The man appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell to
oversee the security and fairness of Pennsylvania elections has
been discovered to be an ally of ACORN. Rendell, a Democrat, is a
leading Obama supporter.
On March 31, 2005, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortés
heaped praise on the controversial left-wing activist group that
is now being investigated for voter fraud in a dozen states,
including Pennsylvania.
Said Cortés, directly addressing ACORN representatives at a
meeting of the Pennsylvania Reform Task Force:
“And thank you kindly on behalf of the Department and on behalf
of the Administration for all of the good work that ACORN, as
well as Project Vote, has conducted through the years,
particularly ACORN. I work very closely with some of your members
on a national level, and appreciate your dedication and
commitment to enfranchising all of the eligible voters.”
Cortés and ACORN are now the subject of a lawsuit filed last week
in Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court by Pennsylvania Republican
State Chairman Robert Gleason. The suit alleges that ACORN has
committed voter fraud in the counties of Philadelphia, Allegheny,
Dauphin (Harrisburg) and Delaware (suburban Philadelphia.) At the
announcement of the filing Gleason said bluntly that “we don’t
believe that we can trust the results of this election.” The
United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
is investigating the fraud allegations against ACORN in
Southeastern Pennsylvania, which include charges involving 40,000
new voter registrations, of which 85,000 are in Philadelphia.
Other investigations have been launched by local district
attorneys in both Central and Western Pennsylvania.
The suit was no sooner announced that Cortés responded by calling
it frivolous and saying that concerns about ACORN were “aimed at
doing nothing other than undermining voters’ confidence just 18
days before the election.” He did not reveal his past statements
praising the controversial group. Gleason said he was “shocked
and amazed” at the response to fraud allegations by both Cortés
and Rendell. In the material Gleason has presented to the public
are photographs of vacant lots listed as home to voters
registered by ACORN.
This latest volley in the superheated presidential race between
Senators John McCain and Barack Obama comes as NBC’s cable outlet
MSNBC and NBC News itself is
revealed by Townhall’s Amanda Carpenter to also have a
relationship with ACORN.
In a real knee-slapper, NBC News describes their project
involving ACORN as “Election Protection.” One can only wonder
what the late Tim Russert, the Washington bureau chief of NBC
News and host of Meet the Press, would say to this
statement put out by NBC: “Our partnership with Election
Protection will play a major role in NBC News’ ‘Making Your Vote
Count’ coverage,” said Phil Alongi, executive producer of NBC
News’ Election Coverage. “Not only will we be able to direct
voters who are experiencing problems with a hotline to call, we
will also have our team of reporters and producers follow-up on
the information Election Protection is gathering.”
Let’s sort this out.
We now know that ACORN has an ally at the very top of the
Pennsylvania election security pyramid in Secretary Cortés
himself. And if you happen to tune in to NBC News for your
election coverage, you will find that the network of Huntley and
Brinkley and Russert and Brokaw and Chancellor has now actively
allied its news coverage with ACORN.
Which gives the following statement quoted in the NBC
press release a special twist:
“On Election Day, election officials will be facing record
turnout with limited resources, and some voters will encounter
problems as a result,” said Jonah Goldman, director of the
National Campaign for Fair Elections at the Lawyers’ Committee
for Civil Rights Under Law and one of the leaders of the Election
Protection”
One of those “election officials” of course is Cortés in
Pennsylvania. So Pennsylvania voters, already uneasy about
ACORN’s now documented fraudulent activities which are currently
under federal investigation in the state, are now going to be
“reported” by NBC News. Which in turn is openly relying on ACORN
and a host of other left-wing organizations to gather its
news.
In fact, the roster of groups NBC News has allied itself with is
a smorgasbord of far left-wing extremist groups. Read the list
here.
As you can see, it includes not only ACORN but People for the
American Way, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Alliance
for Justice and others that have been virulent opponents of
everything from Reagan and Bush Supreme Court nominations to the
war in Iraq. ACORN, of course, has now been revealed as a major
player in the global financial collapse with its role in
re-routing the mortgage industry from a sound financial footing
to one run by ACORN’s political whims.
Interestingly, if you look at this connection provided by
Ms. Carpenter, the ACORN logo is mysteriously missing.
Hmmm.
Ominously, one has to wonder what the Cortés revelation means for
a potential Obama Justice Department. If allegations of voter
fraud in Pennsylvania are being dismissed by the ACORN ally
officially responsible for the security and fairness of
Pennsylvania’s elections, what will happen when allegations of
fraud are brought to an Obama Justice Department run on the same
model as the Rendell administration’s model for the Pennsylvania
Department of State and bureau of elections?
Whatever it is, you won’t be hearing the results from NBC News,
will you?

Hey, we don't want libs thinking this is BS...
Hope it's a typo and not Obamath!
Can't have 85,000 new voter regs in Philly out of a total 40,000 in the state!!!

It's always nice to see Republicans assuming that their mere accusation is as good as a conviction while they make the most amazing excuses for their criminals who have been actually convicted.
Anyway, the ongoing attempt to defame ACORN tells us that the Republicans are afraid and have no clue how to win elections any more because their decision to go with Bush was a very foolish one, even McCain tells us that our current Republican president is incompetent.

Denial is not a river in Egypt. DEFAME ACORN ? No One had to lift a finger to batter that band of criminals. They defamed themselves nicely. Hiring Identity Theft felons from half-way houses to register voters, that was a class move. Only the left wing would come up with that one. Did they actually suppose the clowns that signed the multiple registration forms 12,49,73 times as in Ohio wouldn't sing when confronted by law enforcement ? Can we say idiots ? Obviously it is apparent the left is so desparate to get their radical inexperienced boy into office they oiled the election machine with every form of deceit. Complete with public funding reversal to private, and 832,000 in donations from Obamas campaign originally declared for lighting, and stage decor. OOPS that was an error states Obamas campaign. Dirty from top to bottom.

The million-vote ACORN fraud is not the whole story. Most election officers and supervisors are members of government employee unions, teachers most prominently, and all of the far left. They will admit fraudulent votes and use any excuse to annul Rebublican votes - as they did in the Washington State governor election. The fraud elected Kennedy (Chicago's 150,000 votes by the dead), Johnson as senator in Texas(50,000 dead votes), South Dakota senator (I forget his name, but 1,700 dead Indians from their reservation put him over the top).

This nbc news release should read NBC TWISTED. MARIE get out of that sispool before some one pulls the plug.
Ponzi's meme| 10.24.08 @ 11:28PM
Thats Senator Johnson of South Dakota, he "defeated"- Cheated John Thune. Thune went on (2 yrs later) to beat Tom Daschle. I think the Dakotans (might be) are on to Vote fraud.
hey Free Lunch, can you explain how the Wash. state gov got 138 votes from a district where that was 138 more votes than there were registered voters?
mike| 10.25.08 @ 12:49PM
Wow, the hysterical bleating coming from the right is getting beyond rediculous. Acorn registers thousands of names. People get paid by the number they reg. It just stands to reason that some will cheat to get paid more. What some of you wingnuts are missing here is it's ACORN who is getting cheated, not America. Stop for a moment, take a deep breath... feel better? If ACORN pays for names that can't vote, Mickey Mouse, Richard Nixon...names off of gravestones, then they are the ones gettting burned, not you or me . America only need worry if Mickey Mouse or a walking corps comes in to vote. Then and only then is there voting fraud. Sheeeese people calm down..take the tin foil hats off...it'll be okay...
Diane Smith| 10.25.08 @ 3:41PM
Mike, you are as innocent as a just hatched gosling. A fraudulently registered voter's registration entitles someone to appear at the voting place. He claims to be Robert Johnson of 123 Nowhere Lane and votes. No picture I.D. is required. This is why ACORN and a lot of others are opposed to the idea of picture identification. Have you ever checked the caliber of folks manning voters' precincts? I don't know about most places, but I can tell you ,in my district they are about 3 qts low on the brainpower dipstick and hardly speak English. Anybody who can read upside down could show up, see a blank spot on the registery, say "That's me" And the barely literate, English-as-a-second language precinct worker would accept it and hand them a ballot. You don't get "cream of the crop" folks manning the voting stations at the wage they are paid. In fact, we may have ACORN employees part-timing there.
If you think ACORN is screening out and destroying duplicate registrants, think again. They do it a little when the heat is on. Maybe.
And, what's a walking corps? Of Engineers or Marines?
talgus| 10.25.08 @ 5:55PM
ACORN has 2 objectives: 1) get enough fake registrations in to allow the team to vote multiple times, and 2) bog down the system to get it to fail. Just look at the DOJ with is thumbs up its a**
in the Ohio voter fraud case.
Jim Woodward| 10.26.08 @ 11:50AM
Whoa Diane, cheap shot. Maybe where you live. I worked as an Election Judge in Wicomoco Co., MD in 00,02,04 and 06 and we had a truly competent group of people in the county. Retirees and professionals for the most part and a first class Board of Elections. Wicomico Co. could be a model for how to do it right, and in the Peoples Republic of Maryland no less.
Sam Baker| 10.27.08 @ 12:42PM
I agree with dave, I really hope thet is a typo. 40,000 - 85,000= -45,000 If you can have -45,000 people, then why cant you have -$ and not be in debt.
Ron| 11.21.08 @ 10:15AM
Diane Smith, much of what you say is very reasonable. But one point that you are missing is that organizations like ACORN who register voters are not permitted to do their own screening or to destroy duplicate registrations. They are required by law to turn in every registration card. This prevents them from selecting only registrants of a certain party or demographic. Also, ACORN alerted the authorities to many suspect registrations when they turned them in, before the broohaha made national news. John McCain also sang ACORN's praises as the keynote speaker at a meeting co-sponsored by them. They are not a partisan organization.
Daniel G.| 3.14.09 @ 4:12AM
We really can’t say that this report is genuinely true but there is no harm in doubting especially to those organizations or groups that are being involved in several negative issues. ACORN was not only accused of election fraud but also by underpaying their employees. In contradiction with what they are trying to portray as a noble institution just like the Self-Help Credit Union and the Center for Responsible Lending. They should not take away the chance of other people to have the kind of life they should have. These organizations failed to deliver on in practice their righteous endeavor. Condemning subprime mortgages and payday loans will not make them a better institution for they can’t even execute well their so called goal. Lately, ACORN has come under fire for trying to pay their employees less than even the minimum wage, which barely qualifies as the living wage they are campaigning so hard for.
