Youppi Loses Bet to Jimmy Fallon
by

Montreal Canadiens mascot Youppi lost a bet to Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.

They made a bet prior to the NHL Eastern Conference Final between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers. If the Canadiens had won the playoff then Fallon would have had to deliver tomorrow’s night monologue wearing a Habs jersey. However, the Rangers eliminated the Canadiens in six games. As a result, Youppi had to go through downtown Montreal over the weekend wearing a Rangers jersey and post those photos on Twitter. Youppi looks very, very forlorn. Youppi might be refraining from entering bets with late night talk show hosts in the future.

I have long had a soft spot for Youppi. Before joining the Canadiens, Youppi spent 25 years as the mascot of the Montreal Expos before they left for D.C. I touched Youppi’s hand at the very first big league game I ever attended all the way back in 1981.

As for the Rangers, they find out who their Stanley Cup opponent will be tonight as the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks host the Los Angeles Kings who won the Cup in 2012. The Rangers last won the Stanley Cup 20 years ago.
