Obama’s Greatest Failing
December 6, 2011 | 122 comments
Reflections on the upcoming second inauguration of President Obama.
The second inauguration of our sitting president will take place this coming weekend as this is being written. It is a time of great happiness for most of my neighbors and friends inside the beltway, indeed for most people in the country.
But I find myself in despair for our beloved country. It is quite likely that a large minority of the nation’s citizens agree with my pessimistic mood. The reasons for that despair are not difficult to discern.
Our beloved country is in terrible condition. The awful evidence is easily seen everywhere, for those willing to look. Our economic situation is unsustainable. Yes, the government of the richest country in the history of the world is, by all reliable measures, broke. Our national government cannot pay its bills and every day sinks deeper in debt because it is addicted to spending at extravagant rates. We are on our way to becoming the sad equivalent of Greece or another failed state.
There is plenty of blame to pass around for this condition and it should be shared by Democrats and Republicans, by George Bush and by Barack Obama, but the major part of the blame must be placed squarely on the shoulders of Mr. Obama and his administration. He has been in power for four years and he promised that he would deal with all of our major problems. He has not done so.
To put fine point on the matter, our president terrifies me, even though during most of my life I have been a liberal Democrat and voted for him in his first election.
If viewed honestly his first term has been an unmitigated disaster. The national debt is at an historic high. So is unemployment. Despite these sad, undeniable facts, he was elected to another term. That of course is typical of his history for much of his life. He is a master politician of the Chicago school and yet a disaster as a manager and practical leader.
His political skills helped him get selected as the editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Yet he proved a failure as the leader of that publication. There is no evidence that he authored one written comment or publication during his entire tenure.
His political skills also led to his election in 1996 to the Illinois State Senate where his work there was without any sign of major distinction. Often, he voted “present” rather than show the guts to fight for significant new laws.
Despite this lackluster record in Illinois, his political savvy led to his election to the United States Senate in 2004. His record in the Senate was equally without distinction in part because he spent most of his time there running for president. Yet, he was elected president in 2008 and, as I said, I voted for him. Like many millions of citizens, I managed to overcome my disgust at his association with his bigoted, racist, anti-Semitic pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
Mr. Obama now is seeking to take the lead in getting the country beyond the so-called fiscal cliff. In my view, had he been a proper leader, the country would have avoided the fiscal cliff months ago. His failures of leadership were the main causes of the horrors around the fiscal cliff.
Yet, again his political mastery has again produced a situation in which he is given credit for being a good leader and the press and the public are placing the lion’s share of the blame for our dire economic situation on Congress and the Republicans.
If history is to be repeated, which is likely, somehow the country will move beyond the fiscal cliff and Barack Obama will move forward with governing the country while basking in the warm glow of press and public applause.
And again if history prevails, he will be a disaster in his second term as he was in the first. Race relations will continue to get worse under his leadership; so will black crime. The nation’s status in foreign affairs will also continue to deteriorate. Israel will continue to be treated as the major problem in the Middle East rather than our most trusted and valuable ally in the region and the world. The master politician will continue to be a failure as a leader and manager — and all the while he will be applauded as a great chief executive by the slavish major media and by a majority of the public.
When the country finally collapses in a sea of debt and red ink, or even in a race war, neither he nor his Democratic Party will be blamed. It is likely that another Democrat will be elected to the White House in 2016.
Those in brief are the reasons why I am in despair and why we all should despair for our wonderful country as the inauguration day approaches.
I pray that my pessimistic forecasts do not prove to be true in the near future, but I fear that the forces of history do not allow for much hope in this regard — except in one way. If millions of good Americans agree with these awful forecasts then perhaps — just perhaps — there will be a groundswell of popular demand that drastic measures must be taken very soon to change the disastrous direction of the precious American nation.

Obama exists in a city of political weasels and that's why he is right at home.

Obama is where he is because the Republicans have run bad candidates in the last 7 elections. They have done a terrible job both as a ruling party and has an oppostion. G.W. Bush was a fool to get us into Iraq. McCain and Romney were fools for following him over the cliff on foreign policy. The Republicans can never come back until they return to a policy of peace, sound finace, Life, and prosperity. Let the Democrats be the party of death, war, and taxes.

While I agree with you Jack that the Republicans have run less than stellar candidates, obama is where he is because he has the fawning slobbering media to prop him up, lie for him and in essence, carry his water for him. And don't forget, the money. He raises more cash from the entities he says he hates and are to be reviled. It's not just because of the repubs. He has more now on welfare, food stamps and unemployment than ever before, keeping blacks on the "plantation" and white riddled with "white guilt". He's not even a "black man" but the majority believe he is.

No as usual you are incorrect! He is where he is because OF THE STUPIDITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN ELECTING HIM IN 2008 AND IN 2012. Forrect Gump said it correctly: STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES!!!!!!
vtwin| 1.14.13 @ 12:18PM
Oldefarte, you're right about the STUPIDITY of the AMERICAN PEOPLE. The source of the nation’s economic woes are a greedy investor class that outsources jobs and leaders too eager for war in the middle-east. So what do the Republicans do? They run a greedy investor and job outsourcer that wanted to go to war with Iran, Thank God the STUPIDITY was limited to 47%.
Doctor Right| 1.14.13 @ 12:42PM
The "greedy investor class" you speak of is also called "the middle class."
And if you have a 401-K, genius, you're part of it.

A 2002 study by the Mutual Fund Industry found only 50% of “US Households owned equities in some way shape or form” and “less than 20% owned individual stocks outside an employee sponsored plan.” so for most Americans investments if they are lucky enough to have any are limited to savings accounts and home equity.

ONLY 50%?!?!?
You do realize, Einstein, that's 150 million "covered" lives???
I guess the remaining 50% are the Obama Voters..?

Stupid Communist vtwin:
How come Nissan is producing cars in the USA? Could it be that states where it manufactures products are Right To Work states?
“In 1980 Nissan chose Tennessee, a state with almost no auto jobs. Today auto assembly plants and suppliers provide one-third of Tennessee's manufacturing jobs. Tennessee is the home for production of the Leaf, Nissan’s all-electric vehicle, and the batteries that power it. Recently Nissan announced that 85 percent of the cars and trucks it sells in the U.S. will be made in the U.S.— making it one of the largest ‘American’ auto companies."
Outsourcing is not a criminal endeavor. It simply means that manufacturers produce goods where costs are lower. That' management's job.
But you, as a good Communist, want all production of goods and services to be a function of government.
vtwin| 1.14.13 @ 1:31PM
Manufacturing jobs in Tennessee have declined from 501,836 in 2000 to 372,763 in 2010. That's a 25.7% decline in manufacturing in ten years despite the fact that Tennessee is “Right to Work” state.”
Doctor Right| 1.14.13 @ 3:26PM
How about a list of the corporations that have closed-up shop in Tennessee?
And being "Right to Work" does NOT necessarily imply a manufacturing union, Einstein.
Ever hear of the Teamsters? SEIU?
Here's a clue: They DON'T manufacture.
vtwin| 1.14.13 @ 1:41PM
In the United States today manufacturing jobs number about 11.5 million down from the peak of 19.5 million in 1979 with 80% of the decline occurring since 2000.
Doctor Right| 1.14.13 @ 4:18PM
1979 was over 30 years ago.
A lot has changed since then, Einstein.
In other words, a lot of the stuff that was manufactured in 1979 is now obsolete.
But I guess in your l'il Commie world, we should keep paying drones to manufacture 45-records and turntables because Obama voters need jobs, right?
We don't live in a manufacturing economy anymore; we live in a service economy, and that has produced more wealth than this nation has ever seen.
Please...learn something. ANYTHING.

Jobs December 2008: -750,000.
Today, it is steadily recovering.
Jobs December 2012: +155,000.
The unemployment rate is still way too high, but it's declining. In other words, things are getting better, albeit not as fast as everyone would like.

Vtwin, those #s do not adjust for population growth. The nation needs to make 300K+ jobs a month to improve the economy, currently we have been making 100K-150K a month which doesn't even break even with population growth.
I have a question, at what point in the future would you renounce your allegiance to Obama? How many more months of the economy stagnating until you would change your ideology. Would you be willing to pierce the veil of manipulation and deception and not jump on the "Blame Bush/Republicans" bandwagon and recognize; ok Obama's policies are bad for the country.
Lets say 2 years go by, and nothing improves in the economy. It's still just floundering, unemployment still high, only 150K jobs a month, taxes going up. Would that be your breaking point? Bear in mind all this time Obama will be blaming all the problems on republicans. What would you do?

He tells us republicans are responsible for huge debt.
He tells us we are irresponsible for electing irresponsible idiots.
He admits these deficits are ballooning and have gotten worse.
And then he tells us that we should spend more, not cut spending, raise the debt limits, his messiah has helped the nation by his deficit spending, and that these deficits do not matter. Insanely stupid.
Doctor Right| 1.14.13 @ 3:34PM
Constant denial of the truth - even of stated, on-the-record opinions - has been a characteristic of the Left for over 100 years.
For example...
Before WWII, the CPUSA (Communist Party of the USA) was publicly against Fascism...until Stalin signed a Non-Aggression Pact with Hitler; then they were for "Neutrality."
Then Hitler invaded the Soviet Union...and the CPUSA was Pro-War.
Kind of like how John Kerry was for the bill before he was against the bill...
And how Obama was against Bush's use of drones, even though he (Obama) has used 10X as many drones to kill 10X as many people.
To be a Leftist is to live in constant denial - of the truth, of one's self, of logic, and reason.
That's because Leftism is not really a political philosophy; it's the political expression of pure narcissism.
The leftist wants power and praise because power and praise please him. They are the means, and the end. NOTHING will deter them from this goal, no matter how many lies they have to tell, or people they have to kill.
Purp| 1.14.13 @ 3:46PM
Let me get this straight - because President Obama adopted Bush era tactics, he is now worse than Bush?
All that other blather is just nonsense about Hitler, and who knows why you are obsessed with the Communist Party.
If you want to know who's in denial - just look at your wages over the last 30 years, versus Corporations and the Wealthy ... You have lost buying power, but they have gained double or triple in that time.
And, yet you still believe their crap? Good Luck with that.
Luckily, America is taking her country back from those Greed mongers. You don't see it, and you call me blind?
Ever wonder what happened to the promise of High-Speed Internet? Why we pay so much for cable and internet in this country, while Koreans have 4x the speed of internet than we do?
No? Maybe you should start wondering, thinking and checking out your Corporate Masters and their Shills in the Republican Party.
Doctor Right| 1.14.13 @ 4:31PM
Listen up, idiot:
It was THE LEFT that opposed Bush's drone-strikes; and it was candidate Obama who ran AGAINST the idea of drone-strikes.
But President Obama has increased drone-strikes ten-fold.
I have NO problems killing lots and lots of Muslim terrorists, but you and your leftwing buddies and your idiot-boy President did.
So the question is: Do you like being lied to? Or were you really just a poseur, and killing is OK as long as a Leftwing President does the killing?
I'd hate to be you, now, because either choice reveals you for the moron you are.
Secondly, jackass...I don't get paid "a wage." I get a salary. I haven't been paid a wage since my last summer-job in college.
And I don't look at the successful people with envy; I look at them with awe, and aspire to succeed like they do.
As far as the cost of your cable bill is concerned...I guess you're blissfully unaware that in the USA, cable companies are granted (by Government, dumbass) local monopolies.
That means that you have ZERO choice as to your choice of your cable company, and since most people receive their internet via high-speed cable, you get screwed with the price!
I'm sorry to keep saying this, but you REALLY are ignorant.
The solution to your internet woes is a CAPITALIST solution, genius! Allow local competition, and your bill will decrease. But of course, that would run counter to your idiotic philosophies, so you'll continue to suffer.

Cutting spending is cutting your nose off to spite your face.
One person's spending is another's job. You cut spending, you cut jobs. Simple.

Occam's Tool| 1.15.13 @ 3:57PM
Taxing people to spend their money through Government rather than lettingthem spend it themselves is the craziest way of stimulating an economy I have ever heard of. We are in a jobs' crisis because the private sector can't properly plan the costs and profits of expanding hiring because of the erratic economic policy of this administration---on a micro level, I had to wait to see what my 1st paycheck would be this year with the nex tax regimen to see if and how I was going to be able to fund my SEP. The mere idea that Democrats are responsible spenders AND not responsible for this massive sucking sound called the deficit is hysterically funny!!!
Social Security: President Roosevelt. 1939. Democrat. $16 trillion in debt.
Medicare and Medicaid: President Johnson. Democrat. $84 trillion in debt.
Welfare:
President Woodrow Wilson, Democrat.
FDR, Democrat.
J F Kennedy, Democrat.
Lyndon Johnson, Democrat.
Cost: $1.2 trillion/year by 2014.
Food Stamps:
FDR, Democrat. 1939.
Lyndon Johnson, Democrat (expanded program in 1965)
Democrats.
48 million Americans get an average of $233 per month (it was 36 million when Obama took office).
Over $1 billion/year in taxpayer’s money spent on this program since Obama put on an ‘advertising campaign’ to promote ‘Free Food Stamps’.
Follow the money...or lack thereof...all the way back to the Democrat Party.

Social Security is not in debt, nor does it add to the debt. You don't know very much do you.
Welfare, Food Stamps (which Baby Bush quadrupled under him) - peanuts. Sh*t, the Iraq and Afghan Wars cost more than that for decades of welfare. Not even close. Estimates are 4 Trillion for both Wars - unpaid, on the debt.

Unfortunately, 65 million did, and that was more than Romney got.

Of course, anything is possible, but I seem to recall Drackman clashing with Clint in the pre-registration era when he began posting in early 2012. Likewise, while he and OT were sparring somewhat Friday, before that time, OT was an admirer.
Drackman is bad at manners, grammar and spelling, but displays a fair amount of knowledge about some of the subjects he writes about consistently, and if he was cutting and pasting, his spelling would be much better.
He does share some of Clint's combative personality, but if Clint is able to consistently post under a pretextual identity as different from his previous one (Jewish military brat son of B52 pilot and East German mother pawn shop owning MD who served as a Navy Doctor, owns many firearms Steve Carlton loving left handed fan of the Three Stooges) vs. (Main Line-Philly Ron Paul loving cutting and pasting Jew hating Iranian loving fan of the Three Stooges), I would be impressed.

I have white male liberal friends who didn't vote for Obama this time around. Perhaps this is an epiphany for them similar to what working class white males (the Archie Bunkers) experienced in the mid 60's as the so-called party of working class white males threw those guys under the bus. Now, it's the white male elites turn. Half of the Democrat party is now "diverse" and, to their credit, representing a party that now represents mostly non-whites and women. For all their talk of inclusiveness, what they really mean by that is that they include their groups and shut out others and project their own bigotry upon them.
First they came for working class white males. But who cares? You gotta break an egg to make an omelette.
Then they came for the remaining white males. So they stayed hom.
Then they starting coming for someone else and the whole mess collapsed.
My heart bleeds.

Mr. Trebach is right to be in despair. He cites Obama’s strong political skills but weak management skills as part of the problem. I agree, but that complaint could (and should) be raised against the entire United States Congress, and that condition has existed for decades. That’s why the hole we’re in is so deep.
I found this piece somewhat offensive, because Mr. Trebach admits to being a liberal Democrat, yet he still whinges about what liberal Democrat policies have done to the country. And he only whinges. He does not suggest an alternative course of action other than to hope others rise up and demand drastic action be taken. Doctor, heal thyself.
Albert Constantine Jr.| 1.14.13 @ 8:26AM
To keep the contest going, on “I Love Lucy”, after Mr. Ricardo would advise Mrs. Ricardo not to do a particular act because a bad consequence would result, Lucy would inevitably do it anyway, and the predicted chaos would ensue. In response, usually Mr. Ricardo would have to come in and rescue her from her bad decisions.
Professor Trebach is Lucy, and this article is the famous “Waaaaaahhhhhh!Waaaaahhhhh!” cry she would emit while being surrounded with the issue of her malfeasance.
Oldefarte| 1.14.13 @ 11:42AM
True true, but sadly IMHO there is no Mr. Ricardo in our life capable of rescuing us from this disaster[the rescue was possible in 2008 and again in 2012, but the American people failed to become the rescuer]. I only wish that there was such an individual/source possible!!!!!
Deborah D| 1.14.13 @ 8:39AM
Dr. Trebach -- I see you've stirred up a hornets' nest. But, you see, we've seen these things since 2007 when Sen. Obama decided to run for president. That's why you're being met with disdain here. It is and has been obvious to those of us on Spectator and many other conservative sites that his election would be the death of the country. His re-election only clinches it. People are buying guns and looking to their states for their future -- not this country. I suggest buying property you can plant crops on and keep some canned goods and bottled water on hand. You think the aftermath of Sandy was bad? Wait until the country collapses. If you don't have a gun, I suggest you invest in one.

Apparently, you were never a Boy Scout -- "be prepared" is their motto. Look, you can denigrate me all you want. I'm used to it from your type. I suggested that the author -- who said he was afraid -- should prepare himself. When we have a president who thinks he is king, a president who refuses to cut spending while our country continues to borrow unheard of amounts of money, the next four years will not be like any we've had before. If you think you'll be protected from the ramifications of Obama's delusional thinking, then I truly pity you. If a mob comes to my door, I will take down as many as I can. As an alumnus of The American University (BA, Political Science, 1987-1991) where Dr. Trebach teaches, I can assure you that the man deserves some credit for daring to stray from the liberal plantation that is "AU" to (gasp!) express doubt about the Emperor Obama. The American University is so nauseatingly liberal, and stuck in a strange Twilight Zone world where George McGovern/ Hubert Humphrey are considered the middle of American politics, that conservative students were regarded as exotic curiosities; gays and Palestinian sympathizers enjoyed more support than conservatives did. ...which is why I have never donated a cent to the school, in spite their clueless solicitations. Give Dr. Trebach a little credit for daring to suspect there might be another wordly beyond the American U lefty plantation.

I can sympathize with Mr. Trebach's despair, since I have been in that state since an evening in November of 2007, but he need look no further than a mirror to see the root of this despair. Obama, for all his failings, is more of a symptom than a cause. He didn't simply walk into the presidency. A majority of the electorate wanted him there. Whether that desire was rooted in ignorance or knowledge makes no difference, the pathology remains the same. Why blame the Prince of Fools than the fools who made him Prince? That a majority of the electorate would willingly choose such an individual for the highest elective office in the land is the real reason for despair.
PetarK| 1.14.13 @ 9:09AM
Despair . . . You cite all of Obama's failures going back to college and yet you voted for him? Now you claim you are despondent? Where were you in 2008? However, this does not give a pass to this president nor those of you who voted for him. Shame.

There's no need to kick Arnold S. Trebach, J.D., Ph.D., (the author of several books, and blah, blah blah) while he's down, at least he had the honesty to admit he's made a big error (a very BIG ERROR)!! The question to ask now is, what are you going to do now, from here on out, to help change the way we're going? What are you going to do differently at your beloved American University? Are you finally going to condemn your fellow professors, when they continue to push their Liberal/Socialist ways? If not, then why'd you write this? We didn't really need to hear that you're sorry (that kind of rings hollow)!! We need to hear that you've changed your ways, and you finally seen the light!! We need more voices of opposition, wherever they may come from, to stop our Government from continuing down the path we are on right now (which is the path to Hell itself)!! So if you are willing to step into the ring and start fighting this battle with us, then I say welcome to the fight!! If not, then thanks for wasting our time!! I for one believe that people can change for the better, and hopefully you can become a new ally in this never-ending battle between Freedom and Tyranny!!

When I first became aware of Obama in '07, I was immediately struck by the fact that he had no experience or accomplishments inside of any empirical, meritorious system; he was a pure academician/politician. That's a horrible shallowness, in terms of practical experience. Recognize: He had NO executive experience (much less any underlying foundational experiece) - not in business, but also not in government; he was never a Governor of a state, and never a Mayor of so much as a small town. But, people voted to make him the Chief Executive of the Federal Government, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces? The collective intelligence of this country is truly diminished - and how in hell does a J.D., Ph.D., etc., vote for an empty suit like Obama? Well, the world is full of educated fools. The disaster that is Obama will not be fully revealed until everything he wishes to manifest, manifests. America will be America in name only after the next four years - and I wouldn't be surprised to see a manufactured crisis materialize, to suspend Constitutional adherence, in order for Obama to suspend the next election....... If you think that sounds crazy, imagine describing an Obama-type person occupying the White House to someone 20 years ago: They'd tell you there'd be no way for it to happen...
Stormy| 1.14.13 @ 9:47AM
It is liberals such as Arnold that got us to this point. Many of the red flags he mentions were clearly available before the first election. Heck, even I saw them. so, how did a distinguished educator not see them? Arnold did not mention it, but who did he vote for in he recent election? Did he think that he was not pleased with Obama's first term, but was frightened by the fake campaign against Mitt Romney? No, Arnold, you are the people that got us where we are. You are the people that will be among the first to suffer.

Yes, it is sacreligious, but if you couldn't have seen through the man in 2007-2008 with the rest of us, why are you protesting so much now?

We've got a man raised in Chicago politics, and a Marxist to boot! The best of all worlds. Re-distribution, ummm, ummmph.

Authors concluding paragraph will prob prove to be prophetic . Our Founders knew all too well how fragile liberty and freedom are and took the steps to give us the tools to keep it . That's precisely why the new American socialist party is trying to remove those tools . Zero and party are moving fast in order to cement themselves before the next four years expire . Reason why they're moving on immigration - to give themselves a permanent majority . Those of us who are vigilant won't take it lying down .

Given that he had a Republican Party bent on destroying him, intransigent, racist and countering him at every turn for everything he did, he has done remarkably well.
And, don't bother to throw the "he had 2 years with complete Democratic control" canard - that's a bald-faced lie, and if you bother to check, you know why. (Hint: Filibuster and Blue Dog Democrats) .
He nowhere near had the majorities enjoyed by FDR or LBJ to get things done.
In Military, Diplomatic, Financial, Health, Social, and International Affairs, he has done an outstanding job of keeping us safe and away from complete economic disaster.
He has set us on a path to lower healthcare costs and better (altho not enough) financial soundness.

You will agree to let illegals stay here and get citizenship, you will agree to gay marriage, you will raise the debt limit and you will agree to gun control.
You can be mad all you want, but luckily not all your side is stupid like you. Or maybe they are. Either way, you are in the minority for the forseeable future while we take our country back from the radical fringers.
Hillary in 2016!
Michelle Obama in 2024... !

When you are done there look for democrat Pat Cadelle's recent speech to Texas conservatives. He will also explain it to you.

Pat Cadell is no Democrat - not since Jimmy Carter's days.
He's another Dick Morris type .. a turncoat. I ignore him.

He'll be very worried, no doubt...

As I have pointed out elsewhere here, he is wrong in his estimation of this President.

Hi Mr. Tyrrell, Arnold Trebach here. I would like to pitch an essay idea in which I, a lifelong liberal Democrat, regret voting for Obama. I will point out all the terrible things Obama has done and may do in the future. I don't have too many ideas of my own, so I will read Spectator.org going back to before he was elected the first time. I know it will be a lonely endeavor, catching up to what everyone knew in the first place. Readers of the essay will write such in their comments. They need to realize that I am first a liberal, and after that an American. I believe that human nature is basically good and that cultural, political, and economic inputs are the only thing that keep people from realizing their full potential. I was only voting for Obama because I thought he could decide what was good for mankind and make it happen. After all, that's progress!
Controse| 1.14.13 @ 12:10PM
Blind spots materialize at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected places. Here we have a professor emeritus of public affairs ably lamenting our peril and Obama's, or whoever he is,modus operandi without calling for a leader to step forward to aggressively counter the national demise rapidly approaching. A ground swell just won't cut it.
Tom Anderson| 1.14.13 @ 12:27PM
I am trying to understand something Mr. Trebach.
You cite a number of issues with our "President". About his activities with the Harvard Law Review. His lackluster performances and lack of any real work in law or in writings. His voting "present". His lack of experience.
All these factors were well known well BEFORE his election. Sarah Palin had much more experience and proven results than he did, and she was laughed off by the media as being ignorant and inexperienced, which is what Obama has proven he in fact is.
And now you are worried because a guy who had no credentials and no business running for this office can't do the job? Why should that be a shock? He is delivering on exactly what he promised, transforming the country. At least he is honest at that as he transforms it into a toilet.
So that brings us to the big question. If you are such a deep thinker, why did you vote for this guy? You either were in a cave when all the negative things about this guy was public knowledge, or you voted for him because he was black. Which one?
So sorry you are suddenly scared. You're like the guy that shoved me off the Titanic, then you get scared when they run out of lifeboats. You're now in the drink with the rest of us. Stop complaining.
Bandido| 1.14.13 @ 12:33PM
Obama is not a master politician. Most anyone who is articulate and affable can rise on the Left, especially a minority candidate. The press will create the aura and the mythology around the individual. He will not have to say or do much more than utter leftist banalities and platitudes. Has Obama ever done more than that?
Citizen Jerry| 1.14.13 @ 12:36PM
It appears that Mr. Trebach is trying to assuage his conscience by bethumping us with words. He may call the president a "disaster," but I live in Realityville. To me, he's a tyrant.
My advice to Mr. Trebach would be -- You voted for him. Now you have him. So stop whining.

Your own words, "Given that he had a Republican Party bent on destroying him, intransigent, racist and countering him at every turn for everything he did...."
Purp| 1.14.13 @ 6:38PM
Not so.
You really don't know what I'm talking about, do you? Beyond your comprehension, is that it?
Let's start here:
Who was the "Teflon President" - do you know?
Now, care to explain the contradiction, Chuckles?
PCPSmokerII| 1.14.13 @ 8:55PM
'Teflon President" would be acceptable is SOMEONE, anyone, dared to attack him. They don't. There are no attacks on Obama that do not start with "he's a nice guy and a great family man."
Obama is more an arrogant schmuck who is going up against retarded children named Palin, Boehner, McCarthy, NRO, Weekly Standard, Romney, and others.

Dr. Trebach,
How could anyone with the smarts to earn a Ph.D. and access to 20 min. of internet time in 2008 admit to voting for BHO? JackCashill proved that communist and terrorist Bill Ayers wrote his lauded book, proving he is a liar. Drs. Sam Vaknin and Ali Sina pointed out his narcissistic personality disorder and others his genetic connection to ardent pornographer and Communist Franklin Davis.

One cannot criticize Obozo without being called a racist. It's classic Alinsky and Orwell as practiced by the left.
All opposition must be silenced, ridiculed and marginalized. The whores in the media have done their jobs well.
What the left and Washington refuse to see however, is that the pressure cooker is about to explode, as they happily turn up the heat in their quest to destroy America.
And if I played as many rounds of golf as Obozo did these past 4 years, not only would I admit to being lazy, but my handicapp would be single digits.
Ralph Novy| 1.14.13 @ 2:29PM
"The national debt is at an historic high. So is unemployment."
Yes.
And those two things are causally linked! When employment goes up, the debt goes down. There are more payroll taxes and there is more economic activity that generates revenues. That's just Econ 101 (post 1932).
Certainly the Obama administration has not done enough to address the unemployment issue -- but why is that? Who have been obstructing efforts to "stimulate" the economy and create jobs? Yes, that's right -- the very Republicans Mr. Trebach wants to let off the hook. Their partisan-motivated and largely disingenuous calls for "austerity" measures are why we are in this situation.
There's quite a bit of blame to go around. But it is foolish, at best, to suggest that is mostly Obama's fault.
Pecos Pete| 1.14.13 @ 3:08PM

King O's EPA, OSHA, IRS, HHS, DoE, in fact, all of the Administrative Departments within King O's regime.

Technically true but misleading because this is also true for every year of every administration since at least 1980.

Obama was president of HLR, not its editor. Editors actually have to do work; Mr. Obama did none (he barely even showed up-the joke that year was, "Where's Barack"? "Working from home."). The Law Review over which he presided is the least cited in the Review's history. He himself contributed nothing and questioned why he should leave a paper trail that could some day come back to haunt him.
I have no sympathy for anyone who voted for Obama even the first time. You had to dig and certainly look beyond the media's circus surrounding the messianic creature they concocted, but the character of the man was plain to all who bothered to do that.
If, for instance, you had looked, you might not have so easily overcome your "disgust" with Jeremiah Wright. You might have learned about the Marxist, racist, separatist, anti-Semitic Black Liberation Theology Trinity United Church and Rev. Wright embrace (Obama talked about his search for a church that "spoke to me"-his choice of Trinity United is highly illustrative). That the good reverend was not only his pastor of 20 years, but his "spiritual guide" and his political mentor, a man with whom he consulted prior to making any political move. You might have found utterly ridiculous the claim that since he wasn't in church on those Sundays Wright made his most egregious pronouncements from the pulpit, Obama knew nothing about his anti-Americanism, his racism, his anti-Semitism.
But you didn't and you voted for him. Live with it.
Purp| 1.14.13 @ 6:45PM
Your Baby Bush cost the lives of 2800 Americans on 9/11 ... then again 1800 from Katrina... and over 6000 Americans from Iraq and Afghanistan, not to mention crashing the economy in 2008 under his watch.
Now, you think Obama is not a good President. In view of Bush, Obama is a miracle worker.
I know it hurts, but your boys don't know how to govern, and America knows now, and they won't be winning any elections anytime soon.
Enjoy Democratic Rule for the next 24 years. I know I will.

"His political skills helped him get selected as the editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. Yet he proved a failure as the leader of that publication. There is no evidence that he authored one written comment or publication during his entire tenure."
For Obama, that he was able once more to get credit for doing something while not doing anything is a sign of success, not failure. His entire life he's made a career out of pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible and those afflicted with "white guilt". He did this to his own grandmother and bragged about it in his book. We're fools if we expect him to do any differently by us lowly citizens clinging to our guns and religion, two items he's intent on wresting from us.
