The Spectacle Blog

How the mighty have fallen.  Barely two months after the great communicator was inaugurated, he is being compared to ... Jimmy Carter!

Writes Tim Shipman in the Daily Telegraph:

Barack Obama's gaffe mocking the disabled by comparing his (inept but improving) 10 pin bowling skills to the "special Olympics" illustrates the problem he now has in communicating with the American people.

Obama seems incapable of balancing the need to be a national leader and his childish desire to retain his image as the uber cool dude he so clearly believes that he is.

The fact that he felt the need to go on Jay Leno at all to sell his stimulus plan, budget and banking bailouts shows that he has communications issues. The public are not buying his spending splurge, or his administration's confused attempt to kill off executive bonuses.

Mike Allen and Jim Vandehei at Politico wrote a characteristically insightful piece on Thursday that began: "Of all the pitfalls Barack Obama might face in the presidency, here is one not many people predicted: He is struggling as a public communicator."

It's a little early to write off President Obama, and it's hard to imagine him failing as dramatically as did Jimmy Carter.  But the mere fact that commentators, British as well as American, are making the comparison is not good news for the president, and his plans to turn America into a slightly less collectivist version of Europe.

Personally, when I think of Mr. Obama, the word Reflux comes to mind instead of Redux--but I get your point.

Not to hard to believe. Obama did inherit a mess in part created by his own party though the Republicans and Bush are far from innocent. However he is naive and inexperienced like Jimmy and it shows. Borrowing from the typical bag of tricks ,democrats readily embrace, and pushing things through on fear of crisis. Already his stimulus bill is not enough and it has been a month already. No one reads they just push and push ,this will grow tiresome on the American people. The only question left to seal it is Obama spineless and an appeaser like Jimmy?

There is precious little daylight between the domestic and foreign policy of Obama and the unmitigated disasters of the bumbling Carter Administration. Obama has even brought-on Paul Volcker, who helped Carter drive interest rates to 22%, on-board... and recently had Carter at the White House for some of his sage advice, LOL-

Now Obama is calling on far-left blogs in press conferences to avoid former sycophants like the New York Times... who started to ask Barack uncomfortable questions lately, like "are you a socialist".

Small wonder then that Obama's approval rating has gone from the mid 70s to Zogby's 50% this week.

Time to come out of the ether, America- and stop this Stalinist nutcase-

.

Barack Obama: Jimmy Carter Redux?

After 60 days in office you are a moron to even ask.

However it is quite clear that George Bush was Herbert Hoover redux.

Why not focus on that? You right wing hack.

I think Jharp is the type of Obama troll that Breitbart was talking about. Hey Harpie, why don't you go play at the Huffington post where you belong.

Don't much care for the Huffington Post.

Why don't you go there?

And Breitbart is as dimwitted and paranoid as you bozos here are. I'm just an ordinary middle class father who has had it with the lies.

A little hint. Stop the lying and other BS and watch me go away..

Publius804| 3.29.09 @ 10:05PM

Harpie, don't wait just go away. Leave politics to the adults, and go watch the daily show ok genius?

The notion that Obama may have a communication problem is an EXCELLENT point.

President Bush has been excessively reviled in the popular media because, in my opinion, he was reticent to go after his critics on big issues, like Katrina.

President Obama seems not to be making that mistake, however he runs into another conundrum in doing so. If you are a leftist ideologue, most of which is made up of emotional arguments and good intentions, you run into speechless and embarassing moments when faced with blunt questioning.

As smooth as his presentation appears, I think the internet questioning and frequent press conferences will be fewer and more controlled over time as he retreats into the White House bunker.

Hey Doug, this is a wonderful post, but I think Barack is doing a pretty decent job and has taken many steps to show that he is serious about eliciting change in the Executive Office. I think that there are still a lot of challenges, and you can expect that it will not always be easy and that he will have to make many tough and unpopular decisions. People might enjoy this list of the top ten signs the president’s gig is harder than you thought: http://www.toptentopten.com/topten/signs+president+gig+is+harder+than+you+thought

Just leave him alone and get a life. He is trying his very best to get you ALL out of the mess you created for yourselves, while he was attending to the needy, you were busy lining your pockets....GOD IS IN CHARGE...wake up and look deep into yourselves. GREED rules you ALL that is why you are so impatient, you created the mess so lay in it and leave Obama alone.....WE LOVE HIM.
