San Jose Mercury reports:
“Campbell’s entry into the Republican primary for Senate is expected to split the moderate vote and Silicon Valley support, benefiting (Chuck) DeVore. But some political analysts contend that Campbell will provide a liberal bookend for (Carly) Fiorina, who can contrast her social positions – she opposes abortion and voted for Proposition 8, the same-sex marriage ban – with Campbell’s.”
Campbell is also likely to face statewide electability questions, as he lost by nineteen percentage points to Senator Feinstein in 2000. Proponents of Campbell are likely to cite his demonstrated ability to win as a Republican Congressman in Democratic Silicon Valley. The Republican candidates are running against Senator Barbara Boxer.
