The Senate health care "reform" bill that now has 60 votes and could pass by the end of this week is 2,074 pages long. And President Obama claims to know what's in it. Sort of.
Urging hold-out Democrats to back the bill, on Dec. 15, the president said, "You talk to every health care economist out there and they will tell you that whatever ideas are -- whatever ideas exist in terms of bending the cost curve and starting to reduce costs for families, businesses, and government, those elements are in this bill."
The ideas are in there. Whatever they are.
Moments later, Obama urged senators to not sweat the details and just pass the bill.
"The final bill won't include everything that everybody wants. No bill can do that. But what I told my former colleagues today is that we simply cannot allow differences over individual elements of this plan to prevent us from meeting our responsibility to solve a longstanding and urgent problem for the American people. They are waiting for us to act."
Actually, the American people are screaming for Washington not to act. Only one national poll taken this month shows a majority of Americans in support of the Democrats' health care reform plan, according to Pollster.com. Most show strong opposition.
The latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, conducted last week, shows 32 percent of Americans in favor, 47 percent opposed. The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll, reported the day after President Obama claimed that the American people were looking to Washington for action, showed that 53 percent disapprove of Obama's handling of health care, 44 percent approve. More than half, 51 percent, opposed the Democrats' health care reform plans, and 44 percent supported them.
Obama's damn-the-details, just-pass-anything approach has lost the support of the nation. Americans would rather Washington slow down and do health care reform right than pass some half-baked scheme.
But Obama doesn't care. He insists on passing something -- anything -- before the 2010 elections, when he might lose the votes he needs to pass a plan that grants Washington enormous new powers and lays the groundwork for a single-payer system.
Republicans ought to be pointing out the dangers in rushing legislation into law. They can start with the story of last week's spending bill. As Fox News has reported, the bill was supposed to allow Amtrak passengers to carry guns on the trains, as long as the guns were locked in a box. But that section was incorrectly worded. The law, which Obama signed last week, requires gun-carrying passengers to be locked in a box for the duration of their trip. (Yes, you read that right.)
There are 2,074 pages in Harry Reid's health care bill. What surprises await? There's no telling. The Democrats want to pass it within five days. Could you finish a 2,074 page bill, written by lawyers, in five days, and understand it? Can your senator?
This bill will entirely remake a sixth of the U.S. economy. It will, as Obama said last week, "touch the lives of nearly every American." The consequences of getting it wrong are tremendous. And yet the president says, don't worry about the details, just pass it. Comforting, isn't it?

Outrageous! But Obama and his I-don't-give-a-damn what-the-American-people-think crowd of minions, just might find that somewhere, somewhere way back there in the mists of the American psyche, begins to stir the call of the 1770's. Tyranny is still tyranny whever you find it.

Yeah it's going to look real good in the history book regarding the "won's" leadership. He will be known as the one who started the second revlolution and tried to blame it on We the People for not agreeing with his evil intents.

We need a How To. I've read too many --oh S**T columns this morning.
Let's fight!!
How can the states fight it's un-Constitutionality?
We have a governor's race next year.
How about a candidate fighting Obama-Care?
How about some states banding together and showing the way in real reform by offering interstate policies? Let the Obama-ites including Holder come after them----it will open up REAL debate. Gee---why doesn't Obama want me to be able to buy insurance from Texas? That's where I buy my car insurance from and after all, he said HIS healthcare insurance is just like car insurance.
How about states ramming thru tort reform to drive the trial lawyers out of the states?
Solutions folks. Solutions.

Americans should unite and refuse to pay our taxes in April - we need a massive united movement for this very purpose - The government passed the health care bill EVEN THOUGHT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT WANT IT - and many states are exempt from the taxes! THIS IS TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
Until our government listens to the people, the people should cut off the $$$cocaine this government inhales while giving the American people the bird.
WHEN THE GOVERNMENT FEARS THE PEOPLE, WE HAVE FREEDOM.
Obama and his minions MUST BE STOPPED and then THROWN OUT! They are acting like a dictatorship and the American people have to stop them.

I often wonder how my longtime friend who voted for Obama because he was the best person, and we would never allow national health care because we couldn't afford it, feels now. We rarely see each other anymore, and when we do it is too painful to talk about current events.
I have more understanding than ever about ties that were severed during our first revolution. I can imagine not having much to do with those that voted (often vehemently stating my fears were foolish), and in fact do have less to do with those who supported this nonsense.
Does anyone else sense this past election causing a severing of personal relationships?
Son Of Sam| 12.21.09 @ 12:40PM
Becky, you absolutely SHOULD talk to this friend of yours. Tell him he doesn't have to admit he's wrong or that we're right, just that he has to DO something to repair the damage. He doesn't have to wait for the elections: how about go to some meetings of any of the hundreds of patriot groups sprouting up all over the country. Listen to "we the people", and start understanding that it is we who are on the right side here.; that we're not "racists" or "radicals" or "militias", just plain ordinary Americans who have woken up to the nonsense and lunacy and just plain evil being forced down our throats by the traitors and tax cheats in the White House and Congress.
Then, have the fool rip up his Democrat voting card, and send it back to party headquarters. Have him rip up all his newspaper and magazine subscriptions to ALL the propaganda rags supporting thecriminals back in Washington. Show him how to vote and work to elect men and women who want to serve the public, not screw us. And have him remember that real leaders dont try to build themselves up by tearing other people down.

Obama was no less a media creation than Paris Hilton and is as much a narcissistic empty suit as Paris Hilton is an empty head. Why anyone is surprised by the cult of personality created by the media in our celebrity obsessed culture is beyond me. His campaign speeches remind me of every Miss Universe contestant ever interviewed. Um...I'd like to see world peace....stop world hunger.....can't we all just get along etc....
Obama is about Obama and liberals live in bizarro world where the perception is the reality and thats all Obama cares about is perception and perfectly explains his willingness to dump his campaign rhetoric. God help us because megalomaniacs never go down easy.

Hi Becky.
Only One so far. Heh, please remember I'm a Texican (my family has been here since the republic of Texas days).
The national sales manager from one of our major suppliers had sorta gotten in the habit of crashing at our home during his trips to Houston. (heh, my wife is a brilliant "home cooking" chef among her many talents....including being my equal Partner at work).
Shortly after our April 15th tea-party here in Houston, the guy came to sell...and visit in our home. I asked him what he thought about what was going on in DC. His answer: "I could care less."
I blinked and I'm sure my jaw dropped. I repeated the question in different terms that maybe he could understand better.
He leaned up to the front of MY sofa with MY scotch in his hand, and quietly yelled: "Let me be clear! I Don't care!"
He had slipped his shoes off earlier, so after thinking about it a moment, I got up, picked up his shoes and handed them to him...and quite softly said: "Mr. Jones...you are no longer welcome in my home."
I walked him to the door and quietly closed it behind him.
See, guys, I can accept someone being a stupid leftie. Hopefully they may mature some day. What I cannot stand...are Americans...who don't care.
I will buy from the idiot if necessary, but I called his boss and told him I never wanted to see the man's face again. I have not.

Not only is it amazing that these liberal congressional-terrorists are ramming through this socialistic garbage; but that these Democrats from moderate and conservative states are Lewinskifying Reid, Pilosi, etc with their obedient votes. These domestic terrorists obviously are more concerning about Harry's and Nancy's wishes than they are the American people of their individual states that they supposedly represent. They know that they can BS their constituents with any manipulative BS as to their voting reasoning; and historically/traditionally, they are right [since Americans have voted these terrorists into office previously]. The time is now to begin the process of defeating/eliminating all of them [and to begin electing congressmen who are truly dedicated to voting in line with their constituents' wishes]!!!!!!

My wife is studying for the citizenship test and interview this week and I took a look at the civics questions included in her booklet. It would be amazing if a few of our elected leaders actually read and understood what our Constitution designates for their powers. Not a whole lot when you look at it. I only wish a majority of reps and senators would review the document once in a while to understand why there is so much resistance to their machinations. Curiously, they list Joe Biden including his middle name but it is mysteriously missing when they list Obama. Why would that be the case? Hussein should be an acceptable name these days, right?
martha| 12.21.09 @ 7:53PM
Interesting that you mention the Kenyan's middle name. I have a former friend who's main political argument against Sarah Palin was that she did'nt read. I said with 5 kids and a husband a state to run she probably read as much as she had time for.
Her other eloquent line was calling Sarah "The Killer from Wasilla"
Regarding the Kenyan's middle name Her brilliant snark was that the American people would never vote for a Black man who's middle name was Hussein-as I said a former friend.

"Second poll shows Obama approval rating at 47 percent"
If White House officials were peeved at Gallup Poll for its reporting on President Barack Obama’s recent slide to 47 percent approval — and they were — imagine the reaction at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to the survey released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling, which also reported the president’s approval rating at 47 percent, but added this analysis:
“Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama’s declining support is that just 50 percent of voters now say they prefer having him as president to George W. Bush, with 44 percent saying they’d rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term, that’s somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country’s difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore.

The bush card will be played for years to come because he is on a short list of worst presidents ever. fedupinflorida| 12.21.09 @ 6:49PM
You're right, the Republican party currently has no filibuster power in the Senate. The House either. Actually Republicans haven't had much power in Congress since 2007, when the Democrats took majority power.
That explains why public debt has increased from 8,675,085,083,537.48 on January 01, 2007 to 12,097,983,161,366.65 as of today.
It's so refreshing to see that you're honest enough to blame it on the Democrats.
btw, read my posts again. Does it sound like I'm hurt that the republican party has no power currently? LOL, whatever floats your boat. Unlike you, I happen to believe that the polls do reflect the pulse of what people in the country are feeling.

Last week's NBC/Wall Street Journal survey asked whether voters thought that "government should do more to solve problems and help meet the needs of people" or if "government is doing too many things better left to businesses and individuals." This is a familiar polling question to gauge the credibility of government, albeit a bit loaded toward liberal social rhetoric.
Some 47% nonetheless replied that they thought government is doing too much, while only 44% believed that it should do more. That's a striking change since February, when the views were reversed, with 51% saying the government should do more, and only 40% saying do less.
Even more startling, in the latest survey only 18% said they trusted government to do the right thing "most of the time," down from a high of 36% in July 2004 and 27% in August 2005. Some 32% said they trusted government to do the right thing "almost never," up from single digits in earlier surveys when it was a volunteered response.

Hey Cryteabaggers, here's a Bush card that I bet you won't play. LOL
[Obama's Aunt Zeituni] Onyango reserved special words of kindness for former President George W. Bush for a directive he put in place days before the election requiring federal agents to get high-level approval to arrest fugitive immigrants, which directly affected Onyango. The directive made clear that U.S. officials were worried about possible election implications of arresting Onyango.
She said she wants to thank Bush in person for the order, which gave her a measure of peace but was lifted weeks later.
"I loved President Bush," Onyango said while moving toward a framed photo of Bush and his wife standing with Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House on inauguration day. "He is my No. 1 man in my life because he helped me when I really needed that help."

Becky,
This election of Obama has had a huge impact on my relationship with my family. They are not educated past high school and they stick mainly to local news and Reality TV. They still think I am crazy when I say Obama is driving us to socialism or worse.
Mostly I am tired of trying to educate those who don't want to know the truth. I can't even get my mom to understand that carbon dioxide and black smog pollution are two different things.
Finally I am sick of the Liberals dancing and cheering a health care reform victory as if only conservatives will have to pay the price for this poorly planned bill. Because Liberals tend to be the biggest whiners on this planet, I can't wait to see the tears when their costs go up as early as January.
JO| 12.22.09 @ 2:33AM
Healthe care costs in America compared to GDP are the highest on the Planet, yet child mortality is slightly higher than Poland's which spends less than half the amount on health care that America does.
There is something radically wrong with these numbers and it appears many countries can provide universal health care for a lot less than the US.
Somehow it appears that those who have much to gain are having a little giggle at the way that average Americans are at each others throats of this issue - which is exactly what they planned.
Obama is a socialist, Obama is a fascist, we win you lose. In fact Obama is desparetly trying to do something, anything and by doing so has only added to the winter of America's discontent, or is it disconnect?
While Americans argue amongst themselves the plebs are getting their pockets picked - which is precisely the name of the political game.
To me Obama appears to be a very articulate (which makes him dangerous) Inspector Clouseau bumbling along way out of his depth. If he achieves anything it at all it will not be through his "skills", rather, serendipity.
They say if a committe had to design a horse it would end up with a camel - unfortunately this health care bill does not even have the functionality of a bloody camel.
Americans in general, whether red or blue, lose; figure for yourselves who the winners are.

Behold, The Boy President's new theme song:
(courtesy of "Shakespeare's Sister" (1992))
walking through the rooms in my head
i came across your image
you looked at me with that sweet smile and said
something they won't let me repeat
we hurt the ones we love the most
it's a subtle form of compliment
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
mark the spot you hate with an x
then shoot your bow and arrow
do your worst get it all off your chest
i'll hold my breath and swallow
we hurt the ones we love the most
it's a subtle form of discipline
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
i don't care if you act like a queen
i don't care if you take it out on me
i've got 9 lives and i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
[out of the alley, i spoke came victoria]
[queen victoria sitting shocked upon the rocking horse]
[of a wave said to the laureate]
[this minx a course as sharp as any lynx]
[and blacker deeper than the drinks]
[as any hottentot without remorse]
[for the lynx said she and the drinks you can see]
[are hot as any hottentot and not the goods for me]
[hot as any hottentot and not the goods for me]
i don't care if you talk about me
i don't care if you write it out in stone
whenever i fall i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care
i don't care if you act like a queen
i don't care if you take it out on me
i've got 9 lives and i land on my feet
i don't care, i just don't care

Obama's lack of caring is not restricted to just healthcare.
He seems to have no identity with America or its people, be they unborn, just-born, healthy, infirm, elderly--regardless of color of skin or sex.

It always amazes me when people talk about "how much Obama cares for the plight of the American people".
That's a crock of bull!
The man's half-brother who lives in squalor in Nairobi, said in a 2008 article: "I live here on less than a dollar a month."
His aunt, who is mentioned up-thread, lives in Section-8 housing in Boston. Obama threw her under the bus after it was learned that she was in the country illegally.
"President Barack Obama's aunt buried her face in her hands and sobbed as she described her anguish that she no longer has contact with him and his family after the revelation she had been living illegally for years in the United States in public housing.
...Onyango, who is disabled and learning to walk again after being paralyzed for more than three months because of an autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome, said she previously had no trouble visiting Obama when he was state senator in Illinois or after he became U.S. senator."
I understand that O can't become involved in her immigration situation, but even if he's paying her rent, and I don't know if he is, the fact that the aunt of the POTUS is living in federally funded public housing is an embarrassment, and speaks volumes about how much Obama "cares for the oppressed".

Just like the other communist leaders, Lenin and Stalin, Obama could care less about the American people. It is time for the American taxpayer to refuse funding the communist inspired healthcare bill until their voices are heard by the arrogant demoRATS infesting Washington DC.
