What Kind of ‘Tough Decisions’ Do Obama-Kerry Expect From Abbas?
by

Today, President Obama hosted Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House. Obama said, “We’re going to have to take some tough political decisions and risks if we’re able to move it forward.”

Yesterday, Secretary of State John Kerry met with Abbas and a State Department official indicated that Kerry “encouraged him to make the tough decisions that will be necessary in the weeks ahead.”

So what kind of “tough decisions” do Obama and Kerry expect Abbas to make? Clearly it’s not recognizing Israel as a Jewish state. If Kerry now thinks that demand was a mistake, then which Israeli demands aren’t a mistake? That the PA stop inciting hatred and violence against Israel? That the PA drop its demand for the “right of return” for all Palestinian “refugees”? If the Obama Administration expects the PA to make concessions, then it should spell them out.
