What can I say about Melania Trump’s speech? While it’s not a great idea to plagiarize Michelle Obama, that didn’t exactly derail Joe Biden’s career, now did it? And, for that matter, President Obama took a page from former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s book back in 2008. Make that several pages.
So let’s put that issue to the side.
Her speech was pleasant enough and it was nice that she took a moment to praise Bob Dole. But her remarks about her husband bore scant resemblance to the man we’ve seen on the campaign trail for the past year or so.
I don’t doubt her sincerity when she says, “He is tough when he has to be, but he is also kind and fair and caring.” She did her very best to humanize Donald Trump. But….
Where is the humanity of a man who judges women solely by their physical appearance?
Where is the humanity of a man who says a federal judge should be disqualified from a case solely because of his Mexican heritage?
Where is the humanity of a man who says there could be riots unless he gets his way?
Where is the humanity of a man who derives pleasure in mocking a person’s physical infirmity?
Where is the humanity of a man who overtly admires dictators who murder their own people?
However sincere Melania Trump may have been in speaking about her husband, nothing she said last night persuaded me to cast a ballot for him. Nothing she said dissuaded me from the 10 reasons I will never vote for Donald Trump.
