I am saddened to hear of the passing of Tony Blankley. He died last night at the age of 63 after battling stomach cancer.

The British born Blankley was best known for his time with Ronald Reagan both in Sacramento and in the White House as a speechwriter and policy advisor before spending seven years as a spokesman for Newt Gingrich. In more recent years, Blankley was an editorial page editor for The Washington Times and was a frequent panelist on various cable news outlets.

He managed to write with firmness, clarity and conviction without being rancorous. Not an easy thing to do. You can find a collection of his articles for Townhall.com from 2003 to 2011 here.

Earlier today, Newt Gingrich paid tribute to Blankley and his “deep passion for freedom.”
