Face like a cactus. Voice like an angel. (OK, a weed-cured angel, usually ahead or behind the beat.) Willie Nelson is 80 today. And still on the road.
Wedded to a kind of soft-headed left populism, as an analyst Willie makes Shirley MacLaine seem a deep thinker by comparison. But what a singer. And he’s written some fine country songs, not the least being “Crazy,” “Hello Walls,” and “Funny How Time Slips Away.”
Many happy returns, Willie. Keep singing, Cowboy.
