Charles Krauthammer does a great job recounting the defensive measures that Israel has taken over the years that have drawn condemnation from the international community. In the end, what else is left for them to do? “Nothing,” Krauthammer writes. “The whole point of this relentless international campaign is to deprive Israel of any legitimate form of self-defense.”

Exactly. And to Krauthammer’s list of things Jews can’t do to defend themselves, I’d add targeted assasinations of terrorist leaders.

What angers me most is how Jews and Israel are the universal scapegoats of humanity.
So when they say "we're attacking Israel, not Jews", they are being disingenuous.

"So when they say 'we're attacking Israel, not Jews', they are being disingenuous."

Goes without saying.

Alan Brooks| 6.6.10 @ 12:05AM

" 'What Israel needs to understand is that nothing is accomplished with force,' said Greta Berlin of the Cyprus-based Free Gaza group, which sent the latest aid vessel, the Rachel Corrie."

but Free Gaza are vegetarian Buddhists spreading "forgive thine enemy" to all the peoples of the region?

Alan Brooks| 6.6.10 @ 12:17AM

... when Free Gaza exhorts the Sermon On the Mount,
or somesuch,
then we will know they are serious.

Until then, Israel's crypto-enemies use the Arafat method: they hold an olive branch in one hand, and a sword in the other.

Yeah Krauthammer is also the one who said, " no one is suffering in Gaza" and that the humanitarian crisis was a myth. No matter what you believe about who is in the right or wrong, to say that the people of Gaza aren't suffering is like saying the holocaust never happened. It is not only a lie, it is an insult of the highest level. Krauthammer is a fool.

JP| 6.4.10 @ 4:53PM

Sam,
Please supply a link from a good source; I've read Krauthammer's work for a longtime and I've never read that before.

Besides your attempts at libel and throwing strawmen, you never offered one refutation to what Krauthammer wrote. Yes, the people of Gaza suffer; but that doesn't seem to bother Hamas much. They always seem to find the money, time, and effort to launch rocket attacks at civilian sites in Isreal; they never seem to lack for weapons, expensive intelligence, or training. And the UN who "manages" the "relief" efforts in Gaza seem not to mind one bit.

...crickets...

Typical.

c. j. acworth| 6.4.10 @ 6:24PM

Of course the people of Gaza are suffering horrible abuse every day. That's why it is imperative to get somebody other than Israel to run things there, some outfit that has the people's interests at heart and who will work to give them peace and prosperity, like, say, Hamas. Oh, wait....

The Gaza suffering is self induced. If they want to continue the path of the destruction of a people and country, they deserve the results.

Deborah D | 6.7.10 @ 5:56AM

Amen, John. I'm so sick of this "humanitarian relief" BS. They choose to live this way because they are obsessed with the destruction of Israel. All of the handouts from the world only keep them dependent on handouts from the world. If they would focus on making a decent life for themselves instead of the destruction of other's lives, then perhaps they could have decent lives. I'm sick to death of this BS. These people are not victims, they are parasites.

Israel Derangement Syndrome

ZerObama| 6.4.10 @ 5:42PM

That's YOUR malady, William--it's called "Hatred for Israel Derangement Syndrome." Your stench is overwhelming.

Loathsome creep.

William R| 6.4.10 @ 7:49PM

Perhaps you put the interest of Israel ahead of the United States. I don't. The Chief of Mossad said the other day Israel is a burden on the United States. It is.

William| 6.6.10 @ 10:27PM

Billy,
That mkes no sense, after all there are many burdens on the US, including Israel. I know you will think I'm a crank, but so be it. A Christian country must defend Israel. And besides to the point, this dispute over land has existed over 100's of generations. Don't be a sap.

United States National Interests trump the National Interests of Israel & The Palestinians.

Margie| 6.6.10 @ 11:08AM

It is in the best interest of the United States of America to back our ally, Israel.

martin j smith| 6.4.10 @ 4:12PM

The people of Gaza vopted for hamas( a terrorist organization ) Sam your not metioning the issue of rockets being fired from Gaza into Israeli territory.
But getting back to Krauthammer: Examining what he is saying is I bbelieve true but i go further. It points to the essential anti-Jewish attitude in a number of ways: In the muslim and Arab world --explicity and by commission. In the West by its knee jerk dumping on the jewish State and refusing to be at least if not more critical of Islamic Militant terrorism. On top of that its tolerance of Iran's constant threat to israel. Sorry--no I am not sorry--It is about anti-semetism ( anti-Jew . And even today, Helen Thomas our esteemed doyenne of journal said it all. Jews out of Palestine. Juden Frei!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is what I get out of Charles Krauthammers summation.

JP| 6.4.10 @ 4:56PM

Martin,
I think the phrase you are looking for is Judenrein (Cleansed of the Jews, or Free of Jews). The Germans Nazis were stickler for Hygiene.

martin j smith| 6.5.10 @ 8:25AM

JP, thanks for the correction. My concern now is the environment of hatred that the LEFT is percolating. Helen Thamsas's blurt was no accident. I am firmly convinced that the Socialist Left in this country--even those have Jewish surnames and probably Jewish ancestry--hate Jews. Reason: they have never come to terms with who they are. But more importantly our economy is in bad shape and when people are hurting they look to scapegoats and here lies the ughliness that we will have to cope with. In Greece it is the bankers who are to blame and some of them were killed in riots. I suspect many there do not get it. They want the good old days without cost. Problem is their leaders ( currupt as hell ) and no doubt on their own dole led them by the nose. This is what is happening to many rank and file Union workers here. Shen the S hits the F
what will these workers do ? They will be led by the nose by their union leaders into a frenzy of violence. Same for the non-workers dependent on the doles that are going to be un affordable. Waht target will the scapegoat be ?

Mimi| 6.5.10 @ 11:23AM

Excellent post Martin.......Sounds like "1930's Germany". Is history repeating itself? We have the wrong economic problem solvers' at the helm right now, in our country. The 'TIMES" are ominous, and points to the reason to vote in Republican/Conservative leaders. I think: In Jan. 2013 our economy will take off like a rocket and bounce back like a HARD-BALL. The Dem's have failed us! Even with the threat of policy/change, no hiring, ...... business FROZEN! The thaw will and must come.... All must hope....AND PRAY!!!

Oldefarte| 6.5.10 @ 11:27AM

The truly sad part of all of this is that our current federal administration was elected with the assistance of the Jewish vote to the tune of 80%; and they are just now coming to the realization that same is anti-Jewish and anti-Israel from the policies of our government in the last year plus. Hopefully, the Jews are now aware of the TRUTH and will vote with the rest of us starting in November to bring about needed.....CHANGE!!!!

Margie| 6.6.10 @ 11:12AM

And it is also truly sad that conservatives in our country did not vote for McCain/Palin because they considered McCain a "serial traitor to conservatism".

Was McCain/Palin better than Obama/Biden?

What you said so rightly applies to my thoughts about this, too.

Have we awakened enough to know the truth, that we need to be the winning party this time? I truly hope we have.

Oldefarte| 6.6.10 @ 11:59AM

Margie, Below is a letter to the editor of our local newspaper that I wrote in October of 2008, which pretty much defines my former [and current] position:

'I am writing this letter out of frustration with the upcoming presidential election. The American citizens are, according to the polls, STUPID and INSANE! On the one hand, you have a elderly, historic war hero and prisoner of war that sacrificed his life for the well being of America and its citizens [the Republican]; and, on the other hand, you have a MYSTERIOUS/unknown person that is dangerously close to assuming the presidency [the Democrat]. It has been documented that the Democrat received early, childhood instructions in Muslim religious institutions, the likes of which have produced the terrorists/bombers of September 11th, 2001 and their resultant carnage; that he has received an extremely expensive education at Columbia and Harvard Universities by means of tuition LOANS and that he was somehow able to pay back said loans by working as a lowly-paid, Chicago community organizer/social worker; that known wealthy/political individuals have acknowledged their lobbying efforts at getting him accepted into these prestigious universities; that he used his legal skills to further the agenda of voter registration organizations that are known for their fraudulent and illegal activities; that several major[semi private/public] housing financial corporations [now bankrupt] have provided vast sums of financing money to his campaigns; that he has sat idly by listening to the maniacal raving of lunatic preachers for 20 years; that he has associated himself in Chicago with the likes of a former domestic terrorist and a financially crooked businessman; and that he is one of the most liberal senator in this country’s history, is financially/politically supported by another, now dying liberal senator and he constantly lies about his desire to give 95% of income earners a tax refund, if elected. The stupid and insane part of all of this is that the American people/voters are apparently so brainwashed by the totally biased media into believing their [media’s] political spin and masquerade of the above, that they [voters] are now evenly split on whether to vote for the Republican or the Democrat candidate for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! '

Margie| 6.6.10 @ 12:09PM

Well that certainly leaves no doubt in my mind that you are in your right mind. But then I never really had to doubt that before, anyway!

It really does come down to this doesn't it:

Democrat/ Marxist party 2012 -OR-
Republican /Free Enterprise party 2012.

We just cannot afford a "Third" choice or "No-Votes".

Onward!

martin j smith| 6.5.10 @ 12:06PM

I strongly suspect that BHO has lost about 30-40 % of the Jewish vote and may lose more. That is what I have gathered and explains why there is panic in the WH about this --however, thanks to Helen Thomas ( well I'll give BHO credit too for his stellar performance at the UN and response to the Joke flotilla ) more Jews are not byin it.

Now here is another thing to think about--sadly: Lets say--that Repubs and Conservative candidates do very well in November and have majorities in both houses ( very optimistic I know ) but lets just say. Do you believe the Democrat Party will go home and suck their thumbs. Think again. They will agitate and rile up the " masses"
and there be trouble ahead. The Democrat Party you recall never accepted the 2000 election results. They will not change. So when efforts are made to cut spending or to cut taxes and the
pet programs are cut out or pay raises for union workers are eliminated or cut or whatever--the mob will come out. And I fear violence in the streets. Watch New Jersey--where Chris Christie is a laboratory for the future. So far he is standing to the unions the bullys. Lets see what happens.
Speaking of scapegoating.

Yosemeti Sam| 6.5.10 @ 10:58PM

Yo - my fellow Americans.

Be advised I have no relatives named Sam!
