Those pushing for rapid removal of U.S. troops from Iraq need to read about the legacy we left behind in Laos, where Hmong were abandoned by the U.S. after years of fighting the North Vietnamese Communists. Lesson: Once you’re in, the way out is always complex, and you can never account for (or recover from) all the collateral damage you will be responsible for.
