Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY) will endorse Secretary of State Trey Grayson today in the Kentucky Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Why is Rogers’ endorsement a bigger deal than Dick Cheney’s or Rudy Giuliani’s? Because the longtime congressman represents a solidly Republican district that, due to local races and other factors, may supply up to 50 percent of the primary vote.
The Washington Post‘s Chris Cillizza reports that Grayson will release internal polling showing him trailing Republican frontrunner Rand Paul by just one point. Grayson was up two in the last internal poll he released publicly. Only Grayson’s internals have shown the race close. All the public polling since December has Paul leading by double digits.
