Lerner Still Accessing Taxpayer Data
by

Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the targeting scandal, can still look up taxpayer data. According to National Review Online, Lerner’s computer access has remained unrestricted since she was placed on paid administrative leave on May 21 and she has accessed the system “as recently as June 4.”

According to National Review‘s IRS source:

[Lerner] can still access taxpayer data. If your duties do not include dealing with taxpayers, you are forbidden from seeing the information. That is a violation of IRS policy, and if she actually accesses any file that contains any Personal Identifiable Information, it is a felony violation. That would include emails that she has in her files discussing any taxpayer case that contains the name, address, phone numbers or tax data from a case. Actual Unauthorized Access (IRS uses the term UNAX) would be a really good reason for the new boss to can her in a hurry. I am sure a simple examination of her email files and hard drive would discover she still has taxpayer data.

So Lerner can still rifle through our information. That’s not exactly the consequences Americans hoped she would face when it became clear that the IRS was targeting conservatives.

On the other hand, maybe it doesn’t matter, since the IRS can watch her every movement. According to CNS News, the agency is ordering spying equipment, including hidden cameras in coffee trays, plants, and clock radios:

Among the items the agency will purchase are four “Covert Coffee tray(s) with Camera concealment,” and four “Remote surveillance system(s)” with “Built-in DVD Burner and 2 Internal HDDs, cameras.”

The IRS also is buying four cameras to hide in plants: “(QTY 4) Plant Concealment Color 700 Lines Color IP Camera Concealment with Single Channel Network Server, supports dual video stream, Poe [Power over Ethernet], software included, case included, router included.”

Finishing out the order are four “Color IP Camera Concealment with single channel network server, supports dual video stream, poe, webviewer and cms software included, audio,” and two “Concealed clock radio.”

Lerner might want to throw a sheet over any clocks she has at home. Then again, even that might not help. The NSA has plenty of other ways of tracking her.
