I’ve not blocked out eight hours to watch the Academy Awards tonight. (“The nominations for best assistant lighting director in a documentary are…”) And I’ll start taking condescending lectures on immigration from Hollywood humbugs seriously as soon as the glitterati move Syrian refugee families into their servants’ quarters and start having them over for dinner.
But lest we forget, there actually have been bright moments in the awards ceremonies among all the crackpot politics and self-adulation. Instead of tonight’s interminable PC-fest and orgy of self-congratulation, better to re-watch the funniest and most on-point presentation in the history of the Academy Awards. This is from Paul “Croc Dundee” Hogan in 1986. Enjoy it again here.
