The former New York Times theater critic demonstrates his profound knowledge of the diplomatic/military situation in Afghanistan:
So virulent is the Islamophobic hysteria of the neocon and Fox News right - abetted by the useful idiocy of the Anti-Defamation League, Harry Reid and other cowed Democrats - that it has also rendered Gen. David Petraeus’s last-ditch counterinsurgency strategy for fighting the war inoperative. How do you win Muslim hearts and minds in Kandahar when you are calling Muslims every filthy name in the book in New York?
No one can dispute Rich’s expertise in hysteria, but his memory may be deficient, as he seems to have forgotten his own many pronouncements of doom in Afghanistan:
On July 31, just three weeks ago, Rich even wrote a column titled Kiss This War Goodbye, arguing that the leak of tens of thousands of classified files by WikiLeaks was a Pentagon Papers-like turning point in Afghanistan, signaling that the war was lost.
So if I understand Rich’s current column correctly, the surge which Rich declared in October 2009 could not work in Afghanistan, which Rich declared had failed by December 2009, and the war that Rich kissed-off just three weeks ago, really would have worked out for us if not for the wingnuts who object to the location of the Cordoba mosque and Islamic Center.
Ann Coulter had a few choice words for Keith Olbermann last week that apply with equal truth to Frank Rich.

Iam wondering if Rich is Jewish? This morning [on MSNBC's Scarborough] Rob Reiner was saying a similar thing in support of the mosque at ground zero. Don't these Jews understand/comprehend that the same Muslim terrorists who are supporting its construction are also waging a campaign in the middle east to destroy Israel and its Jewish inhabitants [and would if allowed line up every Jew and kill them dead]? What is it with these liberals that they are so blinded to the TRUTH of what goes on in life? Are they that brainwashed beyond any hope of mental cognition that they do not understand reality??????????????????

Your comments concerning Mr. Rich notwithstanding, how, exactly, in the internet age of instant and universal communication, does Fox's anti Islamic stance aid General Petraeus?
Oldfarte: Do you have proof that terrorists are funding the construction of the proposed community center? You can rest assured that Jews knew who their enemies are. They also understand discrimination based on nothing more than being a born a Jew and practicing their religion. Do you understand that kind of discrimination?

Mr. McCain, the title of this column is absolutely hilarious. Thank you for the much needed laugh. Frank Rich is the Wile E. Coyote of strategic thinkers. Every time he uses his ACME leftist kit to try & sway the public the t.n.t. goes off in his face & he then falls off the cliff. I think you should change the title of this column to "Frank Rich, Super Genius". Take care & GOD bless Mr. McCain!
