Donald Trump was on the defensive for comments he made about Carly Fiorina’s physical appearance in a profile of him in Rolling Stone.

Trump said of Fiorina, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next President?”

In a conversation with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Trump said, “I’m not talking about looks. I’m talking about persona.” This notwithstanding the fact that he made two specific references to Fiorina’s face.

All of this says a great deal more about Donald Trump than it does about Carly Fiorina. For her part, Fiorina let the comments roll off her back, telling Megyn Kelly, “I’m not going to spend a single cycle wondering what Donald Trump means. But maybe, just maybe, I’m getting under his skin a little bit, because I am climbing in the polls.”

It is worth noting that Trump did not have to face Fiorina in the first debate. He won’t have that luxury in next week. So we’ll see if Trump makes comments about Fiorina’s face to her face. When Fiorina gets through with him, I believe Trump will rue the day he chose to speak ill of her. As the old saying goes, “Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
