Cocaine? Meth? Marijuana? Thorazine? Or is Janeane Garofalo just weird?

What is wrong with Garofalo in a new Fox video in which a reporter challenges her characterization of Tea Party protesters as racists?

Why does she go up to the camera lens and come close to pressing her nose against it?

To recap, the left-wing Garofalo previously said of the anti-Big Government protesters:

This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up. That is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. And there is no way around that. And you know, you can tell these type of right wingers anything and they'll believe it, except the truth. You tell them the truth and they become -- it's like showing Frankenstein's monster fire. They become confused, and angry and highly volatile. That guy, causing them feelings they don't know, because their limbic brain, we've discussed this before, the limbic brain inside a right-winger or Republican or conservative or your average white power activist, the limbic brain is much larger in their head space than in a reasonable person, and it's pushing against the frontal lobe. So their synapses are misfiring.

Garofalo seems to know a lot about psychopathology. I wonder why.

Two points:

How very convenient and easy not to have to engage folks when you can dismiss them as racist.
It lets you act morally superior on multiple levels.

Second, the "hypocrite" meme. "Where were you people for the last eight years?" is progressive "tu quoque", so shut up. Well, as bad as Bush was with his budget numbers, Lightworker is going to accumulate this year in debt what it took Bush seven years to do. How is that an improvement?

Lastly, I kept thinking that the video is a perfect vignette on the modern Progressive mindset: angry, smug, airs of superior intellect, defiant at being challenged, and everybody looks like they work at a large metro Starbucks. South Park, I see an easy episode for you.

She's looking a little long in the tooth. She's got a face like forty miles of bad road. My advice : back away from the camera next time.

She's a celebrity: it's entirely fair to criticize her decaying looks.

The last time I checked Bush didn't propose a $787 billion dollar porkulus bill. Or a budget with a trillion dollar deficit. And republicans called their congressmen in large numbers about TARP. Janeane is wrong on many counts.

Garofalo's already had one facelift; hmmmmm--I think she should she demand her money back.

Aaron| 5.12.09 @ 6:13PM

Interesting that she would stay in front of the camera and answer questions instead of walking away. I've always wondered what makes someone do that, especially when its clearly not in their best interest. Obviously she thinks she is right (er left), but I think she has some deep psyco issues. She gains a lot of comfort from the camera lens, you could have put Charles Manson with a butcher knife behind the camera and she would have talked to him for at least five minutes.

Smitty| 5.12.09 @ 7:36PM

Garofalo would have made a good Manson groupie.

Jack| 5.12.09 @ 7:45PM

Dave Barry on the 5/4 episode of 24: "The old Jack would have broken 78 percent of Janeane Garofolo's bones."

Ratings would go through the roof.

~Couldn't something be done to ensure that she wore that face on Halloween only ?

"Why does she go up to the camera lens and come close to pressing her nose against it."

To be funny and obnoxious. The better question would be why the reporter lied about...well, being a reporter ("I'm just a blogger"_.

MT| 5.14.09 @ 4:13AM

Get over it, rotter (apt name). She's a major ass and a liar. She deserves all the grief she gets.

daniel rotter| 5.14.09 @ 5:07AM

Get over what? And, again, why did the Fox News reporter lie about who he was ("I'm just a blogger") and not properly identify himself to Garafalo?

Larry-bob Roberts| 5.14.09 @ 1:24PM

Why's she acting that way? She's a comedian, she's being funny. What would you do if someone shoved a camera in your face without identifying themselves? The right wing never seems to do anything to put down or weed out the racists in their midst. Can you point to a single article on your site where you criticize right-wing racists? No, it's always that liberals are making false accusations. No, there aren't any racists here!

MT| 5.14.09 @ 5:20PM

Garafalo was called out on her lie that ALL the people at the tea parties were racists. Her blanket assertion was a lie. She's not funny; she's just obnoxious like you two morons.

MT| 5.14.09 @ 6:10PM

You're right--there aren't any racists here!
