The Spectacle Blog

Danish enviro-skeptic Bjorn Lomborg had an excellent op-ed in the Wall Street Journal earlier this month.

He's right to say that much of corporate America is pushing for draconian carbon emission controls because visions of dollar signs are dancing in their heads. They are more than happy to eat U.S. tax dollars in order to supposedly save the planet.

I would go farther than that. I would say that they are recklessly indifferent to whether the new energy taxes they support --whether they be direct (carbon taxes) or hidden (cap and trade)-- will harm America.

At Capital Research Center we've been following the destructive lobbying of U.S. big businesses on this issue for some time.

Timothy P. Carney profiled the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) for us in the June 2008 edition of Organization Trends. Fred Lucas detailed the efforts by Al Gore to feed the global warming hysteria in the August 2008 Foundation Watch and also looked at the efforts by Goldman Sachs to cash in on that hysteria in the October Foundation Watch. In the August 2007 Foundation Watch Deborah Corey Barnes spotlighted Al Gore's environmental scaremongering business.

One of the worst offenders is Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE, parent company of NBC/MSNBC. Need I say More? These rich, white, greedy liberals are traitors. I believe much of big business is an indifferent whore, their only fealty is to the almighty dollar.

Discourse Cap and Soc.
Cap: Whoa, Capitalistics Corporate Big Business indifferent who...s, well, that says a lot. Profit, dollar generation, technology, RandD increases, Chemistry for a better life style,,,, this is the meat of our society. As we cast stones here, let us understand the very Network mechanism we use is a Capitalistic tool, created by and for the use of the USA folks. Soc, I truly am offended here. I like to see folks working for the good of thier families, trying to get a better set of life styles, education, a simple way of life that is supported by thier INDIVIDUAL efforts. Your Opine!
Soc: Well, we do get carried away at times. Our roots of Saul Lewinsky carry a venom of hatred for profits, seems it is in our Leftist blood. However, taking advantage of the OBNA Climate change legislation, to make a profit, to make a buck for the "Corporations" is just a cross we will have to bear. Now, if we can figure a tax on "Crosses" then the money will flow back to us. THATs the goal, control the Corporations, make the flow circular to the tax bins of the OBNA, lower the expectations, lower the actual standards of living, till the USA Electorate gets the message. We LOVE you, we just want you to understand that we NEED to IMPOSE OUR WILL. Cap, you can have a few dollars, just remember who is actually in charge, and you can live peacefully.

I didn't say Capitalism is an indifferent whore, I said 'much of big business' is an indifferent whore, (Sorry if my language has offended your tender sensibilities). Jeffrey Immelt has run GE into the ground and has betrayed his company's stockholders in the process. Immelt has turned GE/NBC into a mouthpiece for the Socialist monetary policies of Obama's administration and has been rewarded by an Obama bailout. GE stands to earn billions from Obama's disastrous Green policies in the upcoming years, and yes, I do believe many of our corporate leaders are traitors. I am a proud, principled Capitalist who is also a patriot--I would never sell out my people for the bottom-line.

1) There was first in the 1970's the globaloney cooling scam (see e.g. Newsweek April 28 1975 on the internet); the government-paid scientists (90% of them are rejects of private enterprise) recommended to fight the new ice age by sending our war planes to cover the polar ice with soot in order to increase solar heat and prevent crushing of New York skyscrapers by the new glaciers;
2) When that did not work we had the globaloney warming hoax in the 1990's, proclaimed by mainly the same government-paid scientists (Dr. Hansen of the NOAA, for example); to prevent the massive heating, fires, flooding of coastal cities, disappearance of Florida, California, and Caribbean islands, massive hurrucanes, global famine, and other catastrophic events we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies;
3) after 11 years of considerable cooling we are now faced with the climate change flimflam where whatever happens with our climate we should nationalize oil and gas and coal and electricity companies; and why not our banks, car companies while we are at it. To prevent this catastrophe the best vehicle presumably is international agreements enforced by the United Nations world government.
As for the influence of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas: on a normal day the atmoshere contains 10,000 ppm (parts per million) of water vapor and about 300 ppm of carbon dioxide. The government-paid scientists say that an increase of 100 ppm of CO2 over the next 50 years will result in a catastrophic warming. The thermal absorptivity of water vapor is 4 times larger than that of carbon dioxide; it follows that the CO2 increase will increase the overall thermal absorptivity of the mixture by about 1/4 of one percent. The production of methane from livestock and the swamps (or as the enviro-nazis call those "wetlands") vastly surpasses the influence of CO2.
There is the Global Warming Petition Project (see Internet) where 31,478 US independent scientists declared that there is no anthropogenic (human-caused) global warming; of these 9,029 are scientists with PhD degrees. Our enviro-nazis tried to sabotage this effort by submiiting phony names with phoney degrees - and then claimed the whole effort by the Petition scientists was a fraud. It took us 3 years and a lot of private money to verify the credentials of all the signatories and clean up the Petition of those saboteurs. See also Manhattan Declaration with more such signatories, plus a large number of scientific groups from other countries who state the same.
I am one of these signatories, MS and PhD degrees from UCLA, with majors in thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer.
I think to fight this communist attempt to secure a world government should not be fought on the narrow grounds of more taxes - that is the losing proposition; where about 50% of the population is on some kind of welfare we will always be outvoted. The battle should be fought and won on the firm scientific basis.
SCAM - HOAX - FLIMFLAM!!!
