Welcome Back, Aroldis Champman
by

Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman struck out the side against the Colorado Rockies this afternoon to earn his first save of the season. His fastball hit 100 MPH.

It marked his first appearance since sustaining multiple fractures in his face after being hit with a line drive off the bat of Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez in a spring training game on March 19th.

Getting hit in the face with a line drive is often a career-ender for pitchers. It’s only one appearance, but it looks like Chapman is picking up right where he left off. I have a feeling Chapman’s return will spark the Reds who are currently six games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
