Stephanie Cutter, an adult who is deputy campaign manager for the President of the United States, was asked today about the terrorist attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, and actually said that “the entire reason that this has become the political topic it is, is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.” Given the jaw-dropping nature of Cutter’s comment, the incredulous expression that flashes across CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin’s face is impressively understated:
Believe it or not, Cutter is doubling down on Twitter. Here’s a screenshot, just in case that tweet mysteriously disappears.
Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and security officers Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were unavailable for comment.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign sent a statement to BuzzFeed echoing the tweet reference above, so I guess they’re sticking with their line. They seem to be saying it’s wrong to “politicize” the Obama administration’s failures. It’s not clear whether this applies only when people are killed, or if it also applies when people are, say, unemployed. Extend the logic far enough, and perhaps it’s out of bounds to criticize Obama’s policies at all. That would certainly make things a lot easier for the Obama campaign.
