Talk about being blind as a bat.
In a matter of days, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has managed not to calm the riotous waters of his state but to incite the protestors.
And in doing so, two of his constituents have now been killed.
One would think that someone who campaigned and got elected Governor of his state would have a basic amount of common sense. And certainly would know enough not to inflame the situation, all of which has now resulted in the deaths of two Minnesotans, Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.
You can’t get killed in a riot if you aren’t anywhere near the riot.
Of course, neither Good nor Pretti were innocents. They both deliberately involved themselves in an out-of-control civil disturbance and paid for their bad judgment with their lives. A tragedy to be sure, but a thoroughly foreseeable one without doubt. You can’t get killed in a riot if you aren’t anywhere near the riot. (RELATED: Peaceful Protestors Don’t Carry Loaded Pistols)
All of which, for the umpteenth time in American history, calls attention to the fact that riots are the last place anyone should be.
Gone but not forgotten is the 1967 riot in Newark, New Jersey. Racism was the excuse for that one, lasting four days and killing 26, with hundreds more seriously injured.
In the wake of the decidedly peace-loving Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination in 1968, riots broke out in over 100 American cities, resulting in some $50 million worth of damage and a number of people dead.
In 1992, riots spread over six days as a result of a jury’s acquittal of four Los Angeles police officers who were charged with beating African-American Rodney King after arresting him for a traffic stop. When all was over, 63 people had been killed, over 2,000 injured, and some 12,000 were arrested.
There have been other riots as well, the causes varying from charges of racism to anti-war protests and more.
But with all that history behind us, one would think Governor Walz would have the basic common sense not to inflame the crowds. Comparing ICE agents — many law-abiding family members — to Nazis, comparing them to the Nazis who persecuted the German-Jewish teenager Anne Frank, should go down as one of the worst examples of a state governor deliberately inflaming protestors to the point of rioting.
News reports that one rioter bit off an ICE officer’s finger — on top of the news of the two deaths — should be a wake-up call for Walz.
So.
The situation is ongoing. A phone call between President Trump and the governor apparently went well, per the president. Positive news for sure.
But suffice to say, the two deaths in this situation should have never occurred. That they did will be a permanent stain on Walz’s record.
And a reminder that he should never hold public office again.
