Thoughts on Bruins Parade

Today, my roomie Christopher and I went to Copley Square to view the Boston Bruins Victory Parade.

While in attendance, there were two things which caught my attention.

First, I saw that several people went to the trouble of creating replica Stanley Cups. But it was nothing like seeing the genuine article.

Second, there were a number of people wearing Milwaukee Brewers jerseys. The Brewers are in town this weekend to play the Red Sox for an interleague series. So it isn’t surprising to see them. Still, they looked out of place. But I don’t blame them for being there. Given that there hasn’t been a victory parade in Milwaukee since the Bucks won the NBA Title in 1971, this is probably the closest they will ever get to seeing a championship. (No, I’m not convinced the Brewers are championship material despite the fact they currently lead the NL Central.)

All in all, I am glad the parade took place on a Saturday. Most of the other championship parades we’ve had have taken place during the week. Most of them, I haven’t had the time to attend because of work. As much as I enjoyed attending the Red Sox parade in 2007, I had to keep an eye on my watch. Of course, the 2004 Red Sox parade took place on a Saturday. But it was a very rainy day. Not that anyone minded. Still, it was good to have a few carefree hours to attend a parade on a Saturday in nice weather.
