Mel Martinez’s Greatest

by

Sen. Mel Martinez, picked by President Bush to head the Republican National Committee, spoke to the Florida GOP yesterday, demonstrating yet again that he is a questionable choice:

“I think the lesson we learned was that too often we were not speaking with a unified voice, that we allowed others to shape the agenda for us,” Mr. Martinez said.

And who were those others? I thought Karl Rove set the agenda. This isn’t too promising either:

“I gotta tell you, the greatest thing in the world is watching the Democrats trip over each other in the first few days,” said Mr. Martinez, referring to the party’s difficulty in setting a leadership team.

Wasn’t that the attitude going into the 2006 election? If he thinks that’s the greatest thing in the world, the Republicans are looking pretty sorry for 2008.
