Obama the Destroyer

Change we should be afraid of.

If somebody were deliberately trying to undermine the very fabric of these United States, he would first vow not just to change its policies but to completely “change America,” and then would do just about everything Barack Obama already has begun to do as president.

To undermine this nation, he would attack the essential sanctity of contracts — exactly as Obama has done. Never mind the “contracts” clause of the Constitution — who needs to get hung up on the Constitution’s actual language when “empathy” is more important?

For that matter, he would denigrate the whole notion of equal justice under the law by criticizing the whole notion of a judge as a neutral umpire. And he would employ, as a senator, outrageous and unprecedented means — the filibusters of judicial nominees — to block judges who don’t agree with his own choices of who deserves more “justice” than whom.

To undermine this nation, he would selectively release only those portions of intelligence memos that make his nation look bad, but not those that provide context and reasonable motivations for the subject of the memos. And he would selectively edit memos from his own intelligence director to eliminate his statements in support of the effectiveness of the policies discussed in those other memos — and his statements supporting the motives of those who adopted those policies in protection of their fellow citizens. And he would leave open the possibility of prosecuting earlier administration’s lawyers merely for giving legal advice he disagrees with.

To undermine this nation, a president would go on a spending binge so incredibly wild that annual deficits and national debt would reach frightening proportions before most Americans could even absorb the arithmetic of it all. He would be utterly reckless with our grandchildren’s tax money, but would turn around and achieve savings — minor savings at that — only by cutting or even gutting defense forces.

He would stop paying for missile defenses. He would stop planning for forces strong enough to handle two regional wars at once, and would concentrate only on counterinsurgency needs while hollowing out our conventional forces. He would repeatedly insult our closest ally (Great Britain) while kowtowing to enemies such as Iran, Venezuela, and Nicaraguan communists. He would travel the world repeatedly apologizing for supposed American sins while failing to defend the USA from verbal assaults from tinpot dictators.

He would submit budgets that would eliminate funding for an already authorized border fence, and nominate as top lawyer of the State Department a man who openly mocks the legal underpinnings of American sovereignty.  He would propose raising taxes on corporations, on soft drinks, on investors, on savers, on the grieving families of dead people, on small businesses, and on every family that uses public energy sources.

And worst of all, he would propose unprecedented and underhanded use of a parliamentary maneuver called “reconciliation” to ease the way to an irrevocable government takeover of an entire major sector of the economy — health care — without adequate debate and with firm knowledge that the takeover could lead to serious health care rationing and even government-determined decisions on life and death.

To undermine this nation, he would throw out more than two centuries of economic freedom in favor of a modern-day version of Mussolini’s economic fascism.

He would refuse to prosecute vote fraud or even guard against it, while repeatedly awarding financial grants to organizations such as ACORN that have been accused of vote fraud on multiple occasions in multiple states. He would stack his Justice Department with highly politicized left-wingers. He would fail, until put directly on the spot, to offer the slightest rebuke to his hand-picked, ethically compromised Attorney General when said AG calls his fellow citizens “a nation of cowards.”

In short, to undermine the United States, the president would, as fast as possible, create a massively debt-ridden, tax-ridden, regulation-ridden government whose prosecutors play political favorites but whose stances on the world stage are marked by weakness, self-criticism, and solicitousness towards one’s enemies.

Surely this president has other motives. But even if his intentions are good, we all know the substance of the pavement on the road to perdition.

He would be so woefully inexperienced and uneducated in anything but the more manipulative facets of lawyerhood, untempered by any knowledge of history that extends beyond the Sixties in either direction, and would combine the demeanour and demagoguery (and the unshakeable certainty) of a University sophomore in a big school, who has been voted Most Popular in his small town high school and who struts onto the larger stage a perfect foil for people who have a wider and more cynical sense of the world and need a Potemkin President as plausible cover.

When the world collapses in ruins, he will stand in the ruins in shock, with no idea what to do or how to do it -- and when he realizes that there is nobody to blame for him, and that he is the one to blame for everybody else, he will suffer such a collapse that even the MSM will not be able to find any way to whirl, spin, conceal, evade and ignore Humpty Dumptys Great Fall.

And the next round of Kingmakers will say, *Yeah, we had a guy from the hood once. Remember how that worked out?*

GranTorino| 5.15.09 @ 6:36AM

No seems to get it yet. Barack Obama has no positive emotional link to the USA: his father was a foreigner and his mother couldn't wait to live abroad. He has no sense of history or what the US has achieved over its 200 years of undisputed democracy (he has said he doesn't understand our "special relationship" with Britain; he doesn't understand American "exceptionalism"--you need to bone up on US history to even know what those terms refer to).

My feeling is he'd actually like to trash the US, be the One who brought the mighty monster to its knees, make it take its rightful place among those shameful nations of the world who indulged in colonialism, imperialism, slave trade and oppression.

His nose-thumbing at nearly everyone and everything is accomplished because he can get away with murder right now: snog America's sworn enemies, snub the Queen of England, take over the auto industry à la Mussolini, decide on executive pay at private institutions--he could probably barbecue Bo in the Rose Garden and the media would allow as, well, Bo did wee on Barry's new Blackberry, after all...

David Mathews | 5.15.09 @ 7:03AM

Quin's article is excellent! I love the sound of bitter conservative loser crybabies in the morning.

Look, people, you lost for a reason. What's the reason? Because your ideas failed.

You are an politically irrelevant extremist minority for a reason. Why is that the case? Because the American people have rejected your ideas.

So keep on crying, conservatives!

brassia| 10.14.10 @ 11:04PM

Hey, David.
Is that the only progressive line you memorized?
You are couple years late...in case you didn't notice that line was used BEFORE the trillion dollar stimulas, the HC and financial reform, the 14 trillion dollars debt, the over10% unemployment and rising, the highest amount of people on welfare and food stamps, the drop of the market from over 14 ,000 to barely holding onto above 10,000.
You want to know who lost? LOOK on the mirror!!! , the scariest thing is you are uncapable of any thinking efforts and still have the right to vote.!!!!

David Mathews | 5.15.09 @ 7:05AM

Hello GranTorino,

* "American "exceptionalism"

American exceptionalism is pure bunk. Always has been, always will be. American exceptionalism is a delusion of the conservatives.

El Rey| 5.15.09 @ 7:14AM

Absloutely right.

B. Hussein Obama is more a Third World, America-hater than he is a true citizen of this great and exceptionally good country.

That someone as flawed as Obama ever got elected is a tribute to power of the brainwashing & dumbing down efforts of the government schools [i.e., public education].

Kitty| 5.15.09 @ 7:22AM

I'll remind the site trolls here, who are drunk on schadenfreude, that they will be subjected to the same laws and regulations as everyone else. They'll lose their freedoms, too. The fact that they voted for BO will award them no favors, no special status.

...

Melvin| 5.15.09 @ 7:30AM

Barrack Obama will destroy this country as Robert Mugabe destroyed Zimbabwe.

GranTorino| 5.15.09 @ 7:35AM

Obama is not programmed to apologize for himself, so forget that scenario. He is, after all, Perfect in Every Way. He hasn't yet learned that being Prezzie means taking responsibility, something as a "present" voter he has never had to face.

I do wonder about health care rationing: isn't this a nifty way to get rid of Republicans (are you reading this David Mathews or whoever you are?)! Just put them on the list of no care now, later, or better, deny care on the grounds their lives aren't worth the expense, and wait till they simply die off--surely the HC folks can get their hands on voter registration records, no?

David Mathews | 5.15.09 @ 7:40AM

Hello Stu,

* "Of course you don't agree with Mr. Hillyer you are an America hating Alinskyite/Obamaite. "

Boo hoo hoo ... the conservatives are such whiny sore losers it really is amusing.

I'd take an Alinsky over that oxycontin addicted blowhard radio shock jock any day. Alinsky didn't kill the Democratic party but Rush Limbaugh and his uneducated dittoheads are killing the Republican party.

As the conservatives become more irrelevant they whine incessantly about their unhappiness. Too bad, conservatives. You lost. Get over it.

David Mathews | 5.15.09 @ 7:43AM

Conservatives really are stupid. There isn't any need to get rid of the Republicans because the Republican party has decides to destroy itself by catering to its uneducated extremists.

A party run by Rush Limbaugh is dead already.

David Mathews | 5.15.09 @ 7:44AM

Hello Melvin,

* "Barrack Obama will destroy this country as Robert Mugabe destroyed Zimbabwe. "

George W. Bush already destroyed America. This is one of the reasons why your side lost in 2006 and 2008.

Conservatives ran out of ideas a long time ago.

Darin| 5.15.09 @ 8:19AM

Hi David Mathews,
I assume you do not live in America, correct? If you do, you're a hypocrite (enjoying the benefits while trashing how they're obtained).

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 8:26AM

Dave, you go girl!

Yeah, conservative losers, Dave and I have energy today! Our drug dealer made bail! Woo hoo! Praise Allah! Your tax dollars at work, SUCKUHS!

Dave and I haven't felt this good since we caught that slow-running Cub Scout at the NAMBLA sleepover!

Who knew there was a merit badge for sodomy?

Yeah, you losers don't understand that our time has finally come. New ideas? HAH! We don't need new ideas on our side. Know why? Because the oppressive, murderous and poverty-inducing policies that have failed in every single country on this planet since our "new ideas" were born over 100 years ago are REALLY GONNA WORK THIS TIME now that the Big O has descended from the heavens.

The rise of the nihilists is nigh!!! Quake before Dave and me, you puny conservatives who think you have a right to your own lives, your own money and your own opinions!

You're gonna see things our way and if you don't, we're gonna smash every one of you idiot conservatives and your loser values and take your stuff! KNEEL BEFORE DAVE AN ME! SEIG HEIL! THE STATE IS ALL, AND OBAMA IS THE STATE!

We're already being fitted for our jack boots. Can I just tell you they are to die for? I can't wait to see what they look like with some gorgeous 20-year old girl ground under the heel.

The best part? The black uniform makes Dave's butt look smaller. Doesn't it?

LONG LIVE THE STATE! OBAMA IS THE STATE! LONG LIVE OBAMA!

Good to see David Mathews escaped from the mental institution and is back with us today. I wonder where his lover jharp is hiding these days?

David Mathews,

Maybe you should get out a little more, develope some other interests. Perhaps see a priest or minister about what is really bothering you.

Otis, my man!| 5.15.09 @ 8:38AM

Davey boy, if you were so sure that Conservatism was dead, you wouldn't be posting your tripe at this website. I mean, why bother?

jim rice| 5.15.09 @ 8:39AM

It's so funny that, if you don't believe in "Conservative" ideas then, by any account, you must want to destroy America.

The fact that America can be changed and can move forward is what makes this country great. Not some specific set of ideas that cater to less than half the country.

America should be a country ruled by Law tempered and guided by logic and reason. If a law is unfair, there is recourse to change that law. george bush already destroyed the most important pillars of the greatness of America by choosing to simply ignore the rule of Law. While you might not like or agree with the economic policies of our current President, just b/c something isn't going your way doesn't mean that the country is being destroyed.

You sound like all the old rednecks in tiny backwood towns who complain every time something changes that their feeble narrow-mindedness simply can't comprehend.

Michael L. Hauschild| 5.15.09 @ 8:44AM

The party of slavery, Jim Crow, and “stealing more chain than he could swim with,” (read Grand Master Byrd [KKK], is in a dilemma. Change and hope has evolved from the consensus candidate of perceived white guilt and honest black inspiration into a Tommy Lee Jones Batman inspired nightmare. Polarization is about to occur. All those new voter registration cards are not vouchers, sticker shock in the form of increased consumer taxes and inflation are coming and soon. The alienation of the “sweet talked” elements of President Obama’s constituency is inevitable. Hosting his tri-color banner, red (Alyinsky), black (just the ones under the bus) and white (partisan beltway democrats) in place of Old Glory was delusional at best and egotistical at worst. Most of us here no matter what party, gender, sexual persuasion, or age are Americans first. Nearly everyone, at least of those I know, realize that all the freedoms we enjoy are due to our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and the capitalistic system.

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 8:47AM

Hey, you'll have to excuse Dave. He's busy. Apparently, human torsos begin to decompose faster in the springtime. He's gotta rearrange the freezer.

Anyhoo, Dave and I were just noodling the new world order - you know, what ministry Obama will put us in charge of. Dave is leaning toward Ministry of Diversity Enforcment, but I'm leaning toward Ministry of Ideological Purity. More kneecaps to crack!

Either way, we both agree: There's nothing like the sound of skulls shattering and bodies dropping into mass graves to lift our spirits. Sometimes, when Dave is feeling down, he slaughters a family of four (or so). Picks him right up!

Know what was great about the Nazis? There were so many great things, but Dave's and my favorite is this: All those degenerates, whom any sane society would have ostracised, get to run the government!!!!

How great is that? I can't wait till we receive our hollow-point bullets and Obama gives us the "go ahead."

stu.b.con| 5.15.09 @ 8:51AM

davey, davey thanks for not disappointing. You really are the dumbest bastard on the planet, keep up the good work!!!

Jack | 5.15.09 @ 9:22AM

This is what will bring him down. Even those liberal grandmothers in Vermont will remember how their fathers and uncles fought for this country.
As long as truthtellers remain in possession of their pages (nexy to be regulated?) these facts will be understood by larger and larger shares of the population. When it hits critical mass, he will become very ugly.
This is why they are so nrevous about the tea parties. They are the vehicle on which this issue will ride.
Imagine Chicago of '68 with gray hairs opposing police barricades. Once the questioning becomes too severe for him to handle-jackbooted Janet will be on the way.

Louis Jenkins| 5.15.09 @ 9:34AM

It’s time for DM to trash GW. Although GW pushed the envelope with his “passionate conservatism” he did not exterminate or vanquish the producers of our nation with Mugabe’s tin horn methods. He did not turn this nation into a beggar’s corner even considering NAFTA, which was not his program to begin with. Yeah, I’ve got issues with the former “conservative president.” BUT, Mugabe redistributed the wealth (where have we heard that before?) of the former breadbasket of Africa and turned it into a backwater do nothing nation. Yes, the descendants of the original inhabitants of Zimbabwe are back on their land, but they’re eating dirt and subsisting on handouts. How do you like your dirt served up?

“Barrack Obama will destroy this country as Robert Mugabe destroyed Zimbabwe.” Obama is doing what he was trained to do and he has nothing invested in this nation. He and his cronies have instituted a blitzkrieg on the United States and its way of life.

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 9:42AM

This is embarrassing, folks. Normally I am the true Dave persona. You know, the hateful bully that lies just beneath the snarky liberal mask of "I CARE."

But because the meth is wearing off, Davey's abandoned me. Look at him. Laying onthe couch drooling with his and in his shorts. WAKE UP, Dave! The fun's only begun!

Dave, dave, come out and play
So many skulls to crack today!

Hello?

Davey, you need to go back and walk on the beach and ponder the millions of shaades of blue you love...
Try to get the anger back under control man... you will live longer and enjoy life more...

Ken in Baltimore| 5.15.09 @ 9:54AM

No, no, Dave is not the dumbest bastard on Earth.

In fact, I think he is quite clever.

It's obvious that he is some kind of plant, maybe by the looney left to get us riled up, or maybe even by some not so honorable members of our own party. This is not without precedent.

I remember several years ago that bastion of fair and unbiased thinking, Larry King, saying on the air that Rush Limbaugh was a Democratic moll, put out there to espouse conservative ideals that, to the looney left, made no sense.

Clearly, since David Mathews makes no sense, he must be a Republican moll!

What I think he is is a lonely, unhappy person, stuck living in his parents' basement, flipping between TAS and various porn sites, hoping that someone, ANYONE in real life will pay him a little attention. Failing that, he delights in all the attention he gets from his enemies on TAS. It makes his day and in fact, he is probably pleasuring himself as we speak(no one else will do it for him; it's likely the one area in which he takes total personal responsibility.)

I'm not your enemy, Dave. I truly feel sorry for you. And as I go about my day and the other people here go about their days making this country run, and as you sit at home waiting and hoping for some gesture of human contact other than your own or your mother's, I pray for you. I really do.

I say, for your therapy to succeed, we ignore you, make you aware that right thinking, successful Americans do not have the time or temerity to deal with such obvious nonsense.

I'm sorry Dave, that's the way it has to be.

Old Texican| 5.15.09 @ 10:22AM

Quin
Thank you again. If we just keep writing and speaking the unvarnished truth in every venue we can access, then we still have a shot at stopping the underminer in chief. I especially enjoyed your summation:
""In short, to undermine the United States, the president would, as fast as possible, create a massively debt-ridden, tax-ridden, regulation-ridden government whose prosecutors play political favorites but whose stances on the world stage are marked by weakness, self-criticism, and solicitousness towards one's enemies""

You know, I can sincerely appreciate the imbecilic losers Mr O has suckered into his cause. They are certainly losers in a society built on merit and ethics and ideals. Each of those ilk MUST have a re-shuffling of the deck to ever move out of momma's house or the hood.

What I have a tough time understanding is how all of O's fat-cat celebutards and some corrupt Wall street types think they are going to duck the consequences of his underminings. His policies are surely going to amputate their feet, right after ours.
Finally, a serious question: What types of legal "peaceful citizen non compliance" should we consider...right now? (Heh! senior moment. What was the phrase describing Martin Luther King's...ah ha! "peaceful civil disobedience")

Dustoff| 5.15.09 @ 10:23AM

You really want gov run health care. Well then see this from Canada...

The Royal Alexandra Hospital will cancel 15 per cent of elective surgeries after receiving a directive from Alberta Health Services to cut costs.

It's a move that will increase patient waiting times for surgeries such as knee and hip replacements, plus cataract removal.

Other hospitals in the region could face similar cost-reduction measures.

"I can't say there won't be surgical reductions at other facilities," said Rob Stevenson, spokesman for the health region's Edmonton area.

Doctor Right| 5.15.09 @ 10:25AM

Golly, I can't WAIT for the inevitable backlash against the left!!

It's going to come, and sooner than most of the moonbats think, too!

You can call it a "Conservative" backlash, or a "Right-wing" backlash, or whatever...But it'sw coming...

It's going to drop like a hammer on all the losers (meaning "leftists") who've been systematically attempting to destroy this country since the early 1960's.

The American people (the "real" Americans) are finally getting an eyeful of what the left has in store for our country, and they don't like it.

We're about to see a real class revolt in the USA, but it will be a revolt of the "Producing Class" against the "Freeloading class"...And the Freeloaders will FINALLY be outta' luck.

The cost of Obama's idiotic, childish policies have already alienated a substantial portion of people who supported him last fall, despite these fantasy polls of >60% approval. When the blue-collar middle class realizes they're being soaked for non-hacking, freeloading, lazy, worthless welfare chiselers, illegal aliens, and other deadbeats who comprise the liberal-left constituency, they're not going to be happy about it.

And the best thing? The utter destruction of the left will be swift, methodical, and LEGAL. We will use all of the executive authority precedents being established by Obama and his cohorts against the left...

In other words...We will hunt you bastards down in your spider holes, and you will be made to pay.

It's gonna' be fun! It's goona be sweet! And it's coming soon...

Dustoff| 5.15.09 @ 10:27AM

Porr DM won't like this on GW. Granted he'll dismiss this like everything thing else. But I so enjoy watching him spin every GW story that doesn't fit his (narrow) view on GW.

Mike| 5.15.09 @ 10:43AM

Mr. Hillyer:
What does Mr. Obama's desire to seat a judge with "empathy" have to do with sanctity of contracts? I suspect any empathetic jurist would also understand contract law.

Judge as neutral umpire? Come on. You really mean an ideological justice in the vein of Scalia and Thomas.

Spending binge. How can any conservative talk about a spending binge after having remained so respectfully quiet during the Bush years. Besides, wasn't it Dick Cheney who said deficits don't matter.

Concerning military spending: Rumsfeld and Gates both have acknowledged that military spending is unfocused and out of control. Have you ever seen a military boondoogle you don't like?

Immigration: I hate to have to tutor you in basic economics, but the drugs and illegals that are "invading" our country from the south are due to demand, our demand for drugs and cheap labor.

Prosecutors playing political favorites: You mean like the ones in the Alberto Gonzalez led DOJ?

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 10:43AM

Since Davey's left me to my own devices, I shall be serious a moment and wonder with you, Old Texican as to how "O's fat-cat celebutards and some corrupt Wall street types think they are going to duck the consequences of his underminings."

I don't get why the filthy rich in this country - most of whom are DEMOCRATS, by the way, don't realize they are in Obama's crosshairs.

To co-opt (and rewrite a tad) the famous poem:
"First they came for the Christians and I did not speak up because I wasn't a Christian. Then they came for the conservatives and I did not speak up because I wasn't a conservative. Then they came for the wealth producers and I did not speak up because I wasn't a wealth producer. And then they came for me.

And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

And if Nazi Germany isn't an apt analogy for the thuggery of Obama and his goons, perhaps the Reign of Terror is.

[Egon is running tests on Louis, who has been possessed by Gozer and is now the Keymaster]
Dr. Egon Spengler: Vinz, you said before you were waiting for a sign. What sign are you waiting for?
Louis: Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

Good thoughts. My primary hopes are based upon a couple of things. Neither the German people nor the French people had EVER had freedom or much opportunity to contrast with the empty evils they were embracing.
Also, they were disarmed.
Today I discovered we won a (little) battle. 66 Senators voted down keeping guns off government managed land.
In my mind, the true gorilla in the room is the fact of the 80 million gun owners in the US.
Its sorta' like lots of nukes. By having them, one raises the "possibility" of a last ditch position that cannot be defeated. If Mao was right, and true power does in fact come from the barrel of a gun,
(ahem).
I personally believe the tea-parties were the first forerunners of the coming storm. No administration has experienced such an outpouring of Nays from the real people of the country like we experienced April 15.

Heh! We certainly showed our rookie status in these sorts of things. Our messages were delightfully muddled and diverse, but the reality is that the messages were sent.
Remarkably, the messages were as a rule quite friendly...as in "friendly warning". Even the crowd control cops were having a good time.

Here in Houston, on Memorial day, I am staging my own tea party, even if I am all alone. I'm going to take a Texas flag to our Veterans cemetery, and quietly thank the loved ones for their service.
UNLESS...someone here can think of a better venue here in Houston.

ds80| 5.15.09 @ 12:05PM

Mike: "Spending binge. How can any conservative talk about a spending binge after having remained so respectfully quiet during the Bush years. "

Boys and girls, Lesson #1: the above is an example of the aphorism: "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Conservatives were the LOUDEST voices railing against Bush's overspending.

Using the same pea-brained discourse as Mike, we can say things like:

"How can Hilary Clinton be Secretary of State when she was convicted of cattle futures trading fraud and served time for the contract murder of Vince Foster?

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 12:09PM

David Matthews. The only thing that is "bunk" about American exceptionalism would be to include people like YOU in the conversation about it. Glad to see that you've never thought your country was exceptional. Hell, even the everyday Iranian has more pride in their Persian heritage than you seem to have for your American heritage. You, and your compatriot or alter ego Thomas Paine are what the REAL Paine calls "sunshine patriots." Those type of people disgust me.

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier & the sunshine patriot will, in crisis, shrink from any service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love of man & woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed, is so celestial an article as Freedom should not be highly rated."...Thomas Paine

Not only does this describe what wretches people like you are, but it also is from one of the first pamphlets of it's kind to espouse such notions as individual freedoms & the defense of them. If that's not "American exceptionalism," I don't know what is. As I said before though, I do know what ISN'T exceptional about this country. People who are as abjectly dumb as you.

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 12:13PM

Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama -- all puppets for the super wealthy and powerful banking cartel playing one "side" against the other while their globalist agenda is advanced.

don't believe it? then continue to purchase the lies fed to us by the FED while our liberties continue to be flushed down the toilet.

however, if you are among the Americans who are waking up, visit www.GiveMeLiberty.org to discover how the Federal Government continues to ignore the rule of law.

the country of "America" might be already fallen, but that doesn't mean We the People have given in to tyranny...

LIBERTY WILL PREVAIL!

This is some great stuff...but I haven't heard mention yet about the Messiah throwing himself under the bus this morning. He came out and basically said the policies he's instituted are not sustainable and we are sacrificing our grandchildren's future. Sounds like he's laying the groungwork for those massive tax increases (and yes, Dave, that will include you and your butt buddies).

It was once said: "A twenty year old that's not a liberal, has no heart; A forty year old that's not a Conservative, has no brain!" Wonder how that works; because as you learn about life and the sacrifices you need to make to succeed, you realize that most of those that have never moved up the chain have not put in the effort it takes to be successful. As you become enlightened about this truth, you feel less apt to have Government take form you to give to others. Don't get me wrong; Charity is a good thing. A hand out for lazy ass people is not. Let me choose whom gets my charitable givings.

To All [especially Dave]: There was once a brash, intelligent, handsome, wealthy, war-veteraned, Catholic, extremely liberal, thick-mained, congressman who wowed his base, made members of the female sex irratatically [sexually] delirious, was heretically adept in the ways of TV appearance, and who trojun-horsed his way into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave as President. He proposed much liberal legislation and made many a mistake as Commander-in-Chief and as top administrative public official of the US, all to the programmed forgetfulness and undying devotion of his leftist menion base [least they forget, the MSM was there to remind them in brainwashing fashion]. He too desired to turn this country on its traditional ear and CHANGE its workings. He and his younger brother [nepotistically crowned as Attorney General by his older-brother-in-charge] burned an admistrative path to hell and back; and made many, many enemies in the process. Their father was fired and called home [as Ambassador] in disgrace from England for playing footsy with one Adolph Hitler of Europe's Germany, when same was fine-tuning his war machine to eventually attempt an overrun of Europe and a corresponding extermination of six million human beings. These two young liberal WORLD leaders were in the epitome of their political careers, blazing away full blast, when DISASTER struct [seperate instances], and the fantacy of their existance came to a screaching halt. The leftist-loons to this day tell their children and grandchildren [and anyone else who will ignorantly listen to them] mystical tales of these glorious times [in their opinions], but the bottom line, DAVE, is that it [and they] ended, so enjoy your insane hysteria while you can! As to Quin's typically brilliant [and accurate] article, it's possibly [psychologically] soothing to write, blog, argue, etc about what is happening now with Obama and crew; but the fact remains that we/America allowed this to happen; and complaining now is too late. The time to stop Obama was 11/4/08, not NOW. The bright spot is that there are now underpinnings of discontent among Americans [many of whom voted for him] with the realization of Barry-the-Liberal----Jews are concerned with his support of Muslim countries instead of Israel; the business community are fearful of his tax and regulation extremism; and physicians are upset over his welfaric (and extremely costly to the medical community) healthcare policies. The HOPE for us is that 2010 and 2012 represent a time of CHANGE [through voting]. I plan on [and I hope normal Americans will do likewise] voting for any competing conservative Republican candidates when they run against incumbent, long tenured [in bed with Barry] Republican congressmen. This is a great time for Republicans [conservatives] to overthrow these Benedict Arnold type, power hungary deadheads in DC. The only tea party that truly counts is inside a polling booth, and I intend to take full advantage of that opportunity. I will vote for any candidate that is a proven conservative, and against any moderate [aka Obama bed buddy] and [of course] any and all liberals; and I hope you normal Americans will do likewise!!!!!

Louis Jenkins| 5.15.09 @ 1:38PM

Ghostbusters-how cute! In urban circles a SLOR is an over the top slut. Gratification at the spur of moment in other words, ie, those who voted for hope and change last year, are slathering and licking their chops, and anticipating the “Sharing of the Wealth” for their SLOR like activities. The Demon GOZER, aka a Demon Traveler, the Big Guy, also most like our current top man who has traveled and lived in many different lands, exhibits distain for his alleged home country, and wriggles in excitement while contemplating the rape and death of the “Great Society.” EGON-a man of high intelligence (much like GOZER), scientist, who collects mold, spores and stuff (H1N1), and reminiscent of a new presidential cabinet whose knowledge, judgment, and vision surpasses any of the accepted norms that have made this nation exceptional, including the revered documents that were written two hundred and thirty years ago by founding fathers. Yes, the new administration is much like watching that old Ghostbusters movie featuring ghosts, demons, and goblins with liberal persuasions.
Yea, admittedly, I am haunted by the past. I sat in a bar in 1976 discussing politics with a man from Rhodesia. Remember 1976? Conservatism was on the ropes then. He predicted the future for his country and it didn’t include references to Ghostbusters. It took twenty plus odd years, but his predictions came to pass. They now call it Zimbabwe. GOZER won that one.

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 3:17PM

Sadly, Jim Rice is right. I wouldn't agree with his assessment of Bush - after all, his domestic spending should have thrilled Dems.

Nor do I, personally, find Obama charismatic. I find all of that cool insoucience way too studied. The man is a humorless, intellectually incurious cipher and a poser And those are his good points.

But how McCain got nominated is a mystery for the ages (although it pleased so many who insisted Republicans go with a "moderate"). He's a vain, mercurial, blustery little non-entity. Kind of like Al Gore. Or Arlen. Or Biden. Or Pelosi. Or Reid.

If the media and self-congratulatory liberals don't make Obama the new Il Duce, maybe conservatives will get another whack at it. Let's pray that it ain't Jeb Bush.

Tom Paine| 5.15.09 @ 3:22PM

All this honking and braying is foolishness.

Obama is not "radical" in the least. He is a textbook liberal. He is to the Democratic party when Reagan was to the Republican party.

We're not used to presidents who embody the values of their parties so perfectly: most American presidents are weird amalgamations. Obama is not a socialist, nor is he a fascist or terrorist. Or whatever else you flat-earthers are trying to claim he is. He's just a liberal. He believes in government spending to stimulate the economy and offset the harsher consequences of market downturns. It's simple. You don't have to agree with him, but at least understand what he is.

On the whole, Nixon -- domestically at least -- was probably not much more conservative than Obama.

All this talk about Obama wanting to destroy America is absurd. The author of the piece above is a jackass, and most of the posts written in response are foolish.

ben| 5.15.09 @ 3:23PM

Obama is doing exactly what he set out to do, and that is to tear down the foundations of our society and culture in order to rebuild it from a Black Centered point of view. Liberation Theology claims that our society and culture are racist towards Black Americans simply because Black Americans were not part of writing our constitution, the foundation of our society and Culture. Black Liberation Theology was taught by Reverand Wright at United Trinity Church of Christ. People say Obama's a Christian, but if his church preaches that there is no eternal salvation, no heaven and no hell, no soul and that Jesus Christ was an average man who fought for the liberation of the poor and oppressed minorities (a community organizer) then how can anybody call Obama Christian? Obama even wrote in "Audacity of Hope" that "racism is endemic to white people". How wonderful and rightous he is by broadly painting a whole race of people in denigrating colors. Isn't his comment itself racist? And wouldn't someone making bland generalizations about a race of people simply to denigrate them be a racist. Obama is destroying American because he thinks it's the just thing to do. Obama has bought into the false claim that he has been persecuted or oppressed because of his race. This is the same half-Black man who grew up in a middle class home. Got an Ivy League education. Ran for and was elected to office. Wrote 2 books and became a millionaire. I suppose that if it wasn't for our racist constitution, society and culture , Obama would've already become Emperor of the Universe or God himself..

MAJ Arkay| 5.15.09 @ 3:31PM

I'm not seeing the comparison between Obama and Mussolini.

Mussolini appropriated the railway, "but he made the trains run on time."

Obama appropriated Chrysler and handed it over to the UAW. I see Chrysler's imminent demise, not improvement.

Note to self: sell Jeep. Quick.

Tom Paine| 5.15.09 @ 3:37PM

Hillyer's attempt to paint Obama as Hitler or Mussolini is simply stupid. It betrays a shameful ignorance about 20th century history as well as a complete misunderstanding of what's going on in the world today.

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 3:40PM

Just when you thought the liberal digestive tract was spent for the day, out pops another turd.

Yeah, Obama's a classic liberal. A classic "thug from Chicago" liberal. A classic "all of the money made in this country belongs to government" liberal. A classic "I never saw a government program that shouldn't be grown (except the military)" liberal. A classic "I never met a tin-horn dictator I didn't want to emulate" liberal. A classic "I'm gonna force private companies to do what I want them to do" liberal. A classic "ignore the lessons of history" liberal. A classic "We're gonna shove universal healthcare own your throats no matter how many people suffer from it" liberal. A classic "Affirmative Action" liberal.

As for the comment about Nixon, who cares? Is that supposed to make us shudder? Nixon was a liberal and a lousy president. So? Is that supposed to justify liberalism? There are degrees, after all, and Obama is the MOST liberal president we've ever elected.

Oh, he's a classic alright. And his greatest hits are coming to a paycheck near you.

VibrioCocci| 5.15.09 @ 3:44PM

Tom Paine:
"Obama is not "radical" in the least. He is a textbook liberal ... He's just a liberal."

I agree with your thought that he is just liberal, but he's not a classic liberal ( which more closely resembles conservatism by stressing individual freedom, free markets, and limited government.). He is Progressive. He does not believe in the Constitution. As a Progressive, he believes that individuals are not born with rights, rather, the state (government) issues those rights to us.

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 3:46PM

Ok everyone! Time to stop commenting. Tom Paine in the Arse has just told us that the article is dumb, as are most of our comments. You got us, Tom. We'll shut up now. Idiot.

While YOU may be willfully ignorant to the socialist indoctrination of the pretender in the White House, some of us aren't as easily swayed. His Mom was a committed socialist, his Dad was a militant African Muslim who also tried to implement Communism in Kenya, his childhood mentor was admitted member of the American Communist Party & admitted pee pee toucher (kiddie molester) Frank Marshall Davis. His college records are sealed, so we can't see what wonderful papers the "smartest President ever" wrote. His Angela Davis wannabe wife brought him to the Marxist/anti Semite Rev. Wrong's church, where he sat & lapped up the Marxist dogma veiled under the guise of religion to indoctrinate the dumb amongst the congregation. His good buddies, Ayers & Dorn were violent anti American, pro communist TERRORISTS. And the OTHER mild mannered English professor who's an Obama buddy? None other than avowed Israel & Jew hater, Rashid Khalidi. The Khalidis & the Obama were ALSO dinner buddies. Obama used to let this terrorist sympathizing swine babysit his kids.

So please, don't try to pitch that fart in a gale about how "Obama really doesn't want to destroy the country." Everything in his life points to the fact that he's a dyed in the wool Marxist with a racial chip on his sleeve. If you believe that these associations are meaningless, then, if you have kids, I feel sorry for you. I feel sorry for you because you'll be the one who sees his kids hanging out with the wrong crowd, bury your head in the sand & say to yourself, as you apparently have in the case of your President's past associations, "oh, this doesn't matter. I know MY kid won't turn into one of THOSE kids, won't do this, that, or the other." Then, when your kid turns out to be a world class screwup due to the influences of his questionable friends, you'll be the first to cry, "How'd this HAPPEN?" And all the while, you can blame the same type of willful ignorance that won't allow you to see things for what they are. Good luck, Sunshine Patriot.

PS. If Hillyer's such a "jackass," then why read his column? Masochistic much?

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 3:51PM

The Elephant| 5.15.09 @ 4:11PM

What a foolish item. Chrysler is bankrupt, and when companies go bankrupt the creditors fight over the scraps. The provider of debtor-in-possession financing tries to get everyone to agree before it goes to the judge, to speed things along. If they can't agree, the judge does it and it takes longer. In bankruptcy, contracts are voided. There's nothing new about the Chrysler bankruptcy.

Reconciliation has been used frequently in both Republican and Democratic administrations. Whoever is out of power complains about it.

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 4:15PM

Maybe Tom needs to go back to the kiddie pool over at the Flushington Post or the Daily Krap. 1) Dailykos and Moveon.org have infected these conversations.
2) The empty suit, our Abu Hussein from Kenya, the Community Organizer-in-Chief, is introducing measures that will guarantee the perpetual power for our commie-socialists. When 50%+ of the people are on the dole, and 15% are working for the government and are also union members - that is their recipe. It is enough to remember that the word "soviet" in the name of the defunct USSR (Thanks - RR!) means in translation "community organization". That was the basic invention of Lenin, now refined by the Obama's teachers Davis and Alinsky. ACORN brownshirts working for Obama are getting $9 billions (that's $9,000,000,000) in the stimulus bill to refine their voter frauds, plus more billions to conduct the 2010 census. There is no difference among Obama, Lenin, Hitler, Mussolini in their methods - I should know; I lived under both Hitler and Stalin; my uncles lived under Mussolini; and now again, I am living under Abu Hussein.

Isn't it funny how the "progressive", "compassionate", "nurturing" Libs get bent out of shape when the object of their adoration is criticized? That is a *hallmark* of personality worship ... hence the ever increasing reference to the "cult of Obama".

Bush was no conservative. Conservatives stuck with him because he got at least 2 things right: he defended the country and he defended the unborn. Libs *continue* to seethe with hatred for him because defending America and defending the unborn are two of their most grievous mortal sins.

Oh, good grief. Clearly you know nothing about the Contracts Clause! It's might be too deep to go into - but even lay sites like findlaw have analysis on it. And Obama is not interested in prosecuting the Bush administration. Too bad you fell for that. I do not like Obama, but I have misrepresentations more.

Thanks, Navy Brat.

First off, "yea right" makes a point that's worth picking up on - Obama's corruption. Because he IS corrupt; notice how he and his princess wife live like KINGS. Obama is ALL about a sense of entitlement (and like all liberals, he is an utter hypocrite).

Michelle has said that loves having attendants hovering around her, she loves her $540 shoes, loved her $300,000 a year sinecure at the U of C Hospital (where, ironically, her job - such as it was - was to turn away patients who couldn't pay and make it look like the hospital was doing it for their own good). Obama's sending his kids to Sidwell Friends while he takes school choice away from black kids who might some day turn away from the government teat, god forbid.

And I didn't notice Obama give the proceeds from his two "books" to charity. And He Who Denigrates Self Interest Above All Else seemed to take advantage of some shady real estate deals that benefited only him - and if running for president as an unqualified, narcissistic, inexperience, ignorant, angry, resentful, racist community organizer ain't selfishness, I'd like to know what is.

You know, its the coalescence of all of these elements - the rise of Obama, the institutionally sanctioned hatred coming out of the environmentalists, the heterophobes, the unions, the feminists, etc., the ever-growing liberal activism from the courts, the arrogation of power at local and state levels, the abject prostration of all the media before the God of Self Gratification (as long as you wear the "I Care About the Victims of Evil White Men and Other Capitalists" mask, you can screw - and screw over - whoever you want!) - it is the coalescence of all of this corrosive, destrucive, nihilistic energy that is so depressing. And so many craven Republicans (like Nixon!) go along to get along. They're rolling over on health care even as we speak.

And once Obama's got his talons in that, the other two legs of his stool of permanent tyranny - control of energy and the subjugation of education - will be in reach. And then he'll make Mussolini like like a piker.

I used to be all for tolerance. But the left doesn't want to merely win; they want to demolish the institutions that have created American Exceptionalism.
Now the angry, insensate mob is at America's front door.

I sure hope we wake up before it's too late.

NavyBrat| 5.15.09 @ 4:50PM

innerchild. I think we've got our own mob, ready to form at the front door of Congress next year. The antics of Botox-gate, along with all of the other capers of the majority, will lead to it's undoing next year. This will make SOME of what the Great Pretender wants to accomplish slightly more difficult.

Have a good weekend, yall!!! It's Pacifico beer, BBQ, & Marshall Tucker Band time for me!!! Take it light!

Hey,
Sooner or later, this country has to accept its mistakes as a nation and as a people. If Americans think they are too powerful, too rich, too advanced and too democratic to have made mistakes, then they have a very short memory. As an example,Iraq was invaded based on an incorrect (deliberate) report. Mighty empires before America (forget the democracy mumbo-jumbo America is still an empire) collapsed for being too pumpous, too assuming.

dave mathewsinnerchild| 5.15.09 @ 7:12PM

That's, right Sarki: We're bad. We've misbehaved and we're a bad, bad country. We must all immediately report to our local mosques and prostrate ourselves before the machete of the nearest Muslim - whose reason for living is, guess what?

Establishing an empire.

Tom Paine said: "But exactly what spending do they advocate cutting? "

How about stop spending tax-payer money on Democratic Party contributors, such as ACORN (under indictment in numerous states), the UAW (primary owner of Chrysler, soon to be the same with GM)?

How about $350 billion off the stimulus bill (the Republicans proposed about $440 bilion instead of $787 billion). Even if they didn't save th $17 billion that 0bama did, we'd still be $330 billion ahead.

And now we learn that by targeting "shovel-ready projects", the "stimulus" is actually ignoring the worse-off areas of the country, because they were so bad off they did not authorize any projects, so they didn't HAVE any "shovel-ready projects".

During the election cycle, when people complained about how much money Bush was spending, my main retort was "just thank God that the Dems aren't in power, they would spend twice as much". So who set the record for the largest deficit ever, by a factor of 4 over Bush's worst deficit? I'll give you 3 guesses on that one.

And you know, when was the last time anyone mentioned drilling for domestic oil reserves? Not a Democrat, that's for sure, except to say "No, we aren't going to do that".

Yeah, 0bama is doing a good job so far. Let's hope we can make it to 2012 so we can vote his butt out of office.

Simon| 5.15.09 @ 11:38PM

Tom Paine: no one here is defending Republicans. It's not about party politics.

Enough strawmen.

As another poster already said, there isn't enough taxpayer money, even if you confiscate every penny owned by every American to pay for all this spending and promised spending.

When everyone is broke and we are knee deep in hyperinflation, blind loyalty to political parties like you have won't amount to jack.

But you go ahead and espouse some more anti-Republican wisdom.

That's just what we need. More claptrap that adds exactly zero to this discussion.

It is depressing to see such an accumulation of denigration without a minimal analysis of the causes for the present worldwide crisis and of those responsible in the first place : the GOP. The USA have a moral obligation to reform their system in order ro prevent similar crisis from happening again. Omaba may have committed errors, but compared with the GOP, his policy is reasonable, he should be supported. He is trying to rebuild a nation that has been ransacked during decades. Making such comments is completely unappropriate. Use your intelligence to make constructive contributions, otherwise don't write.

Sorry, Jim
I just get annoyed when grownups write like nasty ignorant children, when serious things are happening in the real world.
I do agree with Quin that Obama has an agenda that bodes very ill for my hard working children and grand kids.
One of our stockholders said something quite astutely the other day: "We simply must keep close our canary in our coal mine".
Thinking about it further, I wrote back to him and suggested that there a number of "canaries" we should be watching closely:
1.Decisions handed down from Obama's Supreme court
2. The inevitable terrorist attacks invited by O
3. A total breakdown of confidence in our government's insane economic acts
4. Censoring of talk radio and the internet
5. Rationing of healthcare to "O believers"
6. Forcing Doctors/ hospitals to perform abortions on demand
7. Patterns of our children being turned into snitches
8. Working Americans going into "survival mode"

There are many more, but you get the drift.
A while back, a good friend who lives and works in NY City told me the number of "food trucks" coming in per day to feed the city. I have forgotten the number of THOUSANDS, BUT IT WAS A LOT.
What if those truckers parked their trucks?
Picture the numberless similar "bottlenecks" in our country.
So see, Jim, with all the above as a genuine backdrop, I simply become annoyed with straw men, and nit-picking, and finger pointing. Then I feel a responsibility to de-bunk self deceptions.

Murphy, clearly your elevator does NOT go completely to the top-----General Motors CEO was FORCED to resign[since the government now/will shortly own 60% of its stock]; the CEO of Citibank will no doubt be forced to resign in the next month [the government now owns 30%+ of its stock] and the CEO of Bank of America likewise will be gone in a month [the government also owns a hughe chunk of its stock]. And you do not consider this GOVERNMENT/OBAMA TAKEOVER [what the hell are you smoking]????????????

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 1:39PM

Oldefarte --

You cite one fact and then offer suppositions and opinions.

The CEO of G.M. was forced to resign before the company borrowed billions in tax payer money. It was an unusual move, but it does not constitute Obama "taking over" G.M. Quite the opposite.

The rest of your post is incoherent nonsense.

Old Texican --

So ... do you dispute the basic facts I provide or not?

Simply claiming all news is false is strange, since presumably you base your own positions on information you receive in the media.

I think even if you rely on Fox News alone you can have heard nothing other than what I reported above.

The facts are these:

Obama has not taken over any businesses.

Obama intends to take over no business.

Obama has not taken over G.M., Chrysler, or any bank.

The federal government has loaned these companies money, just like it loans a 17 year old kid money to go to college. There's no difference.

All of these effusions and feelings and all of this bathos is very fascinating indeed, but it doesn't add up to much. You have no evidence to back up your claims. Like I said, it's difficult to take you guys seriously.

Simon| 5.17.09 @ 2:41PM

No, Obama didn't "take over" Chrysler. And yet, he has dicated to them how they will spend their money (i.e., cutting advertising).

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/12/report-obama-administration-slashes-chrysler-ad-budget-by-50/

Simon| 5.17.09 @ 3:02PM

"The federal government has loaned these companies money, just like it loans a 17 year old kid money to go to college. There's no difference. "

This is seriously one of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. Trully remarkable.

The Obama administration bullied secured creditors into accepting 30 cents on the dollar and gave his buddies in the UAW (who also gave him millions in political donations) the prime cuts even though they were junior creditors.

Rule of law (i.e., enforceability of contracts)? We don't need no steenking rule of law!

I swear if Mussolini was around and he had a "D" after his name, he'd be fine with you people.

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 3:20PM

Simon --

The federal government does get to dictate how money it loans a company will be spent. I can't take out a school loan to open a business.

You use the word "bullied," but really all Obama did was insist that your tax dollars were not wasted on what was essentially a threat of price-gauging.

Tax dollars are sometimes spent well making these kinds of loans, but it is entirely appropriate for the government to say how they're spent.

You have to remember that all of these companies have been incredibly mismanaged, and they were (in addition) part of a systemic failure of financial markets. Clearly their is a legitimate interest in the government seeing to it that the money it lends these companies has its intended effect -- particularly because the tax payers are going to want that money repaid.

Calling Democrats fascists -- or whatever -- may be fun, but it isn't substantial argument.

For that, you need facts and a much better understanding of what's going on than you have.

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 3:22PM

price gouging ... not "price gauging"

my bad

Simon| 5.17.09 @ 3:47PM

"you need facts and a much better understanding of what's going on than you have. "

Ok. Can you help me out? Did Obama or did he not strongly urge (i.e., bully) secured creditors into taking a horrible deal despite the contract they had with Chrysler while also giving the UAW, who were junior creditors a deal that was twice as good?

Why don't you educate me on why that was done?

Once you're done raveling yourself into a semantic pretzel as you have been, why don't you explain to me why anyone would ever invest in these companies again knowing that Obama can simply re-write the contracts in such a way to negate any possibility of investors actually making money?

Don't bother answering that last question -- clearly the Obama adminstration doesn't give a damn if anyone ever invests in those companies again.

I'd explain why to you but clearly you have no intention of trying to understand what motivates statists.

Simon| 5.17.09 @ 4:10PM

BTW,

you said, "The federal government does get to dictate how money it loans a company will be spent."

Thanks for finally admitting that, yes, the adiminstration took over Chrysler.

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 4:22PM

Simon --

Just because the government can dictate how money it loans can be spent does not mean it has "taken over" any company. Your assertion is simply illogical.

Your other point is similarly confused. These companies are borrowing money from the government. The government does get a say in how the money it lends them is spent. What part of this don't you understand?

As to your speculations about Obama's dark, secret "statist" conspiracy, you're right -- I don't have any interest in them and I don't give them any weight.

Simon,

Lastly.....

About the creditors: you have to remember that this sort of thing goes on in any bankruptcy. The government's actions with respect to Chrysler are just not all that unusual.

I do remember listening to Limbaugh going on about this at rather puzzling length a couple weeks ago. I assume you listened to that program and have absorbed his excessive indignation over this unsurprising and fairly uncontroversial issue.

Maybe you should just calm down and read a newspaper or something.

Old Texican| 5.17.09 @ 5:04PM

Murphy
If you simply cannot understand the words "take over", please allow me to clarify.
No, we don't expect Mr. Obama to put on a GM hat and sit in Detroit issuing orders to the secretaries.
What we mean is that the Executive branch of our federal government has taken over "de-facto corporate governance" of both GM and Chrysler. See, in corporate terms the Board of directors has that role voted to them by the stockholders....uh not the Union of laborers. See, the proletariat governing the means of production is a communist invention.
If you cannot connect those very simple two dots, then it is of no use discussing this with you further.
Ah OK, look I will try one more time: If Obama sends someone to unhook your computer, and entrusts your mama with limiting your access in the future, has he in fact "taken over" your personal business?

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 5:24PM

Old Texican --

The fact is that market failures have led to something very near a depression. (By "depression" I mean widespread systemic failures in more than one sector of the economy.)

Government intervention was going to happen no matter which party was in office. What Obama is doing is a fairly unsurprising response to a very surprising and unusual economic crisis.

If these businesses didn't want government intervention, they should have reigned in their insane borrowing and lending practices 5 years ago (if not 10).

Now, they're stuck. The government will help them out, but the government wants to make sure they don't squander its aid the same way they squandered everything else.

Why is any of this a problem?

Bill Bailey| 5.17.09 @ 6:03PM

The Obama Nation is quickly becoming an abomination. It's a grotesque perversion of the philosophy upon which this country's founders built our great nation. What makes him so dangerous is that he is a youthful prodigy - an uncanny master, almost a Pied Piper of sorts, of demagogic rhetoric and scapegoating (think Wall Street big shots, big banks, drug companies, student loan companies etc…) His prowess in this regard reminds me of another infamous demagogue who got the great unwashed masses to follow him like a flock of mesmerized sheep to tragic consequences. Anybody know who I'm talking about? Anybody?

If he was a baseball player jacked up on steroids they would probably nick name him A-Hit.
But since he was a fascist jacked up on amphetamine let's just call him Adolph Hitler.
For the Obama supporters who don't understand a word of what they just read:
Don't ask questions. Just follow the person in front of you into the shower and don't worry about a thing. Barack says it's OK so it must be so.

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 6:22PM

O.K. I give up. Does anyone here have anything interesting to say.

Aside from Mr. Bailey's stirring argument that Obama is in fact Adolph Hitler, I don't see anyone offering anything interesting or out of the ordinary.

Bill Bailey, you are a coward and a fool, but reading your posts at least is amusing.

I thought the American Spectator was the home of real conservatism. Seems like just a bunch of gas bags and whimps to me.

Old Texican| 5.17.09 @ 6:39PM

Murphy, Thank you
By changing the entire thesis of the discussion here, you have indeed finally connected the dots.
I am delighted.
The reason "this is a problem" is that the only people being helped are the people who want total power over our lives. The Union workers are not helped, the investors are not helped, the would-be GM car buyers/owners are not helped.

Bill Bailey
Thank you. I have gone beyond frightened. I have now settled in on "determination". I shall continue to try to save the occasional American from their foolishness and ignorance, but not at the expense of our American experiment and our children's future in freedom.
Yeah...when one is free...sometimes one fails. Then you just get up, dust yourself off...and get smarter.
We Americans are not ignorant Russian peasants.
We read history, and some of us even understand past mistakes.
Hunker down, Sir, and pick your battles carefully.
Best regards

Perhaps liberty

Nick| 5.17.09 @ 6:46PM

Murphy,

You are either a sophmoric simpleton or a propagandist. A willfully ignorant, useful idiot who swallows everthing the MSM spoonfeeds you or an Alinskyite spewing lies.

Murphy| 5.17.09 @ 6:49PM

Any chance you can quit the "useful idiot" cliche? It's so overused, worn-out, shallow, and boring.

Now. What "lies" have I spewed? Can you point to anything I've said and maintain I was lying?

Jim| 5.17.09 @ 6:51PM

Mr Murphy-Mathews;

Please explain what Obama is thinking as he lectures us on the evils of credit card debt ("not real money") and simultaneously unleashes unprecedented levels of federal spending/borrowing (presumably real money?).

Nick| 5.17.09 @ 7:33PM

Murphy,

It is interesting that you dismiss the useful idiot choice out of hand. If one is an idiot, if one is so ignorant of basic facts (like being shown over and over by others how B.O. is controlling car companies and banks), then how would one know that they are an idiot? How does one know he is living in a fantasy world of his own making?

But if one does know, he is just a propagandist repeating the same lies over and over.

Hugh| 5.17.09 @ 7:48PM

This is symptomatic of why so much of the world is up the creek. Everything is driven by an utter inability on the part of those in charge to distinguish, even vaguely, between what matters and what doesn't.

There is a sort of upside-down pyramid of folly. The higher you get, the bigger the fools, the more unable they are to tell right from wrong, the more disastrous the consequences and the more those below – “us folks” - suffer.

Thus, if you let a man run finances (B H Obama, President, Fuckwits Anonymous) who can't understand that spending more money than you have is stupid, well, you end up working like a dog for the next 20 years subsidizing that one man's stupidity. And pay him a lifetime pension after he stole yours.

Reading the comments one would be well aware that those on the left do little if any research. Those on the left that do the work tend to be blind ideologues with communist agendas. They also have a tactics manual written by the likes of Alinsky, Hoffman and Gramsci. Some of them seem to know nothing of the content but are familiar with the slogans.
They are also keenly aware that Government is an institution of power and that the role of democracy is the submission to the state as run by the left. The ultimate goal is the elimination of all opposed to the all powerful state as run by the socialists either national or international.

Sandra| 5.17.09 @ 11:48PM

The Word of God is foolish to those that are perishing; and taking the life of the unborn is murder and breaks the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill." There is no compromise.
"Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Jesus is Lord! And those who promote and choose abortion will fall upon that rock. And those who choose life and believe and receive the Son of God will experience life, and life and death can not coexist. President Obama: The gulf between abortion and life can only be bridged at the Cross of Christ. Christians are commanded to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Not all who call themselves Christians belong to Christ. I hope you experience a rebirth into Christ. It is better to obey God and partake of His nature through His promises than to walk as a King within a culture of death that will perish naturally outside of God's will. Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build. President Obama: Don't walk on holy ground. Don't target the unborn. Don't speak as darkness in the form of light. We are not fooled by false words of common ground when there is no common ground. There is only the truth of God's Word - in Christ. And, God knows the inner thoughts and motives and, will judge unrighteousness according to His holiness and standards. I would rather hope and trust and obey God. The change our country needs is from the culture of death to one of life. It is a heart change that is needed, and, I hope you experience that change. How the angels in heaven would rejoice! I pray in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ that God will bless you, President Obama, and move in your life for good. I dare not imagine what God has in store for those that promote the killing of innocent unborn children. There is forgiveness at the Cross of Christ - to those who receive that gift of God. Those not covered by the Blood of the Sacrifice of Christ will fall upon that rock. He will judge.

Daisy| 5.18.09 @ 3:05AM

Oh, most certainly, He will judge. God have mercy on our souls. Amen.

Murphy, your statement ["The CEO of G.M. was forced to resign before the company borrowed billions in tax payer money. It was an unusual move, but it does not constitute Obama "taking over" G.M. Quite the opposite"] is a complete falsehood and a lie, which is typical modus opperende for a liberal. GM, along with the major banks, was given government funds BEFORE, not AFTER, their CEO was forced out by Obama; and he was forced out since he refused to comply with Obama's demands regarding the downsizing of GM. Some of these corporations that borrowed money from Obama's Gestapo have attempted to pay back same and their requests have been denied, so that Heil Hitler Obama can maintain financial control over their decisionss and policies going forward. GM's CEO should have been fired by GM's stockholders or board of directors, not by some COMMUNITY ORGANIZER beholden to Acorn, Jeremiah Wright and Jesse Jackson. Why would Obama/government force him out BEFORE [not AFTER] they gave GM the money----that makes about as much sense as A SCREEN DOOR IN A SUBMARINE, moron? You're obviously an ignorant fool and/or stupid when it comes to business activities, and are no doubt some LIBERAL ARTS major that attended some socialist-brainwashing university, have a ELECTRIC SHOCK DOWN YOUR LEG-OBAMA-SUPPORTER, and who worships at the altar of Barry, Emmanuel, and the rest of his socialist clan. Don't be so imbicilic as to try and tell me things that I know from experience [35 years] and daily reading of business journals, fool!!!!!

Hey David Matthews,
All you liberal Commies who voted for Obama are the ones whose ideas have ALWAYS failed everywhere they've been tried. You CANNOT tell me where socialism has ever worked because IT NEVER HAS. So keep deluding yourselves into thinking more government control is the answer. You'll wake up the day after election day 2010 and find yourselves out of power. The same thing will happen in 2012.

And to answer the question canuck just posed, the answer is Kenya. Which proves the point that Obama is not eligible to serve as president, which also makes him the biggest fraud this country has ever seen and his very presidency the biggest slap in the face to and the shredding of the Constitution. But liberals can't read the Constitution anyway, so what do they care?

Stephanie| 5.18.09 @ 1:12PM

And yes, Matthews, there is such a thing as American exceptionalism. The only people who don't think so are America-loathing, freedom hating liberals like you and your boy Hussein. Obama and his wife BOTH hate this country and I for one wish all of you slithering snakes would pack up and get your ass out of this country.

Murphy -- I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I read about the Obama's thuggish behavior in the Wall Street Journal (I'll await your all important verdict as to whether the WSJ passes your own personal legitimacy test), Business Insider, and other places.

It's very easy and convenient to simply tell people with differing views than your own that they are uninformed. It's also very intellectually lazy.

The fact of the matter is that what they did is not consistent with bankruptcy law as you suggested. Perhaps you are the one who do a bit of reading?

I suspect that your daily reading likely consists of Daily Kos, Huffington, and perhaps now and then branching out to Paul Begala if he has column up at CNN?

Very diverse indeed.

Anyway, if you want to educate yourself a bit you should try reading Mike Shedlock's daily postings on global economics. Mish was a big Obama supporter prior to the election. However, he is intellectually honest enough to understand the short and long-term implications of Obama's economic and financial policies.

For example: http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2009/05/if-youre-not-petrified-of-obama-youre.html

I understand that it is difficult when reality slaps you in the face. In fact, many of us conservative can empathize as many of us supported Bush initially and were horrified with such policies as prescription drugs and TARP.

But we are also principled and intellectually honest enough to cite those weaknesses and areas of disagreement.

ps: it will be interesting to see how the likes of you try to spin when Obama proclaims that basket cases like California, Mass, and other leftist states are "too big to fail" and put the rest of the states --- who had nothing to do with the utterly stupid liberal economic policies of those leftist states --- on the hook for those exact liberal economic policies.

I can't wait.

Robert, my friend, I don't think that you'll ever discover our Constitution granting our original government the right to take over an existing private business, since to my knowledge, corporations did not exist when the Constitution was written[Oldefarte, I, too, have been around for a long time. Long Enough to have read the Constitution. I have never found in it anything that says it's ok for a President to fire the head of a private business. Maybe you could tell me where the supreme law of the land it gives him that right or power? Thanks]. The current administration has not technically/legally "taken over" any corporation to date, BUT they have done so, in essence [by politically using OUR/TAXPAYER money to FORCE at least one CEO/Waggoner-GM into resigning by threatening to withhold any future government funds from GM unless he/Waggoner left---which he did]. I don't think there is any reference in our CONSTITUTION [original] and the idea of any corporation at that time in history. There are, however, numerous national/state laws on the books [which of course evolved from our Constitution] that deal with commercial enterprises, which could possibly come into play in a legal situation where say, a stockholder of a corporation or citizen might sue the federal government for illegally interfering with a private company. I'm not specifically knowledgable about same[commercial laws], and possibly one of the bloggers [attorney] to this article could inform us from their expert legal knowledge concerning same. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance regarding your question. Take care.

I have always used underlining as a quick way to review what I thought was important on my first read-through. But this mind-mapping technique makes a lot of sense for reviewing the contents quickly even without having the book physically present.

Even though this seems to be an old post, I just found it looking for mind mapping articles. I'm working on a research work on developing techniques to improve one's reading skills. I already use a similar technique but will be trying out yours. Thanks Stef

Come on - this is just ridiculous republican propaganda, by someone still clearly bitter that their darling Sarah Palin is not sitting in the White House. Obama has inherited a nightmare from the previous nightmare and unfortunately tough decision have had to be made. If you can't see this, than you must clearly need laser eye surgery, as most Americans can now see where the country was heading.

Anyone who doesn't want our country to be turned into a communist state is a racist because Barak Hussein Mahmoud Obama is black? Because that seems to be your point precisely.

I’ll have a Poptropica full written walkthrough very soon, but in the meantime, here are some answers to some of the frequently asked questions about Mythology Island. Having trouble? Post a question in the comments and I’ll try to answer it!
Getting Hercules to Help You Poptropica

Hercules won’t help you until you have all five items from Zeus’ quest. Once you have the five items, bring them to Athena. Zeus will appear and steal them. The big jerk! Once this happens, talk to Athena and she will tell you that Hercules will help you. You’ll need to have the magic mirror from Aphrodite because Hercules doesn’t want to have to walk. He’s so lazy!
Getting the Hydra Scale poptropica

You can see how to do this in the videos, but basically you need to jump up when the Hydra is about to strike. He will rear one of his heads back to attack and his eyes will bulge out. poptropica
When this happens, jump up in the air and then try to land on top of his head. That head will get knocked out. When all five heads get knocked out, the Hydra will be asleep and you can click on him to get one of the scales. poptropica

Sorry to break it to you, but Bush was a conservative in his rhetoric, his actions were those of any big government lover: Big Debt, Big War, Erode Civil Liberties, Medicare D... Also, check out any poll, conservatives make up the majority of the country, its liberals who are the minority.
