"At this late date, as Thompson finally gets in, he’d best start to demonstrate some real energy. That means working overtime and missing few important campaign events. A single missed debate, even a highly visible one in New Hampshire, is certainly not favorable, but Thompson can expect a very short honeymoon as a candidate. The other campaigns are contemptuous of his walk in the park, and they are gunning for him. And the press will be watching closely to see if his reputation for sloth is deserved. Thompson’s not going to get many free passes."
