friends favor felons over soldiers.

We also favor felons over police officers, firefighters, and even our own mothers.

That's right. We seek to create a world in which felons are given every advantage, while policemen and sweet old ladies have to struggle for their very survival.

Are there any particular kinds of felons we prefer over others?

Good question!

Well, terrorists and illegal aliens are high on our list of favorites, of course. But bank robbers, rapists, and drug king-pins are also people we hold in high esteem. And as you all know, we love traitors -- any kind of traitors, particularly those that endanger our troops.

So ... What's the problem?

Lamar Havard| 8.10.10 @ 11:26PM

"So ... What's the problem?" -Nate

If you're serious, which I doubt 'cause we Repubs get jokes, YOU, like the present regime, are the problem.

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 7.29.10 @ 5:58PM

Nate: Well I don't know about everybody here, but I appreciate your honesty!! Finally, a "proud Democrat" who's willing to admit, what we've instinctively known all along, that your side is "for" everything that's bad, and "against" everything that's good. One question though, I understand you favor felons over Soldiers as a core believe, but do you favor felons over Soldiers who weekly post here at AS? Or do you favor felons "even more" over Soldiers who also post here at AS? Just wondering, where I stand on you list of favored or not favored people? I really hope I'm higher than bank robbers and rapist!!

Nate| 7.29.10 @ 6:32PM

Lull --

I don't care if they post here or not. I want to lives of soldiers, as well as policemen and firemen, to be more difficult -- especially if that increased difficulty makes life easier for felons.

It's all a part of our plan to destroy America and turn it over to Muslim Communists.

See, as a liberal I stand for everything that's bad. I'm wicked and I worship Satan, several times a day. You name me an American value, and I hate it.

If it were up to me, the 4th of July would be a day of mourning; baseball would be illegal; apple pie would be poison; and every American flag would be burned.

That's liberalism.

Not one single soldier serving in Afghanistan voted for Obama, and that's why I don't like them.

Not one.

OK. So he got 25% of the military vote. That's only -- what? -- a few hundred thousand soldiers, airmen, marines, and sailors.

What are they worth, anyway?

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 7.29.10 @ 6:52PM

Nate: Do you think you can E-mail me a photo of yourself? You see, I have to go out to the range to qualify (on my M4), and all they have out there are these boring silhouettes, and I don't really have anything against silhouettes (seriously, what have they ever done to me?). But if I had a picture of somebody who admittedly wants to turn America over to the Muslims, worships Satan, hates MLB, would poison apple pies, and burns the American Flag on the 4th of July, I think that I could move myself up from plain old Marksman to a Sharpshooter. So to answer your last question, "what are they worth anyway (Soldiers)? Well I don't really know, because I don't understand the way you think at all, but maybe we're worth just a simple picture of yourself, for us to shoot at when we're out at the range? Hmmm? I'm talking about Sharpshooter here!! Thanks for the consideration.

Nate| 7.29.10 @ 7:46PM

If you still need to qualify on that M4, I suggest you get your ass in gear and start training, soldier. There's no sense sitting around bitching about satanists when you've got so much training to do.

But while you're here, let me ask if it even occurred to you that I might be using irony.

The point, since it needs to be spelled out, and I'll have you know I made sharpshooter in basic, is that the willingness of some "conservatives" to assume every evil of Democrats with no evidence and against the dictates of all their God given reason is just pathetic. But that's enough of this, hero. Let's get that score up.

Lullabys, Legends and Lies| 7.29.10 @ 8:35PM

La dee da, "I made Sharpshooter in Basic"!! Well good for you Nate, but for the rest of us, who don't cut deals with the Devil down at the Crossroads, we have to work a little harder at shooting. Hence, me being a Marksman (for now)!! But thanks for "spelling it out" for me that you were just being ironic here tonight (I just couldn't, for the life of me, read between the lines), but because you admitted to that, I have to retract my praise of your honesty in my earlier post. But alas, I think you still proved my earlier point. You see, being ironic, is basically being dishonest (lying), and that's bad Nate, not good, which as I stated earlier, we instinctively knew all along about your side. You Democrats are "for" everything that's bad, and "against" anything that's good!! But thanks for wishing me luck on my range score, I need all the help I can get out there!!

SoCon| 7.30.10 @ 1:47AM

Stupid troll--you still can't explain Holder's devious actions. Shame on you.

I swear, you'd sell out your mom and dad for your god-forsaken Marxist ideology; you've already sold out your country. Traitor.

Curtis Rasmussen| 7.29.10 @ 7:19PM

Nate, your true and heartfelt admission elevates your dingleberry encrused hiney on this site.

Guardian| 7.29.10 @ 8:32PM

Oliver Stone once had a character in one of his movies say "We're thru the looking glass now. Nothing is as it seems."
Prophetic words to be sure.

Teflon93| 7.29.10 @ 8:42PM

Ahem. Why again do Democrats get so few military votes and so many criminal votes?

Liberals being such wonderful, patriotic Americans and all.

MSgt PJM| 7.30.10 @ 3:27AM

Nate - it's obvious you are a low self-esteem, gay, probably transgendered individual. That's why you hate everything. Everybody hates you!!! You have become the epitome of a loser!

SoCon| 7.30.10 @ 12:11PM

How'd you know Nate's gay?

Spillover| 7.30.10 @ 2:46PM

Wow - I love the back and forth in the above posts. Very witty and entertaining. I could spend the rest of the day reading your exchanges. Lullabys, Legends and Lies you rock.

Teflon93| 7.31.10 @ 9:29AM

Here's the supporting data on one of the most loyal Democrat constituencies---convicted felons:

"Academic work by Jeff Manza and Marcus Britton of Northwestern University and Christopher Uggen of the University of Minnesota has shown that a large majority of felons routinely vote Democratic. The two academics estimated that Bill Clinton pulled 86% of the felon vote in 1992 and 93% in 1996. Statistician John Lott's own work in Washington State found that felons were 37% more likely to be registered Democrats even when accounting for race, gender, education level, religious habits, employment, age, and county of residence."

http://online.wsj.com/article/.....29680.html

Charlie Rangel will no doubt receive a warm welcome from his fellow Democrats in Stony Lonesome.

Nobama| 7.31.10 @ 1:24PM

I'm sure serial killers vote democrat, too.

Teflon93| 7.31.10 @ 4:38PM

Liberals would make excuses for them if they did.

And unionize them.
