By a 45 to 54 vote, the Senate has just rejected an amendment offered by Sen. Mike Crapo that would have stripped any provisions in the bill that raise taxes on individuals earning less than $200,000 and families earning less than $250,000, in keeping with President Obama's campaign pledge.

Jim Antle mentioned the amendment, and the Republican strategy to force Democrats into casting tough votes in an  earlier post.

UPDATE: Here's the roll call. The Democrats voting for it: Sens. Evan Bayh, Maria Cantwell, Amy Klobuchar, Blanche Lincoln, and Ben Nelson/

The Democrats have not just slit their own throats...they've slit Obama's too.

I can't wait until Obama holds one of his "town halls" and some citizen stands up and asks him, "Mr. President, in regards to your middle class tax pledge, would you please explain to all of us why you're a lying SOB?"

Not even Obama's teleprompter will be able to save him after that question.

This is precisely the kind of meaningless political point scoring that passes for success in today's Republican party. Meanwhile, the government takes over 17% more of the nation's economy with hardly a whimper from the GOP.

The Republican Party Leadership must be pushed to take much more aggressive stances than they have been. You know the "surge" of calls that folks make to te congress folks ? At the same time what are the options: 2010 is going to be BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGG !!!! As much damage to the Democratic control must be done and in a rational organized fashion. Remember love and hate are both blind. Go forward into the 2010 wide eyes wide open. There is only ONE GOAL. Defeat the Democrats period.
