In another setback for the labor legislation, a spokeswoman for the Virgina Democrat tells Greg Sargeant:

"He doesn't believe this is the appropriate time to introduce this legislation or to be debating it," Webb spokesperson Jessica Smith confirms to me. "He's always been a strong supporter of the right to collective bargaining, but as written, he would look towards improving the legislation in a way to make it more fair and equitable."

In another blow, Webb's also won't say whether he'll support bringing it to the floor for debate. "He's not publicly going to say at this point," his spokesperson said.

IS THE TIDE TURNING?

Dear Senator Webb,

Sending this out in the ether: come back! You don’t belong where you are. Republicans are greasy but so are Dems.

You’re a bonafide man and hero. You don’t owe anyone anything. You can be like Truman when he told the stalking big pockets that helped get him in the White House: “go ____ ________s!”

Your castaways in Appalachia aren’t going to be helped by a Leviathan for whom they mean nothing. Yeah, your books are salty, but you’ve got that behind you. I couldn’t help but smile at the Italian nurse.

Come back and be a statesman. You’re well educated. You put a black man in a war memorial on the mall.

Come back.
