Climate Chains

Check out this trailer for a new flick coming out just in time for the September Senate "cap-and-trade" dance.

I've spoken at the invitation of Members at a half a dozen or more town hall meetings, and a 4th of July Tea Party in Philadelphia where cap-and-trade posters dominated, and I feel safe saying that the public is already tuned in to this outrage. From this short bit (featuring yours truly and several friends and colleagues I'm pleased to note), it seems that if as many people watch what's presented as hear Barbara Boxer et al's ,plaintive wails promoting their scheme, it won't be much of a fight though it certainly would further help clarify things for 2010 voters.

One of the more difficult aspects of this debate to explain to most people is that the stated goals of, for example, Kyoto 1 was to reduce carbon dioxide output to a level on par with 1998 levels.
This, by their own admission and calculus, would have had the anticipated effect of reducing the AGM (average global mean) temperature by .07 degrees C. That's right! That is 7 -1/100's of one degree! This is completely false, of course, for reasons even more complicated but the fact of note is this:

Science is incapable of accurately measuring the "Average Global Mean" temperature to an accuracy beyond .7 degrees C. That's right! The anticipated goal of Kyoto was to reduce the earth's average mean temperature by an amount that was 10 times smaller than our ability to measure it. (In actually...it would have zero effect-but..that's a different argument).

All of this for the bargain basement price that was estimated to be just over $16 Trillion!

This program was designed to run for 50 years. At the end of that 50 years, how were we to determine if our expensive efforts were effective? That's right! The international politicians- made rich and powerful beyond their wildest dreams through the allocation of this $16 Trillion- would be making that determination!

Gee! I wonder what they would decide?
