“I said nothing improper or illegal in my conversations with any head of state, including with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
“Conversations between the President of the United States and other heads of state must remain confidential for reasons that should be obvious. No head of state would be willing to discuss sensitive and vital issues with any American president if they know what they say will be read in the following morning’s newspaper. Therefore I will have nothing further to say about my conversations with any head of state. No transcripts of any conversation I have had with any head of state will be made available.”
