The first Gallup poll since President Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage shows 60 percent of voters say they won’t be swayed by this “evolution.” Twice as many say it makes them less likely to vote for Obama than more likely, however.
Only among Democrats is their a significant net advantage to Obama from embracing gay marriage, suggesting little backlash from black voters and validating the idea that this will help energize his base. Only 11 percent of independents say Obama’s change in position makes them more likely to vote for him; 23 percent say it makes them less likely.
