Following unsettling “apprenticeships” as a teenage civil rights worker in Mississippi and campus SDS president, Mark Satin helped create the Toronto Anti-Draft Programme (for Vietnam-era war protesters), the New World Alliance, and the U.S. Green Party movement. Before Up From Socialism: My 60-Year Search for a Healing New Radical Politics (2023), his books included New Age Politics (1976) and Radical Middle (2004). His Washington, D.C.–based national political newsletters New Options and Radical Middle served visionary activists for over two decades. He currently lives in Oakland, California, with his partner, an educator and mother of two Indigenous sons.
