Proportional Israel
Against Hamas, it has no other choice.
WASHINGTON — Does anyone know the name of the National Public Radio interviewer who was so disdainful of Israel’s ambassador to the United States on the morning of December 31? I missed his name. I would like to give him an award for sarcasm, rudeness, and, well, controlled rage. Perhaps he would accept my shoes.
The interviewer is perhaps a graduate of one of our country’s esteemed anger management centers. Yet I wonder what made him so angry. Very theatrically he cut the Israeli ambassador off in the midst of the ambassador’s variations on the theme of peace and goodwill and that sort of thing.
I wonder what made the NPR catastrophist so angry. I can understand the professional journalist suffering some mild pique. The ambassador obviously was not giving him the answers he sought. Yet this fellow was downright contemptuous. To employ a word currently in fashion, I would say his response to the Israeli ambassador was disproportional.
It is dreadful that Gaza, one of the most densely populated places on earth, is under heavy aerial bombardment from Israel. Yet Hamas, the governing entity in Gaza, has been lobbing shrapnel-filled missiles into Israel on a regular basis for months. Two weeks ago Hamas arbitrarily broke its six-month ceasefire with Israel, and the danger to Israeli life and property has gotten worse. How many missiles is Israel to suffer before it is warranted to defend its territory and its people?
Now that word “disproportional” is being raised among foreign policy elites. Israeli air strikes since Saturday have killed several hundred Palestinians and injured several thousand. So we are hearing that the Israeli actions are “disproportional.” I can almost imagine a learned seminar being convened here in Washington wherein the assembled gogues excogitate precisely how many incoming Hamas missiles will warrant one air strike or more. And how will these advocates of proportionality factor in the targets of the Israeli air strikes? It is tragic that Palestinian civilians are dying, but Hamas locates its military installations and administrative facilities in civilian areas precisely to dissuade Israel from attacking Hamas as it insouciantly bombards Israel, its soldiers, and more frequently its civilians.
A couple of decades back I wrote that the Palestinian terrorists — and Hamas is a fully accredited terrorist group — were the only fighters I knew of that target civilians rather than soldiers. That was pretty much true back then. Yet as terrorist organizations have proliferated the targeting of solely civilians has become widespread throughout the world. Now apparently the civilized world has become accustomed to this outrage. Yet it is to Israel’s credit that it remains outraged by a terrorist group that would target noncombatants for strategic purposes.
I have no idea how many Hamas strikes against civilians warrant how many Israeli acts of retribution. Frankly, such calculations strike me as beside the point. The real question is how many Israeli strikes are needed to close down Hamas? That is what is necessary. The Israelis have at their border a violent, unprincipled enemy that has vowed to destroy Israel. Hamas not only vows to destroy Israel, it bombards Israel and expects the world to object when Israel counterattacks. Now that strikes me as irrational. Hamas should accept the consequences of its assaults on Israel. Hamas might even renew the ceasefire that it broke. For that matter Hamas might end its war against Israel. I doubt the Israelis would object.

By doing what Hamas is doing they incur responsibility for any civilian casualties.
I also do not believe the civilians are entirely innocent. They elected Hamas and allow Hamas to site rockets in their neighborhoods. I am not saying they should be targeted or that collateral damage should not be minimized - just that it is not unreasonable that they are paying a price.

Great article, especially the 'disproportional' thing. In order to defeat an enemy, don't you have to respond disproportionally? How else can you destroy them or force them to capitulate?
The whole proportionality issue proves that diplomacy has become the bailiwick of nitwits.

Proportionality is idiot speak of people who think that any response to aggression can only be just if “proportionate”. That makes it “fair” in their minds. Under that guidance we would still be fighting WWII, Korea, Vietnam etc. Fairness rules best left in things like children’s games where millions of lives aren’t on the line. Warfare is not at game. Those who try to apply such rules aren’t interested in a solution or resolving a conflict once and for all. Sooner or later Israel is going to have to find a “pair” or suffer a very disproportionate result as a consequence.

- The Arabs seized zero towns

It seems to me RET hit all the salient points that need to be made. In sum: One, Hamas lacks the means to inflict greater numbers on Israel, not the malice, as even a Liberal may know. So disproportionality being waved as a significant factor in this subject is merely a result of its military weakness not its moral restraint based on its desire to limit civilian casualties. Another phrase for the tactic of Hamas is the now common phrase of “asymmetrical warfare” which is for what was once called guerilla warfare. Regardless to the whole pseudo legal and moral argument about proportionality, it is absurd to suggest that Israel must defend itself using Hamas’s feeble weapons that are indiscriminate yet well reported. Two, Hamas purposely places its launching sites within neighborhoods to create moral qualms for the Israelis when they must choose targets. They therefore must bear the guilt for the unintended civilian deaths that occur when they do this. Three, there could be zero deaths if the Hamas leadership were willing to accept peace and not wage war.

The word I keep thinking of is 'respose'. To put an adjective or what ever weight is still an adjective to the noun 'respose'. If the terrorists keep their weapons in the West Bank then there is no need to 'respond'. It is also disingenuous to ask others to define what is appropiate when those offering opinions are not the target of the offense. If the Arabs are curious about Isreals ability to defend itself and define its own level of 'respose' maybe they should read their own history.
This country, USA, has lost every 'police action' because we were so concerned with a proportional response. If the enemy hides in a mosque, school yard, hospital then that is where they should die.

Powerful secondary blasts were seen from the air after Amrin's house was hit, confirming IDF intelligence according to which the building was used to store large quantities of explosives and ammunition. It was not immediately clear if Amrin was killed in the strike.
On Thursday afternoon the IAF hit and killed Nizar Rayyan, making him the most senior Hamas terrorist to be killed by Israel in several years. Several others were killed in the blast as well.

Mr. Tyrrell's words as usual are thought-provoking in unexpected directions. For example:
1) Why do we call the West Bank and the Gaza Strip "occupied territories"? West Bank was occupied illegally by Jordan, and Gaza was occupied illegaly by Egypt - so when Israel took them over they became really "liberated territories". Right?
2) When I was 12 years old my best friends in school were Jewish. My mother wondered about it, saying "Don't you know that the Jews killed Jesus"? When I answered that not only Jesus but also St. Mary and St. Joseph were also Jews, she was flabbergasted - she, a devout Catholic, never thought about it'. After she digested this information she became a defender of Israel.
3) But, she insisted -"Why do I have so many Jewish friends?" I answered because they were most intelligent - they read many books and played good chess game. Then she wondered how come those Jewish friends of mine were more intelligent than most. After a few minutes of reflection I answered - "Mother, the Jews were being killed and persecuted for 20 centuries and only the most intelligent survived - that's why. You know - survival of the fittest?" She then started to cogitate about that information.

Est. 1.4 m people, about 140 square miles, 10,000 per sq. mile. Wash., D.C. -- 9,500 per sq. mile. Singapore, 17,751 (2003); NYC, 26,500; Monaco, 41,608 (2003); Macau, 71, 466. Cairo and Manilla, even more. Gaza Strip "density" a Palestinian propaganda point too often echoed in MSN. W. Times partially corrected this only yesterday.

It's the first time I have been able to come out and speak openly about the many lies that has been told about the Holocaust. My Granmother who died three years ago was in Germany during the war, she often laughed at the lies and stories made up to get money from the Germans.
I often tell my friends about it, most of them wonder why they say it is illegal to speak about the Holocaust, I just say to them my granmother was in the camps and it all about money. A proportional response is rational. For every citizen of Israel that is killed, they should have a policy of killing 100. If that does not stop the attacks in a week, then raise that to 1000 to 1. There are plenty of powers of ten after that.

And the other thing that our neighbors and friends from Israel should do in the next week or so is to take out Iran's nukes in a two day severe air assault that will leave them without any nuke capacity for at least 10 years or so.
That would protect the entire west and specifically Israel and the US from Iranian agression regardless of if Obama spends four years or eight years in the White House.

Hamas are evil garbage, they must be eliminated. Then, if the rest of the 'Palestinians' really want peace they can give up their dream of destroying Israel, if not, they will never have peace.
Israel must destroy as much of Hamas as possible before the MSM and the idiots and ignorants whine loud enough for them to stop. They must only quit when they are ready.
For EVERY missile shot into Israel at least ONE missile should be returned to the area as close as possible to the shooter. Tit for tat. Every single missile should be returned. Period. Treat them like adults, if they kill, they will be killed. If they send missiles, they will receive them. That is the only way they will learn. Screw public opinion, force them to see the truth, or let them be damned.

The debacle in Lebanon, lead Hamas to believe that Israel was ripe for the taking, so it started a barrage of rockets launched at the Jewish State. Early on, Israel refrained from retaliation to please mostly the Euros, who were asking for restraint while their "Diplomacy" attempted to stop Hamas. However, recognizing that Diplomacy was perhaps failing, Israel took the matters of their security in their own hands, and struck back with remarkable accuracy in their surgical strikes against Hamas targets. It is for Israel, quite a comeback.

The United Nations is vital for world peace. Yessiree. I am all for 'proportional response'. Hamas's stated goal is the elimination of Israel. Therefore, the only truly proportionate Israeli response is the extermination of Hamas. QED. I think that Spock would agree. I am not a Jew but I do know my history.
Jews were forced to wander all over the place and then almost exterminated as a people during the 1930-40s. Remember that?
The Jews, were originally from the Holy Land and if memory serves me right, Jesus Christ was a Jew born in what is now considered part of the Holy Land.
The fact that groups like Hamas have an issue living in peace with Israel side by side with each in their own State is not the Jews's fault.
The Jews simply returned to the place of their orgin as a people. It is really simple made difficult by pure hatred of the Jews by other folks who just feel the need to want to exterminate them like the current president of Iran.
So what are the Jews to do.....they have to protect themselves, don't they? Would you stand by and watch rockets shell your village on a daily basis and do nothing? Give me a break!

These acts define your adversary as a war criminal, but with supporters like haMaSNBC and the whole haMaSM who seem to love nothing better than war criminals, they seem quite proud of their ingenuity.
This of course leads to another question, also interesting: does lending moral and political support to war criminals make the lender a war crimina;?

Once and for all, I wish Israel would do what they should have done in the Nixon years... plow the palestinians into the sea, into Jordan, into Syria and create clean kill zones around her land.
Force and strength and resolve made her national airlines safe for transit. She needs find the same resolve to resettle the palestinians and declare Jerusalem her capital, kick out the muslims and tear down the muslim shrines... on TV.

There are so many who don't understand the issues, of the people of Palestine. How many people would put up with some one moving into their house if they have been living there all their lives?. Which unfortunately what has happend to the people of Palestine.
After the 2nd world war the British promised Hitler and the Rothchilds that they will give Palestine to the Kharars Jews who were Ashknazi Jews, so was Hitler, who was related to the Rothchilds though he was illigimate.
These people were converts to adopting the religion as Jews, though none of them pratice the religion. Infact only about 5% follow the faith most of them are none praticing Jews.
They have no connection with Palestine Israel. I note one person thought Jesus was Jewish no infact he was not Jewish at all. Most Jews call Jesus some of a prostitute, they don't accept Christ they never have.
These people are more associated to Paganism, and a blood thirsty people who are war mongers and lovers of money. They are not interested in any religion.
The crimes that is being committed by these people is by design. Money and big business, Arms dealers, Drugs, Gold Diamonds, and any things else they can. The whole idea is to keep the war going and Israel acts as accomplice to starting wars because it's good for the Arms industry.
Christian good god fearing people do not live thke these people. These people in all truth are Bandits, who have been travelling around the world for centuries.
Khazars which these people are, is a nomadic Turkic people. Khazars were initally Tengri Shamanist, many converted to christianity Islam, some adopted the Jewish faith.
The real Semetic Jews have never left Israel, or the Holy Land they have lived side by side with the Arabs for CENTURIES and lived peacefully.
These Ashkanazi Jews cannot live peacefully with anyone, and have been kicked out of Europe over 100 times as money lenders because they had a tendancy to bankrupt the host countries as robbers and theives.

Israel seems to have allowed itself to bend at the alter of "proportionality", going back decades. I can't think of another nation which has been pushed into so many constraints when trying to defend itself.
Israel might be better off responding back ten fold anytime it is attacked. But easy to say. Israel still debates with itself {something alien to Palestinians except for the various thugs who 'debate' each other with guns and bombs as they seek to suck their own people dry}.

The people who says Israel should not act within the constraints of international law are perhaps Asknazi Jews themselves.
And in all fairness many of them live in America and have total control of the American economy and their political system.
They have robbed and stolen the peoples money on the Wall Street Stock Market.
And after that have stolen TAX payers money, for bail out for their Banks, while accepting their golden handshakes of money that belongs to the people.
There is too much going on in the world and it's time it all came out in the main stream.
