Yes, "The One" Should Fail

We will not be intimidated, we will not be bullied, we will not be silenced, and we will not lose. Barack Obama's thugocracy is dishonest, dangerous, and malicious, but it cannot be stronger than the aroused might of a free people. His foreign policy deliberately debases U.S. interests rightly understood, in an effort to suborn our sovereignty in favor of a United Nations he in turn wants to control. But even on foreign policy, there are certain checks on his power that can be called into play. We who oppose his aims -- yes, Michael Wilbon (Washington Post sportswriter who blasted Rush Limbaugh), we who hope that Obama, who happens to be "a black man," fails, and fails miserably at those ends -- must not, however, fall into Obama's Alinskyite traps. We must keep our own eyes on the ball.

The ball right now is the unprecedented power grab in the name of health care. That is Obama's whole immediate domestic ball of wax. Because Obama is losing on the issue, losing quite badly, in the court of public opinion, he is trying to change the subject and distract our attention so we, the broad American public, will ease our pressure against Democrats skittish of doing a lemming act on health care. If we ease our pressure on them on health care in order to fight Obama on other fronts, those skittish Democrats might succumb to the White House pressure instead and use parliamentary tricks to pass the legislative monstrosity Obama seeks.

That's what the attack on Fox News is all about: It's a distraction. That's what the attack on Rush Limbaugh was and is: a distraction. Attack on the TEA partiers: distraction. Attack on insurance companies, and so on and on: distraction. distraction, distraction, distraction. "The basic tactic in warfare," wrote Obama's organizational idol, Saul Alinsky, "is a mass political jujitsu." And "the real action is in the enemy's reaction." And "the major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition," so "pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

In response, we can't afford to let the attacks go unanswered, but we also can't afford to let them dominate our attention. We can't let the Left pick and freeze the target. We need to swat them down, and keep moving against the main Obama power grab.

All that said, others (like The American Spectator's own Phil Klein, who has done yeoman's work on the issue) can highlight the Left's main weak points regarding Obamacare. Let this column instead catalogue the ways in which the Obamites try to bully us, silence us, etcetera -- so that with this catalogue in one handy place, the rest of the movement can focus instead on Obamacare's weaknesses.

If you follow this roundabout logic so far, then:

Note, and don't allow it, when this administration tries to keep insurance cooperatives (Humana) from communicating with their own customers. Note, and don't allow it, when it targets a whole industry (insurers again) for attack. Note when it bullies car companies and banks. Note when it threatens the Chamber of Commerce. Note when it puts out booklets equating conservative veterans and activist groups with hate militias. Note when the president himself says he will "call out" those who disagree with him, that he will "not abide" us, that his opponents are "filling the airwaves with deceptive and dishonest ads" when the ads are actually factual. Note when he repeatedly accuses his opponents of using "scare tactics," yet in the next breath says "if we do nothing, our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it the most. And more will die as a result." And then, having said that doing nothing will make more people die, he accuses those who don't agree with him of wanting to do nothing. Nice smear, that.

Note when the administration and its lackeys attack Fox News and when they attack Limbaugh. Note when they tell an Arizona sheriff that he's not allowed to tell the press about his pickups of illegal aliens. Note when they fire Inspectors General who embarrass their friends, after telling one of them that he too isn't allowed to talk to the press. Note when they tell towns in North Carolina that they cannot hold nonpartisan elections because blacks need to know who the Democrat is -- even if the town itself is majority black and voted to hold its elections in a non-partisan way. Note when they condone vote fraud and voter intimidation when it suits their purposes. Note when they drop an already-won case against vicious New Black Panther Party members. Note when they accuse Americans of being "a nation of cowards" on race. Note when they blame every problem on their White House predecessors. Note how they lock Republicans out of committee meetings. Note how they refuse to let the public have time to read legislation before it is voted on. Note how they vote on legislation that isn't actually even in one written piece yet.

They promise transparency, but they stonewall legitimate Freedom of Information Act requests on subject after subject. They stonewall legitimate information requests even from ranking congressmen. They refuse to turn over information about the fired or disciplined Inspectors General. They won't turn over information about their decision to subvert Honduran constitutional democracy in favor of an anti-American leftist thug. They won't turn over information about the New Black Panther decision. They lie about who made the decision. They lie about their efforts to politicize recipients of government arts grants. They brag about controlling information given to the press, and about controlling the press itself. They have a communications director who idolizes mass murderer Mao Tse-tung. They have a manufacturing czar who also speaks favorably about Mao. They have a science czar who quotes Mao, and who says it is not unconstitutional to coerce abortions or to put prophylactic chemicals into the drinking water (!!!).

Their attorney general refuses to protect the civil rights of white people (unless the whites are gay). Their Justice Department drops cases against an allied governor of New Mexico -- yes, that's called interfering with prosecutorial decisions. They gut the public integrity section of Justice. They ignore career prosecutors in the civil rights division and in the appellate division. The attorney general also overrides the established position of the division charged with constitutional interpretation (after pledging to support the division's independence).

The Obamites unilaterally violate the sanctity of contracts (and probably the Constitution) to gut the ownership rights of secured creditors and expand the unearned ownership by the unions. They threaten businesses that won't jump in line behind their takeover plans. They set up a pay czar who threatens to literally force executives to accept "negative" salaries. And when faced with complaints about utterly abusive new regulations that will criminalize people holding garage sales and put hundreds or thousands of businesses out of, yes, business, they loudly boast that "there's a new sheriff in town." And they invite foreign authorities, at the expense of our civil liberties, to regulate us further.

And, of course, they say their opponents are all racists, or they say that honest citizens speaking up of their own free will at town hall meetings are thugs and haters and rabbles and mobs and should probably be shut down.

I could go on, but that's enough for now. We will not be shut down. We will not relent. We will not be intimidated by false accusations of racism, or of greed, or of hatred, or of any other ill motives. We are motivated by love of country, and of freedom. And we will keep working to keep our country free.

We will do so whether or not the president can "abide" us and whether or not he calls us out. Actually, let him call us out. We call him out, too. In the light of day and the light of reason, we are more in our element than he is. We will win, and he will fail. And that's a good thing.

Well said Quin. You've revved me up for the morning!
To these Mao lovers in OUR White House, the Constitution is just a document that's in their way. The will work to destroy it if we don't stop them next year.
We need true conservatives, not these McCain RINOS who are left of center 99% of the time.
where is Sarah?

Big J| 10.23.09 @ 7:54AM

stephanie,

Sarah just placed her full support (financially and verbally) behind the conservative candidate Hoffman in NY23.

Go check out her statement here:
http://www.facebook.com/note.p.....7794838434

She put a smack down on the republican establishment and Newt Gingrich. I predict it to be the endorsement heard 'round the world today. This should drive the left absolutely bonkers, and I'm going to be lovin' every minute of it!

Ian| 10.23.09 @ 6:15PM

Why would it drive the left bonkers? It just shows how fragmented and ridiculous the republican party has become. Think about it. She posted this on facebook. Facebook...

Beth| 10.26.09 @ 1:00AM

Sarah posts "Hoffman" on Facebook, and you read it.
Sarah posts "death panels" on Facebook, and you read it.
It just shows how ridiculous the Progressives have become.

Why do you idiot trolls always double or triple post your stupid comments? Public School education on display.

PAT| 10.24.09 @ 9:10AM

It doesn't matter where it was posted, just so it gets out. And it should drive the left bonkers or over any convenient cliff. If you can't see -- or if you condone -- what is going on, you are already bonkers. Learn to say "Heil, Mao" and mean it.

Ian| 10.23.09 @ 6:17PM

Sarah left office half way through. Remember?

SandyC| 10.24.09 @ 9:46AM

Yes Ian, yes she did. And now we have a free speaking, and free thinking real Conservative to further the Conservative revolution, that the RINOS in Congress, and Gingrinch, have all failed to do. I guess, by your posts, she scares the crap out of you, and all your looney Liberally educated Communist lovers.

this is a man's world. You want political women's lib, then vote Dem. otherwise, you WAIT. maybe a decade or more, to be optimistic

Yeah, how about that Sandra Day O'Connor who waited "patiently" until President Reagan appointed her the first female Supreme Court Justice? And Madeline Albright appointed by George H.W. Bush as the first female Secretary of State. That was several decades ago I believe., though I could be wrong since I am only a Republican female.

Why hasn't the RNC put out a statement that it is racist? If it's racist to criticize a black president, then why isn't it racist to criticize a black Republican leader?

Wow, You have captured my thoughts and feelings exactly. This is a fight that we must win, for our liberty and and the fate of our country hang in the balance. We must arm ourselves with the facts and seek the truth always. There's no time for fence sitting. To paraphrase Thomas Payne: This is no time for summer soldiers or sunshine patriots.

Gazinya| 10.23.09 @ 8:16AM

There is no doubt that it almost beyond coincedence the syncronicity of The Obama and this Congress should meet at this time in our history. To 'fundementally change this nation.' It is also amazing that so many liberals can hold this nation in so much contempt. We grew up together. We went to the same movies and ate at the same greasy spoon and had the same basic childhood experiences. How did these people who could have lived next door to us and even been people we were fond of turn out to be so seemingly disconnect to the American experience? But the one thing that is even more baffleing is how could The Obama be so unlike even his democrat enablers? Shared experience?

I don't think The Obama has ever even had any American experience. His whole life has taken place somewhere other than most of us have been. He has hidden his experiences from public view. Even the Clintons had a trail. We could put ourselves in their shoes. We mostly came away with a different outlook but we knew Bill and Hillary. But The Obama is not one of us. Not his life or his experiences. None of what would help us try to figure this guy out is apparent. We have had really crappy congresses before but there was always, even with Carter, some hope that he at least was even slightly connected with our history. But The Obama? He seems not to be able to conjur up one decent thought about this country. I don't care for him. I don't like him. I don't know him. He is a Lucifarian.

Chalkdust| 10.26.09 @ 2:33PM

For most people, political decision making is a right-side brain function; the emotional side the that is often influenced by parents, teachers and professors. The left-side brain is controlled by logic, reason and calculation. Which explains why men, who have stronger left-side brains, are generally conservatives, populists and libertarians. Churchill said;" if you're not a conservative by the time you're 40, you have no brain."

Appleby| 10.23.09 @ 9:17AM

The beloved Sixties "kids" are now in charge of the candy store, and as the rest of us predicted, they are looting it, trashing it and will burn it to the ground.

You have elected the people whose fondest memory is wee-weeing in the wastebasket of the President of their University.

As the guy in "Independence Day" said:

I BEEN TELLIN' YA! AIN'T I BEEN TELLIN' YA?

And as the British fellow asked the German aristocrat in "Cabaret" after hearing the little Nazi boy lead the patrons in a chorus of "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" ... you still think you can control them? (Remember, the next time he heard from that particular German, it was via post card from Argentina. Think about it.)

Mimi Evans Winship| 10.23.09 @ 9:18AM

Keep saying this in prose, Quin, and I'll keep repeating it in verse, and everyone keep talking, talking, talking until we drown out these usurpers of freedom. Then watch them scuttle back into the shadows of obscurity.

It's been said before and is sounding ever smarter:
The path to Ronald Reagan was paved by Jimmy Carter.

davelnaf| 10.23.09 @ 9:37AM

The intimidation tactics that Obama and his minions are using do not guarantee success in the long run. And what informs them that the goals they seek have a realistic chance of success or that the risks they are taking are worth it? One thing is clear: these people are so radical they are blind to the likely consequences of their actions and are willing to risk just about everything for the sake of their vision of a radically transformed America. But are moderate Democrats in Congress also willing to risk everything and follow them over the cliff?

Wesley Mouch| 10.23.09 @ 9:57AM

What will work to bring Obama down in 2010 midterm elections

1. Leave Rush as the true spokesman for the Republican party.
2. Carry on with the Kenyan birth certificate stuff.
3. Make every effort to get Sarah Palin on the ticket for 2012.
4. Continue to call Barack Hussein Obama a dictator & fascist etc.

All of the above resonate very well with the majority of Americans, are true to the principles of the Republican party, and are not in any way radical & unhinged. We will have a permanant Republican majority!

Amor de Cosmos| 10.23.09 @ 10:08AM

I disagree. What will work to bring down Obama's crew are fiscal conservative candidates that publicly pledge to cut up his public debt credit cards. Fiscal conservatism is the unifying force in the Republican Party and one that is a winning policy in bailout fatiqued America.

Hammering Lightworker on the complete and utter failure of his fiscal policies is what will be his undoing. 10% unemployment and billions down the hole are easily comprehensible by even the lowest of the low information voters.

Wesley Mouch| 10.23.09 @ 10:30AM

I don't think that will work. There are no credible fiscal conservatives in the GOP other than Ron Paul. Everyone knows he's a whacko who believes in gold so he has no chance. So, we go with Sarah Palin & birth certificates. That'll work.

E. Burke| 10.23.09 @ 12:50PM

Nice try there, Mr. Mouch. You did get at least one person to bite on the parody, but the birth certificate coupled with the Palin snark revealed your true colors.

Wesley Mouch| 10.23.09 @ 11:47PM

Argghh. Foiled again!

I have to admit, the Sarah Palin thing was over the top. I'll have to work on it. It's tough when you're in the reality based community visiting with y'all but it is fun, I'll give you that. Rock on, Amor de Cosmos!

SandyC| 10.24.09 @ 9:57AM

I think you are wrong Wesley- The birth certificate thing is rediculous, that is of course unless you are a Paulite. You need to look a little closer at Paul's fiscal record. He is a major earmarker in the House, check the records you will see it in black and white. Then he comes out swinging against all the wasteful and any other spending by the Government. He is a hypocrite, as well as a loony. Now with Palin, that I can agree on.

Nobama| 10.24.09 @ 4:37AM

Go back to your loser friends at HuffPo, troll.

Amor de Cosmos| 10.23.09 @ 10:02AM

Bully Quinn.

Leftist ideas are not popular. Leftists only get their way by intimidating the opposition into silence.

In the election Obama advocated his followers to cajole opponents and "get in their faces". My advice: Laugh in their faces. Don't be intimidated. Don't be brow beaten into accepting the premise that liberty, individuality, conservative ideas and the Constitution are racist, imperialist, homophobic, etc. Rejoice that you are not the one seeking to put flowers on your chains and call it liberty like they are. In other words, see them for the bullies they are and offer no surrender to the Chicago thugs.

Si Vis Pacem| 10.23.09 @ 10:10AM

Mr. Hillyer, thanks again!

The Press Pool's rejection of the Fox ban was a significant if small victory. Beware distractions: "We must keep our own eyes on the ball."

Anthony| 10.23.09 @ 10:29AM

Each day, as I struggle to determine whether the glass is half full or half empty when it comes to my belief in the American people, my hope is that some transcending event will lift the vail of ignorance and blind partisanship from those who fail to see the obvious. History has all too often proven that those in the past with similar hopes , have found themselves deeply disillusioned.
Yet I hope that Obama and his thugs have finally caused this tipping point, with their jackbooted, Stalinist attacks on FOX news and the alternative media.
Finally, some men/woman on the left, of timid and tenuous bravery, have begun to say enough is enough. Jake Tapper of ABC for one.
While I don't expect an epiphany from the MSM and other Leftist elites, about "The One", nonetheless, there are some basic values and mores that transcend the deep divide between the Right and the Left.
Obama, may very well, in ways he never intended, prove himself to be the transcending figure his followers hoped for. Obama's naked, raw and hidebound Alinsky-like tactics, may very well have woken a few folks up. Let's hope.
If I'm wrong, well, to echo Quin, Obama and his thugs still have to get past the rest of us, and we will not go quietly into the night.

TennesseeVolunteer| 10.23.09 @ 10:37AM

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
Quin, I am almost in tears. Not just because of the strength and nobility of your words but because all of us here in the hinterland who knew in our hearts that this administration was not just in error, but actually evil in intent.
Continue to educate others as you are doing. Your 'shot heard around the world' will resonate with others n the press and help us continue the groundswell of everyday Patriots who want more individual freedom, less government and a real future for our children and grandchildren. It is not about the quality of my life anymore, it is about the perpetuity of the American way of life for the young and the future unborn.
You have great power in your pen, continue to write the truth and the people will find their way.
God bless you, stay strong and never, ever give up.

Mac Fuller| 10.23.09 @ 11:16AM

Well said, and true.

The following is and email I sent to friends, several S.C. news outlets, as well as S.C. Republican Senator, Jim DeMint and S.C. Congressman, Joe Wilson. I'm afraid Senator Lindsey Graham may have already become a South CarObamalinian:

In true totalitarian form and substance, the OBAMA White House attempted to silence free press yesterday. Where's the reporting? Do OBAMA VOTERS understand yet? "Where is the 'outrage'"?

The other four "press pool" television news agencies thankfully (but likely because even they could see that the Obama tiger would eventually eat them next -- "divide and conquer") refused to go along with the Executive branch attempting to control free press and speech, but,... NO mainstream media is covering this attempted -- but only for the moment -- foiled Obamatalitarian power grab.

Where is the New York Times on this story (they gave it one, two-sentence paragraph in a 23-paragraph article about Mr. Axelrod and Roger Ailes of Fox, on page A16)? The Washington Post (none -- although it did splash on the front page the false assertion that "Support for public option growing in House, Senate" when even the Left-leaning Politico admits it is falling, and precipitously so)? The Chicago Tribune? Where are the other four news networks themselves?

If you think, much less believe, Anita Dunn and Ron Bloom and Van Jones and Cass Sunstein and Mark Lloyd and Julius Genachowski, etc., etc., as well as the gentleman from Illinois who appointed them are anything but socialists, or worse, in liberal clothing -- pardon my emotional consternation -- but you are either an unrelenting Obama sycophant, willfully blind, or an absolute idiot.

ALL -- that is ALL, for those who are history-challenged -- totalitarian regimes in the 20th Century have come from the LEFT, and yes, that includes Hitler's Nazi's -- NAZI stood for "National Socialist Party" (not to mention doom) and began as an extension of "progressive"
policies instituted by Bismark (such as the attempt at, yes, "universal health care"). The Obama Machine is headed down a path America had best not trod or there will be no freedom nor liberty to export to the world -- as the Left and liberals are so fond of criticizing.

Watch the video. It's only 2 and 1/2 minutes long.
Then wonder where your local viewspaper,
your local news outlet, is on this story:

Eric Erickson's written comments are here, along with the video:
http://www.redstate.com/moe_la.....ody-stump/

...Oh, and just listen to President Obama's Left-hand man, David Axelrod, at the beginning of the video telling George Stephanopoulos that his (ABC) and other news organizations should not treat Fox News -- the only news organization consistently shedding light on the Obama Administration's growing darkness -- as a news agency.

The Obama Administration cannot bear criticism. The President and his advisors cannot help but be pierced when light is shed upon their true Socialist, if not worse, agendas for all Americans. Mr. Obama's idolater-like followers and Leninesque "useful idiots" cannot bear to see their foolishness revealed in the public square, much less admit to the enormity of their easily avoided November mistake.

The "mainstream media" is filled with such folks.

Pray for America. Pray really hard. Then get to work using whatever God-given talents you possess to influence, inspire, and motivate others to help save this wonderful country from the actions of the so very, very, very many Obama marionettes.

Thank you for the opportunity to send this to a broader audience. Also, I recently published several articles about the Obama Administration at American Thinker (sorry, Spectator), which readers might find interesting:
"All the President's Mao":
http://www.americanthinker.com.....s_mao.html
and
"Ship of Fools: Obama's Intimates and Advisors," earlier in the month.

Wasn't Wesley Mouch the guy from Atlas Shrugged? Anyway, the deal with the birth certificate is not that he is foreign born, but that his faith is listed as Islam. Ditto all the college records. The Governor of Hawaii is a Republican, albeit a RINO. Had the birth certificate indicated foreign birth, even she would not have permitted this mess to come to a constitutional crisis.

I can't believe how this article has focused my feelings. I DO want him to fail... for him to not fail will be a travesty for this country. Well said Quin Hillyer and well done American Spectator for allowing this to reach us. This president has been a disaster and all I can pray for is a congress voted into office in 2010 that will be able to slow, if not, stop him from any more of this nonsense!

Seek| 10.23.09 @ 1:10PM

Fine smackdown, Quin. Obama's smooth style shouldn't be allowed to mask his innate despotism. His whole administration should be subject to the Ted Nugent/Metallica/Aerosmith treatment from our side.

Sheila| 10.23.09 @ 1:15PM

Anthony, I hate to break it to you, but there is no longer any American people to have any faith in - they've been replaced - too outdated, too white, too Christian, you know. They are a numerical minority in the under 5 year olds, I believe, and in only a few years will be a minority in the under 18 population as well. Demography is destiny.

Yes, Quinn's battle cry sounds quite lovely - but this "we will prevail" attitude is a an equally lovely fantasy based on provably false assumptions. As for a presumed "return" to democracy - we've had leftist progressives running this country since the early 1900s and our Republic died long ago. And for those few who say that in the end, the dying tree of liberty will be watered in blood - I challenge you to come up with enough who will truly put their lives on the line for their principles - as our Founding Fathers did. I don't believe you'll find them.

"I challenge you to come up with enough who will truly put their lives on the line for their principles - as our Founding Fathers did. I don't believe you'll find them"

Actually, we can find them. We find them every day in the military, who volunteer to serve. They're not drafted, they're not forced to serve, they volunteer to fight and die for their principles.. They're doing it right now, in foreign lands, to bring their principles to those who do not have them, who are not allowed them. And they vote conservative, by a HUGE percentage.

We do have our heroes, and they're, by far and large, active members of the military, recent veterans, and their families. Those members and veterans, and their families, will bring this country back on track, just as they did in the Reagan years. I have no doubt about that, nor should you.

Margie| 10.23.09 @ 10:07PM

Hear Hear!! Excellent post Ray, thank you.

Todd| 10.25.09 @ 7:10PM

You don't have to be in the military to lay your life down for your beliefs. Ipersonally don't want a militarily run country. Look at countries with the juntas as administrators.

Anthony| 10.23.09 @ 1:59PM

Well Sheila, I guess your glass is a lot more than just half empty. I can't say I disagree with you, but as to those who will put their lives on the line for principles, maybe some of our 1/2 million strong in the military will lead the way for the rest of us wannabes, along with sister Sarah.

Louis Jenkins| 10.23.09 @ 4:29PM

Shelia, I have to agree. You white anglo saxon protestant folks of child bearing age better get busy!!

Nobama| 10.24.09 @ 4:45AM

Sheila, will you put YOUR life on the line for your principles?

I.M.| 10.23.09 @ 1:38PM

Quin, this is one of your very best writings, and it is truly inspirational and absolutely true. The best way to fight what is now occurring is to VOTE [for any/all true conservatives that pledge to represent their constituents as DC congressmen; and not for the Pilosi's,Ried's,Schumer's, Rangel's, OR Bohnier's, McConnel's of their political parties]. We voters do need you writers/newsmen to completely inform us of the who, what, when, where, etc on upcoming elections [and give us your informed recommendations as to which candidate(s) representate true conservative choices]. With that in mind, it will be up to us voters [and we'll then have no excuses for allowing another 11/4/08 to ever occur again]to go to the polls and VOTE FOR CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES!!!!!!

David T.| 10.23.09 @ 2:09PM

Mr. Hillyer

You are the new Thomas Paine.

Sheila| 10.23.09 @ 2:17PM

Ray and Anthony - yes, we do have heroes in our military. I have personally gone to the airport here in DFW to welcome them home. HOWEVER, read some of their own comments (and comments of veterans) regarding racial relations in the military. Read about Hispanic gang members joining to become more skilled when fighting for their gangs and drug cartels. Think about our giving away our citizenship to those foreigners who join (and don't even have to be in active-duty combat positions - most minorities are in support/admin) after one lousy year - talk about mercenaries!

Whether our soldiers trend conservative is irrelevant - most of the time their votes are discounted en masse (see recent rulings in Virginia about military ballots) and you are STILL presuming we'll have free/fair elections in the future. I will still stake my Ivy League education and credentials that the 2010 congressional elections will be marked by massive fraud in borderline districts (ACORN, SEIU, illegals voting - see all the elections they've already stolen - with results like Loretta Sanchez) and there will be no election in 2012, because Obama and his ilk will NEVER voluntarily surrender power. They won, remember? The Black man "rules" us now, remember? You're damned right my glass is less than half full. I can take care of myself, but I despair for my children's futures.

Louis Jenkins| 10.23.09 @ 4:32PM

Well Shelia, you're right again. Most of the shooters are caucasian, while minorities do ancillary duty. That's why Obama's appearances at military bases look so diverse. We'll have to teach our kids how to take care of themselves regardless of the future.

SoCon| 10.24.09 @ 4:49AM

Sheila, you need prayer; you sound hopeless. Regardless of what you say; it's not skin color that matters--it's character. I'm sorry for you that you don't know that.

Splendid, splendid, splendid!
God bless you for your courage.

Why is it when we list outrageous intimidation tactics, we omit the White House 'Health Care Lies' snitch site? That remains their worst ploy.

Mystery Tramp| 10.23.09 @ 4:04PM

Mr. Hillyer-
Thanks for the outstanding summary of where we are. Obamacare is the centerpiece of this man's misguided agenda, and it must be defeated. Freedom-loving Americans must bond together to stop this insanity. Our government is out of control. Our grandchildren's future is at stake. I appreciate your insight.

Ned| 10.23.09 @ 4:29PM

It dawned on me the other day that we are probably safer from terrorist attacks now than we have been at any time in our past.
Any terrorist organization worth its salt would have the sense to just stand down and wait to see what is left over when our current bunch of leaders are done with their hope and change jihad.
They with their silly little bombs, death, and destruction are no match for the country destroying fools we now have in charge.
President Obama is possibly the most ravaging bomb Bill Ayers ever had a part in planting. It is our duty to defuse this explosion of overcooked fruit cakes by voting them all out of office at the first opportunity.

Wow, I am very moved by the very kind compliments in so many of the comments above. Thank you to all. And to Etiquette Man: Thanks, sir. I kept trying to insist that you misunderstood some of my earlier columns. My point was never to back down or to be soft, but just to recommend HOW to be tough in the most effective way. And when I wrote that Obama's political and positional strengths were considerable, I did not mean to scare conservatives off, but instead to make clear what it is we face so we can properly "gird our loins," as the old saying goes. Not that I am anything like Churchill, but the intent was the same: Churchill didn't promise walks in the park, but "blood, toil, tears and sweat." The idea was not to talk the English out of their task by saying it was hard, but to explain that because the task is hard they needed to be ready to be even tougher still. But never did he preach defeatism, and never did I intend to do that either. I am glad that this column was more effective at making clear that my message is one of fighting for the right, and of never giving in. If my earlier columns did not make that clear, even though I did put plenty of strong "fighting words in those earlier columns as well, then the fault is mine: mea culpa. Thanks for your comments.

Etiquette Man| 10.24.09 @ 12:55AM

Mr. Hillyer,

Glad to be on the same side with you on this.

Again, this is a simply excellent piece, in every way.

Ah, peace at last!

Etiquette Man| 10.24.09 @ 10:33AM

Hi Daisy,

Thrown any eggs (or was it rotten veggies) at any hippies lately?

I just LOVED that story . . .

(That WAS you, wasn't it, or are the little men in my head lying to me again???

Cheers!
EM

Daisy| 10.25.09 @ 3:10AM

Yes, that was me, Mr. Manners, (Just a little word play on your moniker there!). We threw tomatoes at those rioting hippy freaks, and when the cops started firing tear gas at them, we locked our dorm's doors so the hippies couldn't get in. Ha ha!

Tear gas is no joke; it made my allergies go crazy that day.

That was a miserable Spring quarter--those scuzzoids just trashed our beautiful Stanford campus. Ugh!

I loathe them still.

Just think, they're running our country now; God help us.

Bydand76| 10.23.09 @ 6:56PM

Well said, Mr. Hillyer!
I could'nt agree more!

Albert Springs| 10.23.09 @ 7:53PM

Quin: Good to see you are still writing and still in the fight. I use to read your column during the judicial filibuster wars of 2005-2008.

Fighting Obama won't be easy but we will never surrender. The first test will be Nov. 3rd. In NJ, VA, NY-23, and CA-10. Let's go four for four and send DC a strong message.

SandyC| 10.24.09 @ 10:10AM

Mr. Springs- Don't worry about VA, we have it wrapped up. Funny to see the Obamites already fighting and pointing fingers for the loser candidate (Deeds) that they have put before us. Usually this infighting and finger pointing starts after the election, not before. You couldn't buy this help for the Republicans in VA with a million dollars in campaign funds.

TParty4USA| 10.23.09 @ 8:00PM

Most excellent! Plenty of grievances, for sure.

Three more years to go, and he adds even more, almost daily. Good to keep a tally, with so many to recall. Accounting begins at New York's 23rd election, and for govs in VA and NJ. O-Care & ClapTrap must fail, too. Time is not on his side, as his failures pile up and his polls go down.

Bunker mentality already setting in -- and with only one network doing it's job. Just the start.

SandyC| 10.24.09 @ 10:15AM

Tparty4USA- Forget the three years bit. Next year when the House and Senate no longer have the majorities to pass their Progressive legislation, Obama will be a sitting Peacock, with all his plumage on display, but lacking any color. I suspect that is when the men in the white coats will pick him up, and deliver him to the institution.

Mary Louise| 10.23.09 @ 9:10PM

Finalmente, QH. Finalmente!

Before Amspec allowed comments I used to look for your posts. I remember one, in particular. The Marvelous Maverick had just announced that he would fire Chris Cox. You were on that immediately, and I was cheering. It was so good to read your defense of Mr. Cox, and it was equally good to see your lack of deference allowing, as it should, a view of McCain’s lack of honor. The next day or shortly after that McCain mumbled some sort of half-baked excuse/apology with nowhere near the affectation of his prior denunciation.

We need to know that you’re on our side. We need "lions in the pulpit and lambs in the confessional," so to speak.

The importance of health care legislation, as it relates to limited government and fiscal responsibility can’t be gainsaid. If they win, from there on in, we’ll always be debating on their terms, admitting and accepting their premises. Liberals know this, and that’s why this is hell or high-water time for them.

I think it’s really important for all of us not to alienate people of good will. This would exclude many followers of the liberal agenda, and all trolls, but there are people who are not plugged into conservatism [social or fiscal] yet live their lives, for the most part, as conservatives do. They may even be good and decent neighbors, and they are winnable to our cause.

Over at the Mises Institute, an online book titled A Man Alone argues that one of the strongest arguments of those who value freedom is "the insistent idea that human endeavor cannot be encompassed within any philosophy which divorces itself from reality, no matter whose it might be.”

The chapter on conservatives and libertarians begins with a wonderful quote. Name of author isn’t noted, and I haven’t finished the chapter so I don’t know if Mr. Roche lets on later on.

To tamper with man's freedom is not only to injure him, to degrade him; it is to change his nature, to render him, in so far as such oppression is exercised, incapable of improvement; it is to strip him of his resemblance to the Creator, to stifle within him the noble breath of life with which he was endowed at his creation.

Last thing; it would be great error not to understand this 50-year historic fall of Obama’s approval numbers. Rush played some audio today with Obama stumping for Deeds in VA. It was not really about Deeds though, and his call for action had a vulgar quality to it; a right Mountebank. Those who voted for him who are not part of the true believing squad aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet, and I think that speaks to their sense of fair play. But O’s ripe for a takedown. Whether that will do us any good is another question entirely. Rush says the public option will be included and I agree with him. I’m not sure if it will pass into legislation or not, but if does and we don’t repeal it, the irreversible damage has been done.

Margie| 10.23.09 @ 10:35PM

Reading this provoked more anger in me. It's so absolutely horrible. Why can't we impeach him? I mean isn't just one of the zillions of things he's doing impeachable? Why do we have to wait till 2012??? I am seriously asking the question.

Wesley Mouch| 10.24.09 @ 5:37AM

Daisy, you are perfectly correct, our current safety has been granted by George W, along with our smashing economic record for the last year & our stunning overseas victories. I frequently yearn for a time, when, a country such as ours, was ruled so well as, the last GOP administration. But, I can't elaborate, as I am on a Blackberry in a deer stand, & about to let the wind out of any four legged critter dumb enough to walk by. And speaking of dumb, anyone who thinks they can trade liberty for security has got another thing coming. You hear me neocons?

Nobama| 10.25.09 @ 3:49AM

Get off your high horse, dope; you don't know us from Adam.

Another imperious ass libertarian--can't stand you butt-munchers.

Margie| 10.24.09 @ 3:53PM

Mr. Moucher~ You remind me of my cousin. In fact, you remind me of a lot of people. They all sit back and mock (or try to) those of us who give a damn. I hope it's not your only source of fun. How's that free ride goin' for ya? Good, huh?

Wesley Mouch| 10.24.09 @ 4:19PM

Free ride. That's rich. You don't know me from Moses. If I didn't care I wouldn't risk the carpal tunnel syndrome typing these ridiculous rants trying to snap you guys out of this right vs left paradigm so many are married to. I mock you because you are playing into the strengths of those who feel they are entitled to rule us. I parody you because some of you cling to ideas which have been shown to be inconsistent with liberty & yet you claim to be patriots. I cajole you because I swore an oath to the most perfect political document ever created & that includes attacking domestic enemies of liberty. I fear we have the Republicrat party & government we deserve because of the previous silence of people like me. I know now that it is too late to make any difference other than to complain LOUDLY to those who should know better.

Margie| 10.24.09 @ 6:16PM

Free ride. Yes. Libertarians don't believe in going to war, right? So you get to sit back and troll conservative web sites mocking and etc. while our Military men are out there fighting and dying for us. It's such a 'comfortable' party to believe in.
~It IS a right vs. left world. If you believe in Utopia you're on the Left. That would include Libertarianism. In a real world you have to have laws. Laws are based on morals. The Founders were very wise. They said you couldn't keep a republic without a moral people. Which side are you on?

Wesley Mouch| 10.24.09 @ 4:30AM

Groupshoes, I must admit, your offer is appealing I have to be honest with you, I have had my eyes on the Dunk DB shoes for some time. I'm just so glad you could come to AS to tell us about it. As Churchill said about the English, "We have not journeyed across the centuries, across the oceans, across the mountains, across the prairies, because we are made of sugar candy."-- -Speech made to the Canadian Parliament, December 30, 1941. This sentiment is applicable to the United States and a Free People. Communists and Liberals, Gird thy Loins, if you can.

Mary Louise| 10.24.09 @ 9:40AM

WM reminded me of the time I went hunting pheasant with my boyfriend. I have no idea why he wanted me to tag along. He just said, "Punk, you're coming with me tomorrow." And he taught me how to clean a gullet. I still have those beautiful feathers, somewhere.

At 17 he took apart and rebuilt the engine of a '63 Sunbeam Alpine. He was a math head, in the top 10 of a class of 150, overall. He was a great second baseman. He tricked me into answering a question on Return of the Native incorrectly. I'd confessed to him that I hadn't read the chapters assigned: Hi! H're you? As Rush would say.

A few days later there he was sitting cross-legged (Native American and Irish, what a deadly combination!) on the little flat roof just outside my bedroom window. Getting there was such an act of athletic prowess that even my father, who uncovered the plot, had to comment on it before telling him to scram so he could have a little talk with his vagabonda innamorata . It's not like it is in the movies. Your father blames you for everything. He knows, and more importantly, he knows that you know.

I've been sitting on the Hoffman/Scozzafava fence. And I'm not even sure why. But I'm going to send him some money anyway because you need energetic conservatives inside.

Newt's support for Scozzafava doesn't surprise me. But Thaddeus McCotter's support for her does. His brief statement doesn't reveal a whole lot, just that speaking as a "51% republican we need to take this seat as republicans." He's a serious thinker and a sober man. I wish he would elaborate.

McCotter's not some great modernist hankering to synthesize heresies. In his interview with Peter Robinson (Uncommon Knowledge), he says that politics is the art of the possible. And I think he's right. Yet, IIRC, he voted against the first TARP and subsequent bailouts because he really did see that Bush and Obama were both sticking it to the little guy on behalf of the big guy, supposedly so well-educated yet still needing the collective power of the little guy to prevent him from being part of the bread line.

SoCon| 10.25.09 @ 3:32AM

NOOOOOOOO--Not McCotter!! I'll have to seriously rethink my adulation.

Mary Louise| 10.25.09 @ 10:24AM

Dear SoCon,

In spirit, I understand what you're saying, but I don't think you should do that.

I said that his statement didn't reveal a lot but that's not really accurate. He recognizes that he's a 51% Republican. It's possible that he won’t be reelected based on the unpopular (for his district) votes he cast against the first TARP and subsequent bailouts. He did the honorable thing. He acted against self-interest. He's no RINO, and it would be wrong to throw him overboard.

I'm enjoying a nice, homemade latte with a biscotti. I wish you and Etiquette Man and Daisy and Nick, and others I can't think of right now, could join me. We could all perfect our Photoshop skills using The One's logo: ridicule is so important.

What's even more important is thinking clearly and solidarity. Antle's thread on the Right's revolt is an ominous sign for us. We're really fractured. Some of it is absolutely unavoidable, but some of it is really blockheaded. I'm not referring to you, by the way. Your responses had some balance with the exception of your comment to Nick. His comment wasn't stupid, my friend.

I like you, and so I don't want this response to come off as harsh or hyper-critical, but through this response I'm trying to influence those reasonable souls who are right to reject those who would silence social conservatives, and those other reasonable souls who are right to reject those who treat Libertarians as pariahs. If you're a Palin fan, she needs both. To her credit, she seems to understand that.

The Constitution gets sidelined so easily. Unfortunately, if politics is the art of the possible then the Constitution isn't protected from the ravages of this. And, as paradoxical as it might seem, restoring respect for it can only be accomplished if you remain nimble. Entropy is nothing new or modern. You can achieve correction if you remain nimble and capable of responding. Bit by bit, if you have to. Going whole-hog or getting too rigid can often be a disadvantage.

Indulge me a bit more, SoCon, and I'll do my best to wrap up this long-winded post. If I could figure out how to reduce it, I would.

And speaking of the Constitution and the need for a moral people to uphold it. We’ve never been a moral people because there’s no such thing. Chattel slavery was immoral. But the price we paid to undo it redeemed us.

Jefferson thought slavery okay, but Hamilton didn’t. In order to prove he wasn’t an embezzler, Hamilton confessed to being an adulterer. It was unthinkable to him to allow the false charge to stand, so he paid the price. Adams didn’t have any slaves either, did he? I read that at times he would work alongside his field hands. A kind of Trajan with his agrarian troops.

I think it was Milton Friedman who wrote a paper on early Puritan settlers in which he noted that certain townships had to pass laws forcing Church attendance on Sundays. Evidently, these Puritans preferred sleeping in on Sundays and having a good time. My kind of sinners. :)

The call to be a moral people, like the Sermon on the Mount, is something you strive to achieve but most of us succeed in so small a measure that it’s something you have to try to live, and remain satisfied, for the most part, to let that do the preaching for you.

I hope a leader will emerge that can forge a coalition. I don’t think circumstances could be better for a qualified candidate to treat us to the truth, to guide us and to appeal to our better angels, across the board.

O’s base support will dry up too, if it already hasn’t. As Rush said, okay so you hate the rich, will that land you a job and another job after that, once you’ve gained knowledge and experience to move ahead? There’s only so much life in the kind of empty rhetoric that Obama peddles. It satisfies very few people, and even his own have to want something better for themselves than he's offering.

If I’m right, even his strengths will begin to work against him. His voice will go from resonant to annoying. His decent looks will have the effect of adding to his vapidity just because. Like a man who marries a woman strictly for looks, and marries her in haste. Within a year he begins to find her charms of no consequence whatsoever. Her internals have overtaken her externals. It was always just a matter of time before love of his minx turned to disgust.

Peace, SoCon and thanks for reading my rant.

SoCon| 10.25.09 @ 3:48PM

I understand what you're saying, Mary Louise, but I'm never in the tank for ANYBODY. I reserve the right to research further and make new judgments if necessary.

I like McCotter a lot, but I will hold --even him--accountable. sniff

Mary Louise| 10.25.09 @ 4:02PM

Fair enough, SoCon. Couldn't ask for a better response.

Dear All,

I think that we should encourage a better class of troll to frequent our board. Among all of the others, one stands out. I nominate (Ensign) Wesley (Crusher) Mouch as "Troll of the Month"!

My proposed certificate of merit (printed on eco-friendly single-ply toilet paper using you-know-what for ink) reads, in part, "For being only slighly more annoying than an abscessed tooth and significantly less so than S.L. Toddard."

Apparently, one of Scozzafava's selling points is her willingness to back Boehner (sp?) as House leader. But it was reported, relative to Rangel's ethics problem, that Boehner fears blowback becaue of his own difficulties with this line of questioning.

Mary Louise| 10.24.09 @ 12:02PM

Dear EM,

I can't second that just yet. To add to your comparison, WM isn't morose like SLT.

I think Sun Tzu essential here: "The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected."

What Paultards (I think that shows humility for WM's part) need to be clearer on is this: was 9/11 a blow and a wound to you and your Country, or do you think it merely condign? It's not an accusation, it's a means to help people determine if you're fit to be Commander-in-Chief.

IMO, Rand or anyone in his mold has to make this clear.

Oh, and while it's manifestly true that nominating an old, yellow-toothed coot like McCain for the presidency was just asking to be beaten like a dog, same holds true for Ron Paul. He cuts an unattractive figure. He's a pointy-chinned scold. You're not going anywhere with such a candidate.

Etiquette Man| 10.24.09 @ 10:40PM

Hey ML,

No argument from me on Ron Paul. If he would just stop talking about anything other than the limits of Constitutionally authority and the budget, he would be great. Unfortunately, he his statements in other areas are just plain loopy.

I hope someone else will give me a second for WM. I like him, even though he called me a Chucklehead.

Or maybe BECAUSE he called me a Chucklehead.

Besides, if he's a hunter, he can't be all bad. He's the first troll I actually like having around.

Cheers!
EM

Mary Louise| 10.25.09 @ 10:37AM

EM,

I like him too.

First of all he took me back to a time of goodness and innocence, and that's always pleasant.

Secondly, some of the points he makes have merit. Plus, he said he took an oath to defend the Constitution, so it's likely he was a soldier. I have an awful hard time exiling a brave heart.

That said, I'm all for hammering trolls. So do keep that up, and do post more often on serious threads. We need more people like you to help keep us together.

Take care.

P.S. Even though I'm scared to death of guns, the hunters I've known have been good men.

Wesley Mouch| 10.24.09 @ 12:26PM

That was a frustrating morning. Scope was hopelessly fogged & had to let 'em walk away.

Paul may be old but he is consistent & speaks the truth. He is the most honest man in Congress by anyone's reckoning. He is the biggest pain in the ass to neocons & banksters that I have ever seen. I hope it's genetic & Rand can carry on for all of us.

Let me clear. The neocons were given a chance & they BLEW IT. It is a failed ideology right up there with Leninism & why anyone would continue to support ANY tenets of neoconservatism I will never understand. I will parody it, ridicule it, mock it until it is extinct or until I am dead. This is the sort of wacko you have on your hands. My hope is that Obama will do to the Democrats what El Presidente Jorge did to the Republicans so that the Republicrats will all disappear & make room for parties responsive to the people, especially the middle class. When you dream, you gotta dream BIG.

Now after that rant, I need a nap to prepare for this evening's hunting. Bring on the ridicule, no promises about a response though.

Etiquette Man| 10.24.09 @ 10:46PM

Hey Ensign Crusher,

I don't think you'll find any neocons here, so you're preaching to the choir.

We were screaming as loudly as anyone about Dubya's profligacy; the MSM meme that only now are we speaking up is simply a lie.

Just because King George II was a lousy domestic President (though, I maintain, an outstanding one in other areas, especially the WOT) doesn't mean that a Paulbot response is the correct one. It's a false choice.

Good luck tonight tracking, shooting, gutting, and eating Bambi. Veggie-lovin' bastard's got it comin'. Probably a demonrat.

;-)

Duh...try iron sights knucklehead. I use iron sights even for elk, but you gotta' be in the same county with 'em.
For whitetail deer, I generally use a recurve bow and Bear razor-heads. Course you gotta'... or at least I gotta' ... be within 30 yards and on the ground with 'em. Gotta have the sun and the wind on my side as well. Fascinating hunting experiences.... and of course the steaks and sausage are great.

Mary Louise| 10.24.09 @ 2:26PM

He is the most honest man in Congress by anyone's reckoning.

You're full of reminders. This time, Mark Twain.

And speaking of going to Heaven for the climate and Hell for the company, I'm not sure if Congress, as the only native, criminal class can even get into Hell. So measuring Paul by this standard is close to no standard at all.

You might just get the cannibalism you're after, but the only way you're going to get parties "responsive to the people" is to read about them in fiction.

Social security isn't going away any time soon. Ditto for Medicare, parts A-D. You're going to have admit to the need to protect the Country against terrorists, and that can mean going after them where they're plotting against you.

Rand can exist in a particular place, but if he has any national ambition, he'll have to concede all of these things, and more.

You won't get the Country you're after. We're not merely 50 disparate States going about our affairs. Any moves to get us back to that have to be taken openly, honestly and slowly.

If Wahabbists blow a Mall up in New York, Oklahoma has to care.

Would that the bastards would just release. The lack of their regard for women is one of the sources of their dementia.

Mr. Hillyer,
Of late, I’ve been feeling hopeless; the waft of sulfurous poison gas spewing from the District of Columbia burning my eyes, ears, nose and throat. I’ve been feeling like Donald Fagan:
“It’s not the same, the rules have changed,
It’s all new players in a whole new ballgame…
I know what happens, I read the book,
I believe I just got The Goodbye Look.”
But thanks to you and most of these responders, I feel better.

Louis Jenkins| 10.24.09 @ 5:37PM

The earthly Messiah may fail on his domestic agenda, but there's more than a fly in the ointment. Britain's Lord Monckton's address to an American audience (in Texas this week, I think) on the great global warming swindle. I picked this up off another website, so I hope they don't mind.

Here's a partial transcript:

***
...And what are we doing instead? At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen, this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed. Your president will sign it. Most of the third world countries will sign it, because they think they’re going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regime from the European Union will rubber stamp it. Virtually nobody won’t sign it.

I read that treaty. And what it says is this, that a world government is going to be created. The word “government” actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. The second purpose is the transfer of wealth from the countries of the West to third world countries, in satisfaction of what is called, coyly, “climate debt” – because we’ve been burning CO2 and they haven’t. We’ve been screwing up the climate and they haven’t. And the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.

How many of you think that the word “election” or “democracy” or “vote” or “ballot” occurs anywhere in the 200 pages of that treaty? Quite right, it doesn’t appear once. So, at last, the communists who piled out of the Berlin Wall and into the environmental movement, who took over Greenpeace so that my friends who funded it left within a year, because [the communists] captured it – Now the apotheosis as at hand. They are about to impose a communist world government on the world. You have a president who has very strong sympathies with that point of view. He’s going to sign it. He’ll sign anything. He’s a Nobel Peace Prize [winner]; of course he’ll sign it.

[laughter]

And the trouble is this; if that treaty is signed, if your Constitution says that it takes precedence over your Constitution (sic), and you can’t resign from that treaty unless you get agreement from all the other state parties – And because you’ll be the biggest paying country, they’re not going to let you out of it.

So, thank you, America. You were the beacon of freedom to the world. It is a privilege merely to stand on this soil of freedom while it is still free. But, in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy, and your humanity away forever. And neither you nor any subsequent government you may elect will have any power whatsoever to take it back. That is how serious it is. I’ve read the treaty. I’ve seen this stuff about [world] government and climate debt and enforcement. They are going to do this to you whether you like it or not.

But I think it is here, here in your great nation, which I so love and I so admire – it is here that perhaps, at this eleventh hour, at the fifty-ninth minute and fifty-ninth second, you will rise up and you will stop your president from signing that dreadful treaty, that purposeless treaty. For there is no problem with climate and, even if there were, an economic treaty does nothing to [help] it.

So I end by saying to you the words that Winston Churchill addressed to your president in the darkest hour before the dawn of freedom in the Second World War. He quoted from your great poet Longfellow:

Sail on, O Ship of State!
Sail on, O Union, strong and great!
Humanity with all its fears,
With all the hopes of future years,
Is hanging breathless on thy fate!

Whether Deflation or Inflation, Things Are Going to Change [View article] Mr. Disconnect,

My investing plan for the $20,000: I would get a GMAT study manual ($50), and practice grammar (I clearly need it) and the other topics on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). I would sit for the exam ($200), and do the best I could.

With a decent GMAT score in hand, I would research my heritage and find someone in my family who attended a top 10 MBA program. Also, I would try to find some element of my heritage that would allow me preferential treatment. I would than apply to the top 10 programs, highlighting my GMAT score, my legacy status, and my 1/18th ethnic advantage ($1,000 application fees). There may need to be a kickback to one of the programs as well ($5,000), and judging by the ethical behavior of the graduates from the top programs in the last 5 years, this strategy is wholly in play. I would be accepted.

Next, I would borrow all of the funds for my MBA ($80,000). While getting my MBA, I would drink ($10,000), and discuss Keynesian and Austrian economics in the bars for two years. I graduate with a newly minted MBA. My emphasis: financial products and financial engineering. I would write a paper on how to sell complex debt products to government entities.

Siting my fine academic work, I would get a top management job on wall street. I would never really work again, and would focus on really sticking it to the taxpayer. I would rightfully be rewarded. I would pay off all of my debts, and live well beyond my means generating new debts. Eventually, I would be fired, and I would take my huge severance package to the islands for mai tai's. Return on investment: 10,000,000%

Going back to bucolic times and remembering cards and letters addressing me as Punk caused me to web surf and find the Conservative Punk website. It’s well done, well-informed, like any self- respecting Punk would have it:

At Conservative punk, our mission is simple:

1. To try and inform the young voters of today that identify themselves with the punk scene with the facts, rather than rumor and conspiracy theory.

2. To stretch their political minds by exposing other political ideas outside the usual bi-partisan arena and making them think about what else may be out there (aside from what is heard, read and seen in various forms of media).

3. To provide a forum for nearly all walks of the political spectrum in that their voices, concerns and questions may be presented and subsequently addressed.

4. To encourage today’s younger, burgeoning generation to register to vote and become engaged in politics.

5. To encourage the young voters to draw their own conclusions rather than indoctrinate them to a certain way of thinking (i.e. not buying in to being so close-minded that all your problems are blamed on a single politician or candidate, not becoming a mindless coalition of lost hope based on what others try to jam into your head, etc).

6. To try and bring to light societal issues which are of concern and have consequences to an entire nation, not an individual.

7. To try and nurture the importance of individuality, personal liberties, freedom and civil rights all the while maintaining the importance of teamwork.

8. To try and foil myths surrounding the United States military and the freedoms it protects.

9. To focus on the future of this nation rather than lag behind and wallow in pity when things don’t go your way.

Lastly, a great song for Punk Loving men the world over.

Damn, I love life! Cheers to you, Mary Louise.

He was fine. He was smart, good-looking and my first love. At 5'10 and 135 pounds, he could do anything. :) If I should have married anyone, I should have married him.

He loved my family, probably more than he loved me. Not because we were perfect, but because we were so imperfect and still we stayed together.

As the only girl, you have to assert yourself. :) It was always a test of wills between me and my father. My brothers just watched.

I love my dad. He only weighs 106 pounds now. He's so frail, and he used to be so strong.

I think I'm his favorite because of, and not despite, the upheaval I wrought. That part of my makeup is from his side of the family. He understood that volatility.

SoCon, if you're ever in upstate NY -Buffalo or Rochester, dinner and drinks are on me.

Oh Crap..

what about, The Who? Rush? and Led Zepplin?

SoCon| 10.25.09 @ 11:34PM

Yeah, I'm a girl and I love strong, conservative men--got a problem with it? Just teasing.

Mozart to Metallica: I love it all, (well, MOST of it!).

I loved The Who, Led Zepplin gave me horrible headaches, I don't know much about Rush (the band, that is) and I'm a Metallica fiend.

I love all kinds of music--even some Hip Hop (because of my son) is great. 'Lil Wayne looks freakish, is thuggish, but I think he's talented; Akon and Kanye (I know he's a major azz) make some great music, too.

I said a lot and don't know why. Who are your favorites?

Bydand76| 10.26.09 @ 8:48PM

Well SoCon

I am a wierdo too in the respect that I do not limit myself to one single Genre or style of music.

I am also a musician so I wrap myself in many different blankets and forms (Percussion) but I tend to find myself more attracted to the technical and difficult aspects of music more so than bubble gum pop. LOL

I listen to bands like Rush, Meshuggah, Lamb Of God, Deftones, Atreyu, Mettalica (old) Arch Enemy, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Killswitch Engage, System of a Down, Rage against the Machine, Static X, and I could keep going here but it would get fairly long.

I Like some country and some Hip Hop as well but I find the styles to be to redundant and stuck in a rut.
I really like dance music and trance house type stuff but just cuz its fun to listen/dance to and of course I listen to Classical music as well.

I like Old style Blues and Jazz as well but not to where that is all I listen to.

Like I said I am kind of a odd duck when it comes to music

It should be astounding, shouldn't it, that in less than a year Obama's true colors have come into such sharp focus in so many varied shades? It should be, but it isn't given how much was known before the election.

But, with a free press now moved to venues like this the war for freedom can still be won.

The money quote:

"Senate Banking Committee Chairman Barney Frank, a longtime co-sponsor of single-payer legislation, said in July, 'I think the best way we're gonna get single-payer, the only way, is to have a public option and demonstrate its strength and its power.' Why not just enact single-payer? 'We don't have the votes for it,' Frank replied."

And focus like a laser: Courageous American attorneys are, in the spirit many of our founding fathers, engaged in pursuit of Barak Obama's proof of eligibility to warm the President's chair.
