One could only laugh at President Obama’s executive orders on guns yesterday.

If, in fact, they weren’t so serious.

The one that catches my eye is turning doctors into some sort of American version of the Soviet Union’s party apparatchiks who would spy on their neighbors, reporting them to the political police as “enemies of the people.” So now Dr. Comrade Kildare will be asking: “Breathe in, breathe out. And by the way, do you have a gun in your house?”

Mark Levin caught the spirit of this yesterday, having examined the Obama 23 proposals with his constitutional eye. Fox’s Neil Cavuto sought him out yesterday and Mark didn’t hesitate. He went through them, labeling what he found as “Un-American” and “fascistic.” Bravo. Over at Mediaite, they have the clip here.

And while we’re at it, also at Mediaite was this from Joe Scarborough, who essentially advised Republicans to abandon the Constitution out of fear of Obama.

Wow.

TLP to Levin: I said it first.

Now there's a newsflash: The Great unhinged One called the President names. I'm shocked. Yawn.

The Great One, once again had to explain the Constitution to an alleged constitutional scholar.

RCV| 1.17.13 @ 6:57PM

The man doesn't "explain", he rants. And he's a lot less smart than his ego thinks he is.

RCV| 1.17.13 @ 6:58PM

There, I said it!

Diefledermaus| 1.17.13 @ 8:36PM

Oh really? Don't you mean he's a lot less smart than you?

I'm sure that's what you really meant since you're so full of yourself.

spike59| 1.18.13 @ 10:18AM

"Obama doesn't "explain", he rants. And he's a lot less smart than his ego thinks he is."

there-fixed it for ya

Free speech champion Jeff Lord thinks doctors should be banned from asking about guns. Knock me over with a feather. Now, I'm not sure why a doctor would ever ask a patient about gun ownership, but a law prohibiting them from doing so seems pretty stupid to me.

Stan Redmond| 1.17.13 @ 2:18PM

Not in the context of the Obamacare provisions that all medical records are to be kept electronically for all the federal bureaucrats to peruse. You may conside me paranoid with Obama's "under the radar" approach to gun control in the age of Fast and Furious. but what better way to know who has firearms without a gun registry (which would not likely pass Congress).

DRed| 1.17.13 @ 2:36PM

The Obamacare law already covers that. Doctors can't use medical records to collect data on gun ownership.

LIMITATION ON DATA COLLECTION.—None of the authorities provided to the Secretary under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or an amendment made by that
Act shall be construed to authorize or may be used for the collection of any information relating to—

‘‘(A) the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition;
‘‘(B) the lawful use of a firearm or ammunition; or
‘‘(C) the lawful storage of a firearm or ammunition.
‘‘(3) LIMITATION ON DATABASES OR DATA BANKS.—None of the authorities provided to the Secretary under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or an amendment made by that Act shall be construed to authorize or may be used to maintain records of individual ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition

So your comment above that a law preventing a doctor from asking about gun ownership would be pretty stupid says that Obamacare is a pretty stupid law. For once someone who actually thinks during their lifetime can agree with you.

16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."
------------------------------
as reported by CNN and Slate, as provided to them by the White House....care to 'splain, given your contention???? note that it says nothing about any new legislation to change existing law...merely clarification of Obamacare...maybe your 'source' will land you on the next episode of "Catfish?'

DRed| 1.18.13 @ 11:25AM

It's simple. Your doctor can ask you if you have guns in the house. He just can't tell the gubmint what your answer is.

Troon62| 1.17.13 @ 6:42PM

Are we not growing ever closer to the Orwellian state? Thanks to Obama, I now have to monitor whatever I say to my personal physician, for fear that he may report me to the feds for some vague, undefinable, possible, but not likely action that will upset our governmental masters. I'm sorry, but we no longer live in the America I knew and loved as a child of the 1950s.

RCV| 1.17.13 @ 6:59PM

The doctor you need to see is a psychiatrist. Your delusional paranoia is as silly as Jeffrey Lord's.

DRed| 1.17.13 @ 7:13PM

I guess you missed the post above where I pointed out that it's illegal for your doctor to report anything about your gun ownership?

Simon Templar| 1.18.13 @ 1:50AM

I guess you missed the reality that your fraud has actually proposed just that in his recent executive orders.

DRed| 1.18.13 @ 11:27AM

No, no he hasn't. Your doctor can ask you if you have guns in the house. But he can't report that information to the government. Mark Levin and Jeff Lord are lying to you.

Vance P. Frickey| 1.29.13 @ 1:48PM

You obviously missed the exceptions to HIPAA for national security, haven't you? They exist.

Vance P. Frickey| 1.29.13 @ 1:46PM

The minute my GP says... "Hey, Vance, so much for your PSA levels... you wouldn't happen to be packing iron, would you? Just curious... " then I find a new one. Unlikely with the guy my wife and I see... just saying.
