I know  global warming a serious topic.  If Al Gore is right, we will burn to a crisp, life as we know it will end, and even the UN won't be able to save us.  Alas, it's hard for laymen to figure out all of the details.  Still, shouldn't global warming mean, well, the planet is warming?  But it hasn't over the last decade.  If the alarmists can't get today's temperature right, I keep wondering why we chould believe them when they purport to predict the temperature a century from now.  "Some day we'll get it right" seems to be the mantra of the alarmist lobby.

At least I'm not the only person with questions.  Christopher Booker has a wonderful year-ending column in The Daily Telegraph.  He wryly observes:

Looking back over my columns of the past 12 months, one of their major themes was neatly encapsulated by two recent items from The Daily Telegraph.

The first, on May 21, headed "Climate change threat to Alpine ski resorts" , reported that the entire Alpine "winter sports industry" could soon "grind to a halt for lack of snow". The second, on December 19, headed "The Alps have best snow conditions in a generation" , reported that this winter's Alpine snowfalls "look set to beat all records by New Year's Day".

Well, I guess that's why the operative phrase now is "climate change."  That way the social engineers can justify destroying the economy whatever happens to the temperature.  If temperatures rise, it shows the earth is warming.  If temperatures fall, it shows that global warming is causing the climate to change, presumably even if that means a new Ice Age.  In principle, there is no difference between droughts, floods, and blizzards--all justify turning control over to Al & Co.

Ain't the politics of science wonderful?

Doug,
The goodnews is the slowing of the AGW steamroller. There seems to be a fine line between AGW spin and the actual science. It wasn't too long ago that a day didn't go by without some new "study" blaming "such n such" on Global Warming. Thousands of scientists lined up before the cameras eager to advance the agenda. Anyone who got in the way was branded a "denier", and was instantly subjected to a credential and publication review process (how many PHDs does the deniers possess and how many times did they publish "peer reviewed" papers?). It was very difficult to question AGW when you are up against an army of psuedo intellectuals whose only accomplishments were to accumulate a mountain of PHDs. Any public debates usually evolved into a character assasination of the person questioning the science of AGW.

Probably to least reported aspect of the AGW debate is the use of statistics by the Alarmists. Everything from Dr Mann's famed Hockey Stick to NOAAs and NASAa representation of global surface temps can come down to the mis-use of statistical analysis. This shouldn't be surprising, but it is quite alarming. Many of the world's "hot spots" (areas that have "anomalously" warm temps) in reality have been quite cool (Siberia and the Artic). The "warmth" is nothing more than statistically adjusted raw data that can be manipulated anyway the statistician wishes. When these false numbers are put on color coded maps, the reader believes that Siberia is basking under tropical weather when in fact the opposite is true. Thankfully there are plently of professional and ametuer statisticians who are now shedding light on one of the greatest scientific con jobs in history.

The MMGW morph to MMCC by the MSM was quick and silent this past year, once they realized the GW meme wasn't going to pan out this winter. Now they can never be wrong. Too hot, MMCC. Too cold, MMCC. Too wet, MMCC. Too dry, MMCC. And so on.

This is why we shouldn't let "education experts" run the public schools.

Al Gore has really stepped in some deep global warming do do. He has guaranteed the world that the northern polar ice cap will be gone in five years. I couldn't believe it either till I saw the video.

Happy viewing. You might also want to watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" found in the video section.

Over two weeks of below 30 degree tempetures here in Oklahoma, snow and ice on the ground that refuses to melt because of single digit temps at night.... Old AL needs to pull his head of his steamer of a rear end and get a clue. This has been one of the coldest winters here in OK, not to mention the somewhat average summer we had this last year.
