The most widely attended annual event in Washington might be called a genuine act of free choice.
Last week, hundreds of thousands of Americans made their way to Washington, D.C., thronging its stately streets and avenues with messages of love and hope. They came from diverse backgrounds and represented a variety of age groups, but the majority of them were young people, filled with adoration for the Anointed One. They came together to pledge themselves to do his bidding despite the best efforts of his adversaries.
Were these joyous people in D.C. for Martin Luther King Day? Had they gathered to offer homage to newly inaugurated President Barack Obama? Actually, they converged on our nation’s capital to celebrate life and fight for its protection in this country. And although you’d never know it from watching the network news or reading the major newspapers, the participants in the 36th annual March for Life compose the most attended annual event in Washington.
As is usual for those whose message is one that the media finds unpleasant, pro-lifers are ignored or arrogantly dismissed as kooks or worse; religious freaks. Yet, to those gathered to defend life, it is the Obama worshippers and MLK celebrants whose priorities are skewed: there can be no hope or equality in a nation that allows its future to be sacrificed on the altar of convenience.
And so they gather each year to make their voices heard, ending their march at the steps of the Supreme Court building, over whose portal are the words: “Equal Justice Under Law.” At this site, where the right to abortion was arrogantly and illegally injected by unelected judges into our U.S. Constitution, they appeal to their fellow Americans for equal justice for their future countrymen, and ask God for his forgiveness.
Among those speaking to the crowd was Dr. Alveda King, a woman who does not celebrate her uncle Martin’s birthday with empty platitudes or sugary testimonials. Instead, she speaks bluntly and truthfully:
Ms. King rightly laments that, in the midst of celebrating Barack Obama’s inauguration, no one seems to care about the 13 million black babies who have been lost since Roe v. Wade. Or that although blacks constitute only 12 percent of our population, they account for 35 percent of all abortions performed in America. She weeps when she realizes that 1,400 black children are eliminated every day, one of whom might also have grown up to become a president of the United States.
We too should weep when our president shows the ultimate respect for the lives of terrorists at Gitmo by conferring on them the protection of our precious constitutional rights, but none for the innocents for whom that document was specifically written; namely “ourselves and our posterity.” And no one was surprised when he signed an Executive Order that rescinded the Mexico City policy, which restricted foreign aid money to NGOs that perform abortions.
But it is not only the Executive and Legislative branches of our government that are feeding our national culture of death. Which brings us to the recent pronouncement by the Speaker of the House of the United States of America: that federally financed birth control an abortion will help the economy. Were this idiocy not so representative of the quality of our elected leadership, it would be astounding. As it is, even the White House has distanced itself from this lunacy, which is not even worthy of further comment.
And just over the bleak horizon, our government may soon give us the Freedom of Choice Act, a truly repulsively named piece of legislation aimed at taking the individual states out of the process of limiting abortion. It aims to do legally what the courts did illegally: make abortion-on-demand the law of the land. All of this — God, help us — in the name of so-called women’s reproductive health.
Barack Obama has followed into office the most pro-life president since the dark stain of legalized abortion was visited on this land. And if some of his campaign rhetoric is to be believed, he is nearly George W. Bush’s polar opposite on this issue; famously saying that if his daughters “make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”
When all who fight for life mourn the millions of lives lost in the past 36 years, let us also grieve for those born in that span who have been brainwashed into thinking that abortion is somehow beneficial to this country or to American motherhood. Let us pray that the day never comes when President Obama needs to explain to his two little girls that their precious lives were the result of punishment.

The debacle of this president’s administration is both a cause and a symptom of the decline of American values. Unless Congress impeaches him, that decline will go on unchecked. An eminent jurist surveys the damage and assesses the chances for the recovery of our culture.
It won’t take long for conservatives to scratch this presidential wannabe off their 2008 scorecard.
The American Christmas, like the songs that celebrate it, makes room for everybody under the rainbow. Is that why so many people seem to be hostile to it?

I don't know if I will ever understand how Americans managed to elect a president who will not stand against infanticide.

Black women represent 13 % of the female population yet they have 37% of all abortions. This is a form of genocide which thier glorious leader is marching them towards ( is his aim 50% of all black children to be aborted. He's an idiot)

Remember, King O once said that he wanted his daughters to abort his prospective grandchildren, rather than be "punished with a baby" ... so what else did you expect him to do?
As for Nancy Pelosi, someone ought to sit her down and explain to her where Taxpayers come from. The only way her Ponzi Scheme has even a prayer of continuing is if she stops pulling pieces out of the bottom and stacking them on the top.
Somewhere Tom Hayden is chuckling as his Port Huron Statement from 1952 (yes, that is the right date) is finally fulfilled.

Appleby: The Port Huron Statement was drafted and issued in 1962 -- during the Kennedy years. It was the first major expression of SDS intentions.

I think it is high time to organize a gigantic, nationwide Conservative demonstration so that the whole world realizes the sound part of America, which represents the vast majority of the population, is not available to let itself be fooled.

Jason, the reason we elected a president who supports infantacide is because so many of the voters are ignorant about the major issues - abortion being one of the primary ones.
I cannot count the number of times when arguing the issue with full-blown voting adults and bring up the question of "partial birth abortion" that I get a blank stare.
It even happened with two sisters-in-law who are conservative. When I visited this past Thanksgiving, and mentioned that Obama would overturn the law outlawing the PBA procedure they didn't have a clue. When I explained the procedure it was hard for them to believe it. I had to explain the history of the debate for the last 15 years : how Congress passed a law to ban the procedure several times, how Clinton vetoed it, and that the ban only recently took effect when again Congress passed it, and Bush signed it into law. Both of my conservative brothers (their husbands) were sitting there. They knew about the issue and how gruesome PBA was, but imagine that they never communicated that to their wives of many years. My sisters-in-law didn't require any more proof that the procedure happens.
Then consider those who support abortion as a general principle - usually liberal morons like a couple of full-blown voting adults who are my neighbors. When arguing the abortion issue and I asked about partial birth abortion, again blank stares. Again I explained. They insisted that the procedure would NEVER be allowed in America and did not believe me. I had to go to their bible (The New York Times) and give them articles from years past that discussed the PBA debate. I even gave them one article about the doctor who lied in his sworn testimony before Congress several years ago and said the procedure was extremely rare - and then he came out and confessed to having lied to Congress.
Well, of course they believed their bible's stories and conceded that it does happen. That day they were against the PBA procedure. However, they are liberal minds, so it took only two days and they then supported PBA because, after all, Bill Clinton vetoed the ban and they had to stick with the liberals.
So there you have it. Ignorant conservative voters who will make the correct decision when they learn about it, and the liberal moron voters it will not affect no matter how gruesome the procedure is. Is it any wonder Obama received a good chunk of the churchgoing and Evangelical vote?
Alan Brooks| 1.28.09 @ 7:23PM
yes, its a gruesome procedure, but do you want more welfare babies? you cant expect irresponsible people to behave responsibly no matter how much contraception is available.

Not only was the huge "Pro Life" in DC ignored by the press but this past Saturday, 1-24-2009
nearly 50, ooo pro life mostly young people, students and entire families marched for life in downtown San Fransisco. Yes you heard right....San Fransisco.
Now this gathering was as big as any pro gay march after passage of Prop 8 in California yet I would guess that it was never even mentioned as a footnote by any main stream news outlet accross the country.
It barely got any coverage in San Fransisco and none in LA..
The point being is this: The press can deny reality all they want but the fact remains that unlike 100 years ago in the US or present day Iran the news will get out by word of mouth, cell phones, e-mails, you-tube, talk radio, cable TV,
hand signals etc.
It will be much harder to surpress liberty in today's information age....but we must always be cautious and redouble our efforts to get the word out ourselves.

I think it's hilarious that you are bemoaning abortion, when two clicks down, you don't even want government to subsidize day care or education for spawn that's already in play. You have to Pay to Play. According to your haphazard philosophy, these mothers who go in for a little procedure should be getting some type of recognition for helping us tax payers out. Where is the support? Where are the accolades?
Contreceptives not abortion| 1.29.09 @ 2:22PM
Contreceptives is not a bad language, it is a reality the rest of the world uses contreceptevies.
Those using contreceptives do not need to have abortions. Obama must set up family planning CLINICS for the poulations.
Those wasting time protesting should protest to have Family Planing CLINICS set up in all neighbouthoods.
Family Planning CLINICS also dectect SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES also, thus creating a healthy community of people.
PLEASE, try it, all the developed countries around the world have it, Americans deserve better health care.
It's not a crime it is common sense. If Americans refuse to admit their errors their country will become a third world country, you have to develope, you are a backward nation. Wars is not the answer to civilization, it's basic education.
Shelley| 1.30.09 @ 6:43PM
Contraceptives: please abort yourself.
Rose Mary| 2.2.09 @ 1:29PM
Contra Ceptives are De Ceptive... Everywhere contraceptives have been used... abortion increases in two ways... One way is that most contraceptives are abortifacients.. they abort children in their early stages of development by preventing them from implanting in their mothers' wombs. The other way is that it develops a mindset that if they fail, then abortion is needed for a back up. Natural Family Planning is 99% effective and is taught woman to woman and even to blind women. However, if a woman is promiscuous then it won't work very well. Detecting STDs is not the answer PREVENTING STDs can only be done by not having sex before marriage and only having sex with your spouse.
Most STDs are VIRAL and that means they are for a LIFETIME... one that will be miserable and cut short.
